imagining that the dungeon functionally houses GMS in this context... regular people probably descend for religious purposes or for treasure. hornet's just here to kill the god that resides within
in my mind GMS eats the souls of slain adventurers in hopes of inevitably drinking in enough life to wake herself back up
lace and phantom are here.... and i can't think of a good way to exile phantom so they're just here for realsies. yaay. they're artificial souls, functionally. spirits crafted by divine hands. but they're still capable of other things that spirits are capable of. notably, the possession of an adventurers mortality, and the temporary transformations into beasts
half of the reason i made this post was to jot down concepts for the beasts lace and phantom would be capable of turning into...
ghost girl is a very lace-esque transformation so that one she can keep. it would probably have different evolutions than classic ghost girl (maybe she would keep the dark yurei path, but not have the witch route)
i think having a lamb form that inevitably evolves into a minotaur-esque ram would be really fun. and i love giving her lamby motifs so idc she's the lamby now
for phantom i wanted them to have at least one transformation that synergies with lace. where the ghost girl focuses on setting fires, i think phantom would have a kind of. sooty ghost they variant. leaves trails of ash on the ground that can be ignited if lace steps over them
i also think it would be really fun to play with a snake base form that can inevitably evolve into like. a medusa naga type thing. i'm realizing that a lot of these beasts have human tops and animal bottoms but its bc that concept is really good ok. leave me alone.
they also have like. little miniature monsters that are pretty much just a last resort/distraction. not entirely lethal, but useful in a pinch. lace has silkflies that she can summon for this purpose, and phantom has wraiths
anyways. GMS sends lace and phantom to kill adventurers. once they're beaten beyond the consciousness of their spirit, she feeds off of them. she then strips whichever child gained their humanity of their bodies, returning them to their incorporeal form
in my mind, phantom really really wants to steal a body for long enough to leave the dungeon entirely. to run away from mother and never come back... but its tough when lace would be left behind. they haven't really discussed the plan with her in detail (mainly worried that mother would find out), but if it came down to it, phantom would let lace escape first.
lace and phantom- perhaps obviously- worship GMS (even though that should technically mean they have the same beast pool but shh. idc). but hornet, on the other hand, scorns GMS, and thus has an intentionally different beast set for the (slim few) times she finds herself outside of her body
idk what they're gonna be yet i just know that one of them has to be the spider
spider -> scorpion spider queen transformation is hornet kosher idc. she's allowed to have it

idk imagine minotaur lace and hornet beating the shit out of each other and phantom is a ghost in the bg i guess (hornet already slaughtered them they have to regain their strength back) (lace stop fighting hornet in a gay way fight her normal)
