Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
Hyperrealistic simulacrum of a good father

The part of "Jews living in Herzliya" that antizionists ultimately object to, is the "Jews living" part. The location is irrelevant.
Far right arseholes attacking, abusing and intimidating immigrants, refugees, people of colour, Muslims, yelling “get them out,” calling them “savages” and “animals”, allying themselves with extremist racist groups, believing they’re morally righteous for doing so.
Far left arseholes attacking, abusing and intimidating Jews, ostracising them from public life, calling them “baby killers”, allying themselves with extremist antisemitic groups, believing they’re morally righteous for doing so.
All of them thinking they’re so very different from each other. All of them poisoned by hatred and propaganda. Different arseholes, same fucking shit.

this article is from early in this latest stage of the conflict. i like this position still, as it is the opposite in its values to the call to globalize the intifada which i think is happening now. polarization can work for good as well as for bad
Having a Minotaur Boyfriend would be so fucking funny
Like imagine crying on the couch and you hear his thunderous, big body SUV built ass footsteps approach you.
"Baby, what's wrong," he says tenderly as he rubs your shoulder.
You look up to explain how bad your day was with tears in your eyes and you fucking see this:

American Psycho (2000) dir. Mary Harron
“The LEGO Movie was my favorite movie of 2014, but it strikes me that the main character was male, because I feel like in our current culture, he HAD to be. The whole point of Emmett is that he’s the most boring average person in the world. It’s impossible to imagine a female character playing that role, because according to our pop culture, if she’s female she’s already SOMEthing, because she’s not male. The baseline is male. The average person is male. You can see this all over but it’s weirdly prevalent in children’s entertainment. Why are almost all of the muppets dudes, except for Miss Piggy, who’s a parody of femininity? Why do all of the Despicable Me minions, genderless blobs, have boy names? I love the story (which I read on Wikipedia) that when the director of The Brave Little Toaster cast a woman to play the toaster, one of the guys on the crew was so mad he stormed out of the room. Because he thought the toaster was a man. A TOASTER. The character is a toaster. I try to think about that when writing new characters— is there anything inherently gendered about what this character is doing? Or is it a toaster?”
— Bojack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg commenting on how weird gendered defaults in entertainment are, and why we should think twice about them. Excerpted from this longer original post. (via 360degreesasthecrowflies)
The densest people on the internet are the ones who say sci fi and fantasy are getting too political. Why can’t we go back to the good old days of The Twilight Zone, with its various episodes about mob mentality and the danger of mass paranoia that totally weren’t about the Red Scare. Or Star Wars and its genocidal empire of racially homogeneous Aryan men. Or Dune with its religious tribal peoples who live in a desert that contains the galaxy’s most valuable resource and the wars with the foreign colonizers, that was purely from Frank Herbert’s imagination. Can you imagine how much Star Trek would suck if it was packed to the brim with ham-fisted allegories of every societal issue of the 20th century. Not like all this modern ultra-political stuff, like a woman hero.
