You guys are always like "being crushed by 10,000 tons of rock probably feels good as hell" or "being torn to pieces by hunting dogs would low key fix me" and I feel like those things would actually be unpleasant.
How about "Drinking an ice cold strawberry milkshake probably feels good as hell". Do you guys like that one.
lately I've been finding the whole resale culture really dystopian. like when it is adult luxury stuff I think it's fine and in general I think the waste reduction part is great, but when it comes to kids stuff it kind of bums me out.
maybe it's my child-having bias (and FWIW I don't know anyone within my immediate or secondary sphere with kids older than mine, so it's not like I'm gnashing my teeth over someone's hand-me-downs) but like! remember hand-me-downs? my mom used to get things from her friend whose daughters were a little older. when we had little girls living next door to us my mom would give their mom big bags of my sister's stuff. and that's just how it was! nobody, to my knowledge, was trying to individually recoup costs on as many pieces of child wardrobe as possible.
PS: it also feels insane to be at goodwill and see a pair of carter's leggings or a onesie priced at $7. SEVEN FUCKING DOLLARS! for something that is sometimes cheaper than that new!! it's just insane.

ROMEO + JULIET (1996) dir. Baz Luhrmann
I've realized I don't really miss California lately, although I do miss my stuff (especially kitchen stuff) but I do really miss the time before I got pregnant with the baby and started throwing up every day. Back when it was just me and my little buddy, playing in the big playpen and taking long walks and baking with him in his "station" beside me. I love him now, obviously, and the baby, but I miss that little toddler guy. After his naps we would sit in the big bed together, looking out the window, and sometimes I would think about what has only become more and more true: this is so lovely I'll miss it the rest of my life. I'm glad I enjoyed it so much when it was happening. It went by so slowly and so, so fast.

New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle single artwork designed by Peter Saville, 1986
St. Nicholas was a popular monthly children’s magazine, published by Scribner’s between 1873 and 1940, with a brief attempt to resuscitate the publication in 1943. The original editor was Mary Mapes Dodge, author of the long-beloved novel, “Hans Brinker”. Authors included Mark Twain and Louisa May Alcott, while Norman Rockwell found the magazine a receptive outlet for some of his early illustrative work. Here is a smattering of covers over the years
