A Summer Story is a British drama film released in 1988, based on John Galsworthy’s 1916 short story "The Apple Tree". It stars James Wilby, Imogen Stubbs, and Susannah York.
In 1902, a young gentleman visiting a rural area has an intense love affair with a village girl. Eighteen years later, he is passing that way again.
Can we take a moment to talk about this scene?
Because I genuinely think that these ~3 seconds of Maurice and Alec smiling at each other in their last scene together have to be among the very best on-screen chemistries I've ever seen. And I'm not just saying that because I love them and this movie. LOOK AT THEIR EYES. They look so in love it's crazy, especially when you consider that this was one of the first scenes James and Rupert shot together and yet the chemistry is just off the charts. I'm also pretty sure this is the most genuinely happy smile we ever get from Maurice in the entire movie, completely freed from any burden. The moment he realises that Alec is truly staying for him… It‘s insane to me how some people can say that Maurice and Alec never really loved each other when they look at each other like THAT
Cursed alternate universe in which Maurice, Clive and Alec all have mustaches
I like Maurice's moustache and I will defend it.

James Wilby as Sir Richard Morton in Murder In Mind: Echoes. "Sir Richard is a bit of a lech,'' says James. ''He wants this trophy wife and falls in love with Eloise, but when he finds out what she is really up to, he is forced to take drastic action." -James Wilby (2003)
"I've always thought that if you do two jobs with an actor then it's the second one that will confirm a friendship. I did two films with Rupert Graves- we did Maurice together and then, a few years later, we did Handful of Dust.
"We got on terribly well doing Maurice and then we didn't see each other for a while, but after Handful of Dust, it really cemented a great friendship and he's now one of my closest friends." - James Wilby (2003)

James Wilby and Hugh Grant as Maurice Hall and Clive Durham in Maurice. (1987):
MAURICE watches Clive’s hands adjust his leathered gloves. He glances back to their families, just far away enough. He takes CLIVE’s hand and hides it under his blankets. CLIVE is tired and inconvenienced.
CLIVE (calling loud) Mother, Mother, get in.
MAURICE is dismayed. He takes his hand back, his face looking away. He looks at Clive, who looks back at him.
