Hi! Due to my absentmindedness, I've just found out that I didn't take any photo of the bandanas before sending them out 😭 (You will find that ironically, there's no trace of my artworks in my house).

I wanted to ask what do you think of still lifes ? Especially their depiction of flowers ? And also do you like/imagine your art as still lifes or not really ?

I also wanted to ask if the flowers hold any significance in your art pieces or are you trying to focus on techniques more than symbolism ?

Finally your art made me think of "non traditional" bouquets which often take more bold choices on the color and also type of flowers and I think you may really like those like this :

To answer your questions. I think still life paintings of flowers usually reflect a big part of the artist's inner world. They way they choose their subjects, arrange them, they way they choose the lighting, etc, are very personal and unique. This is only my personal thought, but there could be a hint of the desire to preserve, to hold, to control. Flowers in still life painting become instruments, rather than just simply existences.

Out of many subjects, flowers are one of the truest expressions of nature's interpretation of beauty, what nature deems beautiful, a beauty as a mean for attraction, a beauty that signals life.

I usually draw from pictures that I've taken or from the memories of a flower. So my paintings can be called still life but also not. I also tend to choose flowers based on the current season, as a way to record the passage of time.

I don't know about other artists but for me, putting my art out here was a slow process. I always find it difficult to show my creations, but at one point, when I saw the paintings I'd done over the years gathering dust in the corner (folder), I felt guilty, like I was neglecting my children. So I set them free. And when people expressed desire for prints, I started selling prints. I didn't have a specific plan or goal in mind.

My advice would be start today, be consistent, have patient, do research about the market, the audience. Have faith in your creations, keep making what brings you joy and your creations will, in turn, bring joy to others. When it comes to the commercial aspect, be reasonable and respectful, of yourself, your art, and your audience.

Almost all of my paintings is in 1:1 ratio so adapting to phone ratio might mean cutting out a lot of details, which pains me, as a detail-greedy person, to no end. I also need to redraw the frames again, which I'm too lazy to do 🤭

I might paint in different ratios in the future, but for now, I enjoy the 1:1
