As soon as you realize why particles have to take patterns before they lose their patterns to distance and then nothing you realize everything that encompasses enough of your world to make meaning of it must be larger than your world and therefore predicate a boundary on it and an end to meaning and therefore you this isn’t about death it’s about averages and it’s about why I want to live in new york city and why it’s so hard to be happy
If you have evidence of the end of meaning (And you face this constantly by fact of being aware enough to have a sense of the meaning of evidence) Then you have to be happy with just a little. The smallest possible cross section. Existentialism is the claustrophobia of physical space closing in from both sides but why is size a linear concept. It’s not. In the coastline, fractal, thread, morphologies of every fingernail clipping of everyone who ever lived ordered on a graph, on every graph, according to every method of reducing the dimensionality of a measurement, scale is perceptual & semantic. Space isn’t closing in on you. The planets are small because spheres have a lower shoreline development index than a fluvial lake. They are not rich in littoral zones although they may contain lakes that are. Meaning is an act of appraising sensation, not information, into and out of purpose, and its logical operations do not produce exact numbers. They will be re-measured and re-estimated forever. To look at the pattern directly you have to let it cower in your periphery and believe it is something else you keep noticing. Something else you notice every time. In the continued attempt to decohere a definition can elaborate without end. It’s the end you’re afraid of right? But you don’t want to admit it? Thats what this is about? And now you look toward the end that will no longer come to you out of spite and you need it so bad, you get on your knees for it, you try reinventing it, you fail, you’re too scared even of your own knockoff? Of course you are. It’s a brilliant knockoff. More often than not you mistake it for the real thing. You’ve been doing this your whole life. You’re afraid of the certainty of reality and you want not to be afraid. You remain uncertain.

therapist: and what do we say when we feel like this?
me: no live organism can continue to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality

when you're in a betrayal contest and your opponent has an obsession with forgiveness
I think about The Man of the Hole so often. 27 years alone. 27 years with no one to speak to but strangers to wave to. Survived a genocide, a massacre that killed everyone he had ever known and later, an assassination attempt. He still tried to warn researches about the traps he built. He was only about 60 when he died in 2022. The people who tormented him in life later desecrated his grave.
I do think it is important to share the stories of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island and Ishi and the countless other indigenous people who experienced the profound trauma of being the last survivor but it is important to remember that the last Aboriginal families in Australia to be contacted by Europeans were resettled in the 1980s and the Indian government has proposed a plan that will mean total genocide for the Shompen people. The total eradication of indigenous peoples, their cultures, their languages, their ways of life, is not something which occurred in a distant ugly past but an ongoing process.

Taylor Franson-Thiel, from "You Don’t Need Another Poem About My Shame"
As a 19-year-old sophomore at Stanford, Elizabeth Holmes decided to transform diagnostic medicine so she dropped out of college and used her tuition money to start her own company, Theranos. Ten years later, Holmes, pictured here holding a micro-vial, is on the cutting edge of medical technology — her new blood testing method allows hundreds of tests to be run using only a few drops of blood. And, Holmes’ methods are cheaper, faster, more accurate, and less invasive than conventional methods which often require a separate vial of blood for every test. As Holmes told Wired.com earlier this year, “I started this company because I wanted to spend my life changing our health care system. When someone you love gets really sick, most of the time when you find out, it’s too late to be able to do something about it. It’s heartbreaking… We wanted to make actionable health information accessible to people everywhere at the time it matters most. That means two things: being able to detect conditions in time to do something about them and providing access to information that can empower people to improve their lives.”
