& i will be so for real with you all there is NOT enough hype about how good hudson williams is. the way he’s using his face is crazy. his mood visibly changing from easygoing to annoyed to scared to frustrated to hopeful (+ crying) in the fake proposal scene is nuts. you are seeing everything he’s feeling. the totally flat affect when he’s trying to talk to his parents because he can’t read their minds or their faces… the way his voice breaks when he says “i just can’t help it” and the way his eyes land everywhere except for his mom’s face… like oh my god. try to imagine what those scenes would be like in the hands of a less capable actor. the amount of effort and care he puts into the character is so great but just his abilities as an actor are REALLY carrying a lot of the weight. not just in this episode but throughout the series. everything he’s doing is delightful to watch. love him so bad can’t wait to see him EGOT

I love how varied and universally weird the circumstances for making lifelong friendships are. Here's this guy I accidentally messaged once and I could not imagine my life without them now. Here's this girl I was so scared of when I met her, I would kill for her and remind her to rest on the regular. Here's this other guy we have so much in common we used to joke we were the same person in different timelines. It took us years to meet in person and I attended his wedding. There are also people who entered my life in absolutely unremarkable ways but changed it forever for the better. It's wonderful how easy it is to find people to love.

I love Ilya’s “It’s more fun if you’re there,” at Scott Hunter. I love the idea that since joking about being queer is an established and accepted way for straight men to actually assert their status as straight - ha ha, can you imagine if I, the most obviously straight man in the world was queer? Wouldn’t that be hilarious?Isn’t that the most laughable thought ever? - AND because it’s also an accepted way to mock other players, to get a rise out of them, that Ilya from time to time will just outright say something queer, entirely literally, and immediately, without question, people dismiss it as a joke. I love the idea of him being quietly thrilled he can use queerphobes’ own mocking tricks to mock them, and can hide in plain view like this. It’s so funny and very him. It’s not something he could do in Russia, or many other settings, but the hyper-masculine queerphobic NHL that endorses arrogance, posturing, and mockery? He can say whatever he wants.

Thinking about Hudson Williams saying that Shane thinks he’s better at masking how he feels than he actually is and the way that Shane’s queerness shines through under his facade… the way he is actually not very good at playing straight and when people ask him about women he just tries to ignore it and deflect… the way his entire life is built around a lie and it’s not even one he’s very good at holding up but he doesn’t have to be good at it because nobody is even assuming he’s gay because he’s a hockey player how could he be gay. If anyone was paying attention they would figure it out but until rose nobody does. His parents suspect but don’t ask. He doesn’t even have to outright lie he’s just so isolated by the fact that nobody wants to look too close for fear of seeing him.
