the way tumblr is treating taika waititi is so fucking annoying he won't fix the mcu he won't make hollywood gay he's one guy. he didnt even make ofmd. like i absolutely get liking the shit he makes i love it too!! im even gonna subject myself to an mcu movie and watch thor 4 coz i like his style so much!!! but people neeed to stop putting celebs on pedestals like this because sooner or later he WILL fuck up and do something that'll immediately make everyone label him problematic coz he's just some guy!!! like he's a real human being holy shit why do we have to do this with a new man every month.
trying not to think too hard about how gen z/gen alpha casually use leet speak but when millennials used it it was because it was cool and internet age slang, and when gen z and alpha use it its because they need to get past censorship restrictions that would cause their videos on LBGT and civil rights to be algorithmically hidden.
or about how people use terms like "real life game over" and "unalive" to avoid saying death out loud because video streaming services apparently suppress videos with negative language. we are literally living in an era that was theorised by many states of fiction about a high surveillance cyberpunk reality...

what does it say about us as a culture that most of our microwaves have a dedicated popcorn button
i dont know but whatever it says, its magnified by literally every bag of popcorn saying âdonât use the popcorn buttonâ
Funnily enough, thereâs an answer for that.
In brief, the âpopcornâ button was initially introduced by fancy high-end microwaves that used an integrated humidity sensor to tell when your popcorn was done; microwaveable popcorn vents steam as it cooks, so by monitoring the amount of steam in the cooking chamber, you can get pretty close to perfectly popped popcorn every time (though itâs generally only pretty close, since different brands of microwaveable popcorn have different moisture content).
As the feature became popular, manufacturers of cheap microwaves started adding a button labelled âpopcornâ as well, in order to imply that they offer this feature. These âpopcornâ buttons simply run the microwave for a fixed amount of time that the manufacturer figures is close enough to the printed cooking time of most commercial brands.
In practice, of course, the fixed-time âpopcornâ button usually just sets your popcorn on fire. To make matters worse, owing to Americaâs permissive advertising laws, microwave manufacturers are allowed to make all sorts of misleading-but-technically-true statements in their packaging and instruction manuals, rendering it nearly impossible to tell whether a given model of microwave has a real humidity-sensing âpopcornâ button or a fake fixed-time âpopcornâ button before buying it.
In summary: the âpopcornâ button that your microwave popcorn instructs you not to use exists because American microwave manufacturers are using a misleadingly labelled button in order to imply that their product has a feature that it does not in fact have, in a way that can potentially trick people into burning their houses down, for advertising purposes. This is perfectly legal.
So: what does that say about our culture?
See this picture? This comes from a town in Canada where a 24 pack of water bottles is 104 dollars and formula milk for a baby is priced at 55 dollars a pack. Whatâs more, a pack of diapers is 95 dollars and one head of lettuce is 26 dollars. Inuit people are starving in a country known for itâs generosity.
If you donât believe this is true, you can find more images like this here. This is the only grocery store these people have in their small towns, and many people are going hungry & elderly are dying faster.
Youâll send aid to foreign children that are starving, so why wonât you pay a little extra to feed the people in your own country who work hard & still canât afford the prices for healthy food for their families?
Please have a heart and reblog this photo to raise awareness that even in our own countries people are starving, join the movement and show the government that we wonât sit by and watch people starve.Â
If you think this will make your blog ugly youâre wrong. Children in a first world country are getting sick & starving, and nobody is even aware itâs happening. You can let people know by reblogging and showing you care. People I am close to, my friends and future in-laws are going through this.Â
Love how little attention this post gets from my beach blog followers.
Ok I didnât think this could possibly be for real, but I found a news source on the matter. This is insane.
As someone who lives in Canada, I can confirm this as being true :/ things are crazy expensive up North and our government (note Harper) is horrible at helping out with things and has actually faked getting involved before.
governments hate indigenous people, this is absolutely about anti-native racism. donât forget that.
One of the biggest parts of this is that shipping freight is costly to get to Northern communities (Some places get 2 shipments a year for non-food supplies), the second is that in Canada there is a HUGE protest against allowing Inuit people to feed themselves in traditional ways (ie seal/whale hunting). I dont think people realize that the native peopleâs hunting is a literal drop in the bucket as far as the animal populations go, but make a huge difference within their communities where food is scarce and expensive. Canadians arenât ignorant to the anti-native sentiments in the government, and people have taken it upon themselves to send groceries to families in Northern cities. If anyone here is interested in getting involved, Helping Our Northern Neighbors has been operating since 2014 to ship donated goods.Â
You've heard this refrain before -- giving money to homeless people is not the best way to help them because it might be squandered, or spen
âResearchers gave 50 recently homeless people a lump sum of 7,500 Canadian dollars (nearly $5,700). They followed the cash recipientsâ life over 12-18 months and compared their outcomes to that of a control group who didnât receive the payment. The preliminary findings, which will be peer-reviewed next year, show that those who received cash were able to find stable housing faster, on average. By comparison, those who didnât receive cash lagged about 12 months behind in securing more permanent housing.
People who received cash were able to access the food they needed to live faster. Nearly 70% did after one month, and maintained greater food security throughout the year. The recipients spent more on food, clothing and rent, while there was a 39% decrease in spending on goods like alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.â
Itâs almost like people self medicate to survive intense stress like, idk, not having the cash to live anywhere but outdoors. People who are extremely poor do not want to be poor, we WANT to be safe and have autonomy in our lives but capitalism makes that impossible for some people.
And drug/alcohol abuse, even when prioritized over eating and other necessities, isnât some kind of alien mindset, itâs very often a matter of not having the resources to actually be safe and fully meet your actual needs so you have to cope somehow with the suffering that deprivation causes.
This is a perfect example of the kind of important study that shouldnât NEED to be done, but does need to be done so we can once and for all implement policies that actually help people.
i think itâs important that it was a lump sum all at once, instead of little amounts intermittently. If youâre homeless and, say, addicted to alcohol or meth or whatever, and someone gives you $20 a day, for 12 months, what are you gonna do with that? $20 isnât enough to pay for a place to sleep that night. You can get some food, but you canât stock up on anything because you have nowhere to put it. You canât buy a new pair of shoes. You canât pay for medication. You canât really save it up because what are you gonna do, walk around with $5000 worth of twenties in your pocket? until they get lost or stolen and you never got anything out of that money? But you can go and get $20 worth of alcohol and maybe the rest of your day will suck a little less.
But if you get that $5000 all at once and then nothing for the rest of the year, thatâs enough to get an apartment for a month, and your meds, and food, and clothes, and then well hey you can look for a job (and you have a mailing address, wow!).
if youâre in a shit situation getting dribs and drabs of money can keep you alive but it wonât help you really change your circumstances, but a large lump sum can do that.
I have brought this study up to multiple people who despite the research, still cannot break their stereotypical image of people who are homeless.
𼺠support a black lgbt owned bookstore trying to open in the south? Bc I want to go there when they open? Thank u?
Look at them
From the Kickstarter: âToday, Durham is without a Black-owned bookselling storefront and the handful of bookstores in the area do not, at present, offer an expansive cross-genre collection of Black literature. This is the gap that Rofhiwa hopes to fill: (1) creating a space for collective imagining, where children and adults may find and share stories that reflect who they are (2) fostering the convivial atmosphere that is seminal to creating the bookcafĂŠ as a communal space (3) offering a deep collection of works by Black writers that invites readers to explore what it means to be Black here, over there and everywhere where Black people make life.â

Do it for the black lgbts in the south !!! Thank u !!!
7 days to go. If they do not reach this goal, they will receive not a single cent of whats been donated to them. For reference on how time sensitive a situation this is.
I spoke briefly with the owners & asked if Rofhiwa would be okay if the goal isnât hit. The answer was an optimistic no
[id: screenshot of 2 Instagram messages from Rofhiwa. Together, they read âFirstly thank you for your support and belief in us! Thank you for worrying with us :) It is a bit of a tight deadline but we are hoping that our big donors will give in the next week. And hopefully smaller donations will keep coming in. Keep your fingers crossed for us :Dâ. end id]
As of right now, 12am Jan 5, they need $16,091. I gave what I could & im really hoping to get some momentum going with this post again. Please reblog, Iâm so grateful to those of you whoâve continued to boost this & donated if you could to help contribute to this community. Thank u!

year of the ox
whatever [dons my gay apparel]
This is getting on my fucking nerves, so Iâm just going to say it here:
Adults who need high levels of support in daily living are not children.Â
âMental ageâ is a concept rooted in eugenics, and it doesnât actually exist.
No one should be robbed of agency or dignity because of their need for support. Oh, also, while weâre at it (since disability rights activism that doesnât tackle age-related oppression is bullshit), kids deserve to be treated with respect too. Shouldnât be a controversial statement, but it is.
Most people neglect to mention this, but if âbeing treated like a childâ equates to âbeing robbed of agency and dignity,â thereâs something fundamentally wrong with the way we treat children.Â
if youre saying eating healthy is cheap and your starting assumption is that everyone has a kitchen youve already fundamentally misunderstood the reality of poverty.
other assumptions that miss the mark:
everyone has food storage
everyone has a freezer or fridge
everyone has running water
everyone has drinkable water
everyone has electricity
everyone has a viable means of transporting food
everyone has a house
everyone has easy access to a grocery store
or that everyone has cooking tools from pots and pans to a cheese grater.
That everyone has the mental/physical energy/time to cook around long days at a low paying job (or potentially more than one job).

Me: âŚThe hell is it called the âdrawing roomâ for? Was drawing really such a wide-spread hobby, and if so, why do I never see any art equipment in the reconstructions of any of these rooms?
Historian, curator and documentary presenter Dr Lucy Wosley: Actually it was originally called the âwithdrawing roomâ, as in the place one withdrew to, and where only family and important guests were allowed to enter. The name got shortened over time.
Me: Oooooohhhh
wait, so all those scenes where people are invited into the âdrawing roomâ are actually a declaration of intimacy and close friendship or otherwise close ties / importance?
of course the whole bill clinton thing happens like an HOUR after i post this what the fuck
what bill clinton thing?
WHAT BILL CLINTON THING??!?
