Revolting little machine I hope someone guy fawkeses you too.
(Context: was trying to find the text of a version of the Guy Fawkes poem which ends 'are we glad that they stopped him or not?' Was not expecting this thing to run defence for the UK parliament 400 years ago)
Btw, if you ever wanted an indicator of the ideological censorship that now exists, and how pervasive it has become? The poem I was looking for, with its implication that maybe it might not have been a bad thing to blow up parliament way back when, was published in a children's book two decades ago. Without incident. Now I can't even SEARCH for that poem without receiving a telling off for its contents.
for the record im not technially 100% anti-AI, in the sense that its a broad category of tech being lumped under one umbrella term so it feels over-zealous to say i hate all of it all the time forever. but i also think trying to discuss what it actually IS good for is difficult right now when i cant take one step without something trying to convince me to use chatgpt to summarize my life and speed up my hobbies and turn my friends into chatbots and optimize my life into oblivion. i am certain there is nuance to the topic but can we stop cramming the square peg into the round hole before you start trying to sell me on the legitimate benefits of the square peg. please.
Neural Nets have existed for decades and are genuinely useful. It's a form of AI that recognizes patterns, and can do stuff like identify cancer cells, tell whether an egg is fertilized or not, detect fraud, and optimize routes.
Those are Expert Systems, tuned to do exactly one thing. If you (say) ask a medical expert system a question about financial law, it's useless. The autopilot that flies a 787 has no idea how to drive a truck on the freeway. A Coulter Counter is excellent at identifying lymphocytes in a blood sample but can't predict the next card in a blackjack game.
And so on.
The problem with so-called generalized AI (AGI) is that we don't have that yet. It doesn't exist. It MIGHT some day, but AGI has been "10 years away" since the 1980s. The goals keep moving as we learn more about how people and machines process data.
But the current crop of AI techbros have been selling generative Large Language Model AI (LLM) as AGI because generative systems do a good job of faking it. There's no actual thought going on, merely the illusion of thought via predicting the next word in a sentence accurately.
If you let a human toddler listen to 800 hours of YouTube car influencer videos, that toddler might end up sounding like a car influencer. They'd parrot horsepower numbers and 0 to 60 times, mention EV range and MSRP numbers.
But they wouldn't understand any of it.
That's ChatGPT.
And yeah, it's worse than useless because it doesn't even know when it's lying or hallucinating. It just babbles convincingly until you stop it.
But for techbros to make money selling that as "AI"? It's the perfect scam, especially if you don't understand how it works.
I fucking hate it.
There was once this football player who refused to go to the White House under Obama and when asked why he said it wasn't political. It was because he realized that Obama would have invited the other team if they had won the Super Bowl. Let me dig up the actual quote:
"So as far as I'm concerned he would have invited Arizona if they had won."
As far as I'm concerned, they would have invited the other team if they had won. As far as he's concerned. They would have invited Arizona if they had won.
He felt Obama should invite him to the White House regardless just to spend some time with him and it was an insult to not invite him to meet the President even if he lost football and anyway a couple years later he made headlines for throwing away his kid's participation trophies
please read this even if you're not indian. especially if you're not indian.
you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.
first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.
now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:
in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.
and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.
and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.
it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:
⢠infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.
⢠youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.
⢠only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.
⢠manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.
⢠journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.
⢠even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.
and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.
what i'm asking:
if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.
if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.
india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.
we can still save her. but only loudly.
reblog. share. don't scroll past.

Hey. If people aren't aware, Microsoft admitted they know who you and where you are at all times and will give your info to the police.
They have a Global Device Identifier (GDID) Tracker that functions as a fingerprint for your PC that can surpass VPNs, proxy servers and countries. Although it can't survive a clean reinstall of Windows (it can survive updates), because Microsoft forces you to go to the internet and log in into a Microsoft account, they will be able to get to you.
Microsoft kept it secret and it was only found out when the FBI tracked a hacker thanks to the information Microsoft gave them.
You should be paying attention to this, and possibly consider moving away from Windows. If a government, especially the US government, doesn't like you for some reason, this could be seriously concerning.
This article specifically notes:
For journalism, activism, or domestic abuse situations, skip Windows and use Linux routed through Tor instead of a commercial VPN. A GDID doesnât care which VPN you use, only that itâs still the same Windows installation.
GDID is the persistent Windows ID that helped FBI trace a Scattered Spider hacker despite VPNs. Here's how it works and how to limit it.
Other important quotes:
What has researchers uneasy is everything else the case reveals. Costin Raiu, a well-known malware researcher, asked on the Three Buddy Problem podcast how much of this exists on other platforms, and whether it is linked more permanently to hardware. Matthew Hickey, another security researcher, called Windows âsurveillance softwareâ.
Two things back that up:
Thereâs no consent screen. A GDID gets assigned when you sign into a Microsoft Account. Appleâs advertising identifier needs an App Tracking Transparency prompt and a visible reset; Androidâs works the same way. GDID has neither, and a Windows reinstall only gets you a new number Microsoft can still get back to the same account.
Then thereâs activation. Massgrave, the group behind Microsoft Activation Scripts, notes that Windows setup sends hardware info to Microsoft and gets identifiers back, the same tokens later used for Store access and licensing: âItâs impossible to prevent Windows from getting a GDID without breaking activation and UWP app[s].â Anyone who lost a license after swapping a motherboard has already met a smaller version of this.
This was one of my introductions to military history. I was 14 and haven't ever really looked back. Big fan of star forts and Vauban.
Star forts like this were constructed after gunpowder became common in warfare! The elevated position plus the angled walls were designed to make it harder to just blow a hole in the wall with a big cannon, which is what happened to a lot of pre-gunpowder fortifications.
Easily starved when surrounded, soldiers inside eventually revolt from hunger and probable disease when you block their waste outlets, then it's just a waiting game with the occasional skirmish, maybe start fires periodically in blind spots to diminish morale, steer everyone elsewhere and decimiate stores of food and other needs, like our ancestors did this shit on a near regular basis, grenades still exist, traps are simple to set up, like the answer is usually a good combo of these with capable people, and in a slight derailing, like the billionaire bunkers, they'll still need air from the surface and no matter how many redundancies they're still too frugal to put enough in place to make shit invulnerable, nothing is impossible to lay siege to when the numbers are so vastly different between parties
Ok now Iâm curious⌠Which do you prefer:

I have only lived in the city, I prefer the city
I have only lived out of the city, I prefer the city
I have lived in and out of the city, I prefer out of the city

Imagine if we did the âpublic libraries are punkâ thing for other subcultures. Imagine if people made shirts that said âSoup kitchens are grungeâ or âMixed Use Urbanism is Juggaloâ.
saw a twitter post about how a non-binary person was bothered by people sayinâ âthey isâ instead of âthey areâ and itâs definitely a reason why i created this blog and the blacknbculture blog. no matter how pro-black or anti-racism a white nigga will be they will always find some way to criticize âghettoâ, âtrashyâ, or âlazyâ ways of speakinâ and beinâ.
i cannot speak my dialect around white without havinâ to assimilate unless i want people to mock me or just laugh at everything i say, even if iâm actually mad. other times, i just feel like i come off as rude to white people. in english i see examples of my native dialect be used as a âincorrect examplesâ of Real English. the reason i write in my dialect is so i donât lose it beinâ surrounded by so many white people who only tolerate me as long as i throw my culture away. usinâ âisâ instead of âareâ in African American English (AAE) is the most common feature in the dialect iâd argue itâs part of what make it so distinct, along with the accent as well. i will not be fooled by white people bothered by grammar, cause 99% itâs racism they probably donât even know of.
so, i will be sayinâ âthey isâ, actually. and iâll say it proudly.

this trend of shitting on peer-reviewed academic studies in favor of tweeting âwe already knew this was happeningâ is so soul-crushing. not to be an elitist cunt, but we have got to open the schools again. people genuinely seem to have forgotten that their personal lived experience isnât indicative of the larger population, AND IF IT ISâŚâŚ then you need researchers to support these assertions from a relevant data pool instead of a blog post from 2013 đ
