also bg not the focus but best believe if there's a swanky gala Mira is forced to attend due to family ties (IDK no plot here) I will always imagine it being in a penthouse w open glass roof but w gold structural bars/ beams that resemble a gilded cage
IN my head (please read that like Jason derulo sings it) Mira's parents' traits are like eerily familiar to hers but in a negative way (so her dad has this relentless drive or something but for nefarious purposes - not that he would see it that way) and her Mother is excellent at reading people, BUT instead of using that to understand and try to connect w them better she wages psychological warfare lol example below (forgive the horrible sketches i am tired):
(so when mother mira talks w rumi she speaks korean but speaks english to Zoey if the text doesn't make sense)
She is savage.
Kinda wanna see her interact with Celine though...see who wins that (elegant and within the bounds of propriety) battle.
New Sherlock Holmes adaptation idea: Watsondoes a voiceover narration of the story and it frequently contradicts what’s happening onscreen. Sometimes it’s literally just blatant lies. Watson also frequently looks into the camera like he’s on the office. It’s set in the original Victorian era so this should not be possible. He’s the only character who does this.

bitch moment: obviously this is subjective but a lot of modern queer lit (especially YA) has this specific tone that i find really grating. i want to call it "smug" but that's not exactly it. it's more like, that sense that the author is utterly convinced of the correctness of their own worldview and expects everyone else to agree with them on principle

author is scared of me = terrified of ambiguity, uses excruciatingly precise language to avoid being misinterpreted, treats diversity as a box-ticking exercise, bends over backwards to explain itself when Literally No One Asked, all morally grey actions have to be immediately justified and resolved
author wants me dead = protagonist is unfailingly righteous and good, antagonist is irredeemably evil strawman, narrative refuses to make space for opinions/experiences that don't perfectly match up with the author's perspective, lots of Teachable Moments where an ignorant character is kindly shown the error of their ways by a wiser, more enlightened character
#these things are not opposites on a spectrum#I see these mindsets packaged together more often than not#the author wants you dead because they are scared of you
