All I've Ever Wanted (Is You) (Human AU; misunderstanding)
Rated: M, 6/6 chapters, 15,062 words, complete 4/24/2026
They met at Ana and Newtâs pre-wedding party. Aziraphale remembers being absolutely stunned by Crowleyâs good looksâand mortified by his coarse language. That only lasted until they began a hilarious (and frankly unhinged) conversation about the intelligence of dolphins and whales, and something about the kraken, if memory serves. From that moment on, they have been nearly inseparable.
That was five years ago. These days, Aziraphale frequently slips onto a bar stool and keeps Crowley company for a few hours while he works a slow shift at an upscale Mayfair pub, and Crowley spends many a lazy day lounging in Aziraphaleâs bookshop in Soho.
But thereâs nothing more to it than that. Because Aziraphale and Crowley are merely friends. Theyâve never been more than friends. They never will be.
Of course not.

WIP 1:
âHowâd things go this week? And whatâs on for the weekend?â Crowley drops heavily into his office chair, takes off his dark glasses, and kicks his feet up onto his desk. Thursday morning is as good a time as any to get started on the weekend. He takes a long sip of coffee and waits for his manager to brief him.
WIP 2:
As Aziraphale settled in with his morning cup of tea, he watched the dust motes lazily drift down through a shaft of sunlight. The bookshop was quiet except for the ticking of the grandfather clock and the purr of Chuck on his lap. He wondered what Dave was getting up to. Trouble was afoot when that kitten got quiet.
WIP 3:
A few minutes before the group is scheduled to start, a young man with dark, curly hair hurries into the room, a messenger bag slung over his shoulder. He stops by the small groups, shakes hands, then walks straight to Aziraphale.Â
âYouâre new,â he says, his hand extended. âIâm Adam Young. Iâm the facilitator for the grief group.â
Aziraphale shakes his hand. Itâs warm and dry, the young manâs grip firm.
Groaning into the cup of coffee heâs just poured, Crowley pulls himself out of his desk chair and stumbles across the hall to Beaâs office. Their suite has a perfectly good intercom system, but Bea canât be bothered to use it. Their voice carriesâdown the hall, through the building, into the elevators, and out to the street belowâratcheting up the headache Crowleyâs been nursing all morning. But, hey, why use the intercom when they can just shout their demands?Â
âYes, your lordship?â Crowley says, bowing low with a sweep of his arm, even though doing so makes his head pound. âHow may I be of service?âÂ

there are a lot of Extremely Married moments in good omens, but I maintain that the Most Married moment is when crowley says out of nowhere, âducks! theyâre what water slides off.â and aziraphale heaves a deeply put-upon sigh and says, ââŚ.just drive the car.â
a close runner up is when Aziraphale wants to do magic at Warlockâs birthday party and Crowley just goes, âMake you disappearâ, and Aziraphaleâs not put out in the slightest

A little ficaversary story:
LIVING NEXT DOOR TO AZIRAPHALE
For twenty-four years, Crowley has been living next door to Aziraphale. Twenty-four years of shared dinners and second glasses of wine.
Also twenty-four years of a secret so carefully maintained it became part of the architecture of their lives.
Now Aziraphale is leaving for the South Downs, and Crowley is helping pack up the life they've somehow built together â one box at a time.
Chapter One and Two
Today marks my one-year ficaversary. Exactly one year ago, I posted my first longer Good Omens fic - a rather lovely excuse to celebrate with a new little story.
It's tiny, so Iâll be posting it fairly quickly:
- Two chapters today: Crowleyâs point of view
- Two chapters next Tuesday: Aziraphaleâs point of view
- Two chapters the following Friday: the dramatic finale and epilogue
I hope you have fun - happy ficaversary to me and to you! đđđ
"There's no thought crimes and no thought heroisms" is honestly such a good piece of life advice.
You could be having the most fucked up problematic thoughts 24/7 but if you treat people with kindness, the good you do is the only thing that matters. But if you have only the purest thoughts and all the correct beliefs, it doesn't matter one bit if you spend most of your time being an asshole to people.

so my partner and i are both huge good omens fans, but she hasnât read the book yet and i have. and i think one of my favorite things is constantly having to reiterate to her that aziraphale is actually So Much More Of A Bastard in the book than in the TV show.
sheâll be like âaziraphale would never suggest harming another living beingâ and i have to be like oh honey. he suggested killing a little boy to get out of work. and then actually tried to do it and only failed because madame tracy said âum wtf??? no???â while he was possessing her.
and then sheâll be like âok but what about when he revives the dove after the magic show at warlockâs partyâ they changed that for the show. crowley originally revived it after aziraphale accidentally killed it.
and then sheâll be like âaw i love how aziraphale loves books so much he owns a bookshopâ babe people literally think heâs with the mafia because he will resort to anything but physical violence to avoid selling his books. he rents in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in London and never sells anything. the mafia canât even fuck with aziraphale because he makes them inexplicably disappear whenever they come around and we are never actually told where they go or what he does to them.
âoh but he loves humanity so much itâs so sweet how he would do anything to save humanityâ book aziraphale doesnât want to save humanity, book aziraphale wants to keep going on little dates with his boyfriend and reading books that he wonât sell and drinking tea and listening to his records in his little bookshop because Heaven is boring as fuck. He actively works to avert the apocalypse because he would have to actually do his job otherwise. Crowley quite literally only manages to convince him to help him stop the apocalypse because he reminds Aziraphale how fucking bored heâd be without creature comforts. Crowleyâs trump card was literally âhelp me or youâll have to watch The Sound of Music.â and Aziraphale FUCKING AGREES TO IT. To get out of watching The Sound of Music.
Book!Aziraphale is a bastard, and I love him.
(I also love TV!Aziraphale, donât get me wrong, but heâs been debastardized by like 70% and I LOVE BASTARD AZIRAPHALE)

I think part of the sadness and disorientation for me is realizing that a not-insignificant number of my fellow fans were not "in it" for the same reasons I was. This is fine, there is no value judgement here, it is just unexpected. What I loved about Good Omens, what made it a compelling and well-told story for me, was encapsulated in the book and adapted, on the whole, successfully in S1; muddled in S2; and entirely missing from S3.
Again, this is not a value judgement, no one is required to like what I like or dislike what I dislike. It is just a bit odd to me (this is baby's first fandom, after all) and is taking some getting used to.
The other sad bit is, of course, less the outright insults, which are rare and easy to block, but the more frequent, passive-aggressive statements of the "gosh, it's a shame that finale haters are too stupid/literal/negative/uninformed about trauma to see the beauty" ilk. Again, I block because it's my responsibility to curate my own space. It's just a bummer.
