For context: this came out in 2011 in Australia. Same-sex marriage would not be legalized until December 2017.

It was only legalized in 8 US states (the 8th only a few months before), and wouldn’t be legalized nation-wide until 2015.

It was only legal in TEN COUNTRIES in 2011. We wouldn’t hit 20 countries until 2017. (Australia was 23rd)

As of today (April 14, 2026), I believe only 38 countries have fully legalized same-sex marriage. Out of somewhere around 200 countries in the world. That’s only ~19% of countries.

This is still revolutionary.

3x13 "Parting Shot" shows us both Bobbi and Hunter refusing to give in to interrogation, even to save each other. Hunter's life is directly threatened, and Bobbi doesn't say a word.

Hunter, who doesn't even want to be in shield, chooses the mission, over his own life, and Bobbi's life, because he understands the catastrophe that could potentially unfold.

And this is seen as a very brave and good thing. Coulson commends them for it. We see them as heroes. The narratives celebrates them as heroes (and they are).

Yet only a few episodes ago, Fitz gave Hydra all the information they needed to bring back Hive in order to protect Simmons from torture, despite knowing the risks, despite knowing that Hydra was planning on bringing back "Death" itself, and despite knowing the harm it could cause thousands, if not millions, of people.

This is painted as "romantic" and "heroic" of him.

Did the writers forget their own writing? When Coulson tries to give Bobbi and Hunter an out, they refuse stating that they signed up to be "the shield" "to protect those in danger"

Did Fitz not sign up for the same?
