6 years ago I mentioned that I was biracial, I mentioned it ONCE during my whole time on this entire hellsite. My father is black, my grandma moved to England from South Africa with him and his sister when he was young, because she didn’t want them growing up in a place with segregation  (the apartheid in S. Africa lasted until the 90s!)

I mentioned that I had a dad from south Africa, and a mother from England. That’s all I mentioned, and I was BOMBARDED with these messaged. This is the only one I answered, so I have no screenshots of the others. But there were so many. 

In all that time I NEVER mentioned my own skin colour or ethnicity.

wtf was that about, tumblr? It absolutely RUINED my perception of myself. Every time somebody asks about my racial background, I STILL get nervous about saying the wrong thing. When it comes up on forms, I always hesitate and hover over ‘white’ or ‘biracial’ because messages like the one above always bubble to the surface again and I think ‘damn am I stepping where I don’t belong?’ I’ve had POC tell others that I’m ‘ashamed’ to ‘admit I’m not white’ which is just as upsetting as the messages like the above.

To this day I don’t know what to say if people ask what my skin colour is or what my racial background is and it’s all because of when this happened. 

I doubt the people who wrote these messages will ever see this but I don’t really care tbh. I just wanted to vent and try and move past this.

(I do admit however, my thumb and fingertips refuse to be anything other than white ;)

I loved tumblr and I had so many mutuals on here but I always get the impression y’all don’t really want to see my furry art PFFF :’D I think most of my followers here followed me because of Moon Moon,

I do miss the banter though! How are people? Who remains?

And remember, debate is important-as is pushing for change and improving the community, but don’t forget to focus also on the positives, celebration and the fact that every single member of the LGBTQ+ community are one big family that needs to stick together and work together!
