The FDA has upgraded an egg recall issued last month to “Class I,” its highest risk level, as it warns the public that consuming the products could cause “serious adverse health consequences or death.”

The recall of 1,589,577 dozen white-shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs was initially issued by Midwest Poultry Services in late July, which warned they might be contaminated with Salmonella Enteritidis.

According to the company, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6 and July 3 and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20 and August 17. The recalled egg cartons have either the code P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian Dates between 157-184.

I did not bother her. I felt so bad for her, I just gave her all the space and time she needed to feel safe. I had a litter box at the foot of the bed, I never saw her use it, but it needed cleaning each morning. I put her food and water on a tray and quietly slid them under the bed to her. After quite some time, I would feel her get up into the bed with me as I slept and curl up gingerly by my feet. I just pretended to remain asleep.

One weekend I see a big, long haired tortoiseshell in the paper and somehow convince my mum that we should drive the hour to the shelter, that very day, to see her.

Looking back, the shelter staff were probably apprehensive about letting me hold this cat. I was a petite child and this cat was both big and fluffy. She was also a deeply traumatised 3 year old.

I managed to convince them to put her in my arms, though. As soon as she was handed to me, she smacked me in the face, leaving a deep scratch on my temple. I didn’t react, I just kept holding her gently, probably telling her she was pretty.

Much to the surprise of the shelter staff, instead of getting yelled at, we told them we would love to adopt her.

She took a long time to fully adjust. She had had 5 litters of kittens that her previous owners had drowned all of, instead of getting her spayed🙄 She was definitely afraid of getting hit. She was scared of men, luckily my dad is a gentle, patient man who she bonded deeply with, eventually.
