There is one very important thing I need people without major dietary restrictions to understand: the distress caused by allergies, celiac disease, and other food restrictions is largely not about the food.

Do I miss some foods I can't eat anymore without getting sick? Sure, but that's not what really bothers me. What bothers me is being excluded from a huge portion of human social life of which food is a crucial component. What bothers me is the stress and social stigma of trying to figure out what I can safely eat. What bothers me is the amount of extra work and cost that is required of me to identify, obtain, and prepare safe foods. What bothers me is people treating my needs like a nuisance, as though I chose to be like this - as though their brief inconvenience to check an ingredients list is unreasonable, when I deal with this every day of my life forever.

I don't miss the food that much. I miss not having to worry about what I eat. I miss freedom. I miss when trying new foods and new restaurants was fun instead of a minefield. I miss not having to plan my entire life around the need for safe foods.

Food is such a basic human need, and a lot of people don't really need to think about it. When your danger foods can be anywhere and everywhere, suddenly your entire life revolves around avoiding them, and it massively sucks. You get used to it and it's not a big deal most of the time, but then you go to a new restaurant, or your office has a potluck, or you've been invited to a party and suddenly it feels just as miserable and exhausting as it ever has.

#yeah that’s. pretty much it #there’s a weird social aspect to it too because part of the ritual of being offered and accepting smth is kinda. gone.#I would love to show you that I appreciate you by accepting your offerings but holy shit kid you put so much sugar in there #why is the only thing they teach you to cook in culinary inevitably some cookie or cake or breaded chicken #on the flip side tho when first dating V he asked me a few questions and then 👀 got the hang of it rly fast #we still both make mistakes #like broth in those hotpot packets you can make at home is surprisingly powerful in terms of carb. bit of a shocker #sometimes he’ll encourage me to eat more of smth cuz sugar was low and I suspect it’ll shoot up after #and then ofc it does #but the major restrictions and guidelines he worked out by maybe date 3 #but one day 🫠 I want them to cure type 1 so I can just sit down and eat more than a forkful of pasta without worrying #or participate in more than a bite of panini #eat a slice of pizza absolutely overburdened with toppings #have a garlic knot #have a flaky pastry

i want to do a painting of a tiger taking a bath to put in a bathroom (bathroom-themed bathroom) and to this end i made a little maquette out of clay and i suspect this will scope creep into having both a painting and sculpture of a tiger or perhaps only a sculpture of a tiger. if i do both should they be displayed together or separately

Working on cutting out a large piece of wood to do the painting on, which is a constraint that will either be really fun or really annoying. Maybe both

Wood primed and underpainted and sketch transferred mostly by cutting it out in different chunks and tracing around them. Stripes to be determined. Nobody let me work on this again for at least two weeks
