Makes one of those "find an s/o" form posts you see on Instagram but as you skim through the requirements you realize I'm only describing Benny New Vegas.
Cw death under the cut! Sorry I didn't see this sooner! (Also sorry for the ramble, I'm also rambling about how Soleil and Lantha were viewed as they were and how Soleil's death impacted the goddesses, so cw grieving and body horror)
I have to change around some timeline stuff for this to make sense, but she ended up dying due to being caught in the crossfire of a mortal war. The other goddesses were simply born goddesses, and they're worshipped as such, and with both of those in combination, they cannot be killed by anything other than a goddess of equal or greater power. (Anahita, Avani, Nephele, and Shula could all kill each other, as they're equally powerful, but none of them could kill Lantha.) Shula wasn't born a goddess, and was instead simply worshipped as such, so she's not unkillable by mortal means.
Lantha and Shula had fallen in love long before the other four goddesses had entered the picture, long before mortals had recording Lantha being the sole goddess. Despite being worshipped as the moon goddess, that isn't Lantha's role at all. She's the creation goddess, someone who can alter the ether of the universe itself into something tangible, and with Soleil's permission, she made her immortal. Mortals took notice that the goddess they worshipped had a partner. Someone that was always by her side. Viewing Soleil as a goddess in her own right followed naturally.
Like the sun and the moon, they were always together. And so Soleil was worshipped as the sun, and Lantha was worshipped as the moon. And that was what was recorded earliest by mortals. An extremely long time later, but still distant in comparison to the modern day version of this world, Soleil and Lantha adopt four children who seemingly came out of nowhere and were unintentionally tormenting mortals with their affinity for magic. And so they were naturally worshipped as goddesses when they grew up, as they were the children of goddesses.
Anahita, Avani, Nephele, and Shula were never told about Soleil being different, not even once they've grown up, as Lantha and her had never assumed it was really important. It wasn't as though they were consistently in danger.
Lantha ends up shutting herself away from her children in grief. Depictions of the moon are shown to be dimmer, her lanterns shaded and her books closed. Her people don't see her during the festivals they hold in her name anymore. She's grieving, she's miserable, and despite being a creation goddess, she can't make anything that fixes this. She can't bring back the dead, she knows that.
Anahita sees what happened, how lost her mother's worshippers are with the death of their goddess, and she vows to remember her mother by being the best goddess she can be. The seafolk sea her as their mother for a reason, their goddess of life and the queen of the sea. Her and her sisters (minus Avani), occasionally talk about their mom.
Nephele sees the same thing, and she decides to leave her worshippers to their own devices. She doesn't want them to be lost without her, and eventually their religion warps so they're only worshipping the idea of something who happens to share her name. She instead focuses on living, trying to find that mortal spark that her mom must've had at one point. She tries to bring the joys of the mortal world to her sisters as her way of trying to cheer them up, but it doesn't work most times. It doesn't stand in her way though, she's too cheerful for that.
Shula remembers her mother's wisdom, her comfort, and she decides that she wants to try to be like her. The people that worship her may not be as widespread as Anahita's or as religiously devoted as Avani's, but they're her people, and she loves them all the same. She provides guidance to the lost and comfort to the weary, as she's also the goddess of the hearth. She blesses smiths of all trades and it's said that the best smiths have their hands guided by her. She's the only one of her sisters that can get through to Avani, but it takes a long time for Avani to reach out.
Avani (believes she) was impacted the worst by Soleil's death. She couldn't bring herself to leave her side. She's worshipped as the goddess of life, and despite not being biologically related, she has Soleil's stubbornness. So she tried to bring her back, repeatedly, angry at herself for failing and angry at Lantha for not telling any of them, so very upset because it's not fair. When Death shows up, Avani begs them not to take her to the afterlife. They're friends, right? So just let Soleil stay here, and surely, with enough time, Avani can simply get it right. Death falters, and keeps Avani company, but it becomes obvious that it won't work. They apologize, but Avani refuses to leave. She insists on watching then, on seeing her mother's spirit be carried to the afterlife.
The only person who can look into the afterlife without being harmed are the dead and Death, and Avani knows this. Death tries to protest, but they've always faltered to Avani's stubbornness. Regrettably, they do as she demands, and even a goddess can't peer into the afterlife. Her skin, once like day old clay, dried and cracked as though it had been improperly fired. Her eyes were blinded, a permanent haze setting upon them. The flowers she wore as accessories grew and warped, tying her irreparably to nature. Avani was the goddess of the earth, and like her sisters, her domain was merely the shape her powers took. But now, nature itself was like a new limb for her, an extention of her, and she could feel every blade of grass being crushed underfoot, every tree that was felled, everything, agonizing and overwhelming. And part of her knows it's all her fault. The reaper must reap, she knows that, but it doesn't stop her from blaming Death. If they hadn't taken her mother to the afterlife, if they hadn't shown up, this wouldn't have happened.
Avani manages to get to her temple in the largest forest and shuts herself deep inside, making demands of the priests and priestesses that tend to it. And soon, those who live in the forest no longer fell the trees or harvest wood because it angers the nature goddess, and no one other than Death and Avani know what happened that day. Avani refuses to speak to her sisters, because it would be shameful to reveal the monstrous thing she's suffered through. But eventually... she manages to tell Shula. And instead of the beration she believes she deserves, she's only met with compassion and horror at what she's endured.
Sorry for rambling so much hehe đđ
I need to draw her again at some point. Her dress shifts colors to match what the sky looks like.

if someone lets fiction affect them to the point they think bad things in fiction are okay in real life because itâs portrayed as such in fiction, then chances are thatâwith or without the fiction they consumeâtheyâre already troubled and they need help. but their inability to separate fiction from reality is not the fault of the creators of said fiction.
artists and writers are not their audiencesâ parents or babysitters. itâs not our job or responsibility to hold our audiencesâ hands and teach them the differences between fiction and reality. itâs not our job or responsibility to censor ourselves just because someone somewhere doesnât like what we create when we never force anybody to consume the things we create to begin with.
I feel like some people need to realize that the world does not revolve around them. there will always be the things that they dislike, and thereâs nothing they can do about that. so they can either ignore the existence of said things like most sane and mature adults do, or they can make themselves miserable and turn themselves into bullies because of it.
Like as an example of one of the wlw ships I have, the two main goddesses of the pantheon that's worshipped in my main universe are married and in love! Their names are Lantha (blue, lying down), and Soleil (yellow, seated).
(Oh also like. If anyone wants to ship their ocs with mine I don't mind, not even if they have a canon ship already, it'd be fun to do alternate universe shipping đđ)
More stuff under the cut, cw for death!
Prior to the death of the sun goddess Soleil, it was considered bad luck to worship one without the other, as they're considered inseparable. When Soleil passes, offerings left for Lantha are supposed to be incomplete, to show that she's no longer whole now that her wife is gone. Past this point, she's often depicted as a widow, in mourning clothes, and the lantern she holds in most of her depictions is shaded to show that the light she once held so dear has dimmed.
These are both older drawings, I should draw them again at some point.
