1. Unless you’ve been working for decades, your resume needs to be ONE PAGE. It’s unprofessional and comes across as sloppy.

2. Everyone uses AI and I totally get it- this is probably the 10th job you’ve applied to today! But you still need to edit what AI wrote, otherwise it will read like shit and come out sooo formulaic. If you’re going to use AI, use it as a starting point.

3. If you are still in school, do not apply to jobs with start dates before you graduate. It’s unprofessional and it wastes everyone’s time. If you aren’t sure about the start date, or just want to see if you might be able to apply anyways, please send an email about it or highlight it in your resume/cover letter.

4. Don’t use a resume template. Just don’t. Keep it simple and black and white. Don’t go crazy with complicated formatting.

5. When you send an email to submit your application, write a professional email. That’s my first impression of you. And for the love of god make sure your name and photo on your email account are professional and appropriate.

6. If you haven’t heard from us in a while, it can never hurt to shoot us an email. Chances are we will update you and give you a clearer timeline.

7. Practice your interview skills. Run through potential questions, have notes of things you want to mention, and make sure you have questions prepared to ask the interviewer. Research the role!
