like how every single autistic person seems to have some version of what I call the impermeable membrane which is like this sense of a veil or film or sheet of glass between you and the world. Like you can describe it to someone and they’ll be like oh yeah my impermeable membrane/sheet of glass. like people will talk about how autistics talk and move but I think a lot of autistic people have a shared visual language as well. or how autistic people have different relationships to gender the way queer people do. That gender is performed which takes agency and skill and creative choice. Even the concept that a lot of autistic people have interests that don’t match their aesthetic or aren’t limited to one subculture creates a unique type of cultural dissonance that would be a notable feature of any other artistic culture or movement. Like autism not just being something that acts upon you (as it’s described by everyone else) but something that’s expressed through you with agency and skill

I think one of the main things I want people to take away from my Elliot Page post is that too many people online will see a character that haunts the narrative and thinks that makes them a well-rounded, complex character without thinking why the Dead Wife trope is specifically called that, why female characters usually take on that role, and why Elliot Page being given that role is not a sign of Nolan respecting his male identity more than his pre-transition identity. People on this website will decry misogyny without even noticing the misogyny right in front of them, because in their minds it doesn’t exist when it’s happening to a trans man. Nolan literally gave Elliot Page one of the most classically female roles in cinema history and everyone said “that’s fine” because the role happened to be a man. A young man more importantly, when Elliot Page is a grown ass 39 year old, but no one has ever treated him like an adult in his fucking life so I don’t see why that would change now.

If you only selectively decide to notice when misogyny is happening based on the identity of the person being affected by it, your feminism will always be surface level.

the thing you need to understand is that mario is not a young skinny guy. mario is a kindly old uncle to me. and he's fat, and thats fine. like. he's like an uncle who would babysit you as a kid and he never yells at you and would make you the best plate of spaghetti you've ever had, and when he leaves you can't wait to see him again. he loves going on adventures and he loves his brother and he loves the mushroom kingdom. and like he's a silent character in the RPGs but (to me) in the sense that he's just a quiet, humble guy who prefers to listen and when you're talking you can tell that he's listening and he cares. if you got interrupted in mid-sentence by someone else, mario would ask you to carry on where you left off when there was a chance. if you were walking in a group and you had to stop to tie your shoe, and everyone else went on without you, mario would wait for you patiently. i dont mind if you ship him and peach but to me he doesnt rescue her because of romantic love, he's just a good guy who wants to help out. this is my truth. mario is not Crisp Rat. mario is a nice older man and i stand by this. i love you mario mario.
