I sometimes wonder about American Halloween...
It seems to have always been a uniquely American thing -- the way we celebrate it, in America, I mean -- doesn't seem to have parallels in other countries. Even going back to the mid-1800s (when it seems to have started).
And it's ebbed and flowed even in my own lifetime. When I was a kid, it was little more than an excuse for an in-class party with cupcakes in elementary school (the under-12 ages), and trick-or-treating after dinner. Cutting a pair of eye holes out of a sheet and throwing it over your head was a perfectly acceptable costume.
Now, it's on a par with America's over-the-top Christmas (A neighbor across the cul-de-sac from me has a giant jack-o-lantern light setup on their roof). And I can't remember the turning point of when it became so big.
And I wonder what the trigger was. Could it have been (as with so much else in this country) 9/11?
Not that I mind. I like the spoopy, and the whimsy. But I do wonder.
Reply from @cesium-sheep:
I know for some halloween people the ramping up of enthusiasm and the expanding timeframe is in a direct response to others doing the same with christmas, which may have attracted businesses to capitalize on it.
First, I love "halloween" as an adjective for people.
Second, that is one of the most ironic things ever.
Third, I also suspect that (especially in the queer community), it's a push-back against the Christian Right in America insisting there's a "war on Christmas." And if you keep calling something a war, you're going to get volunteers for the army of the opposition.

Sharks and owls are cats, as well.
Thank you for this insight, you’re right!

If you’re a real human person still using the default tumblr avatar, consider changing it.
why should you change it?
When you guys pop up in our notifications, most seasoned tumblr users will suspect you’re a bot and block on sight.
why do we block immediately?
tumblr has a history of bots trying to infiltrate and establish a connection to a valid, existing blog in order to populate google searches. Simply liking or reblogging a post, not just adding a scam link to it, establishes this connection. Tumblr users don’t want this to happen, especially if it’s a scammy p*rn bot. So, we often block on sight.
So now I have to reblog stuff AND change my pfp?
Well, of course that’s up to you! I just want to explain why you may have been already blocked by an artist/blogger you may have discovered recently, and how you can avoid it in the future.
Reblogging does help creators more than likes because your reblogs will show up on the dash of those that may follow you. Plus, reblogging puts that post on your own blog, and in case the original gets deleted or edited by the OP, it’ll be on your blog like that–forever (or until you delete your blog). Nice.
Here are some free icons created by catalyststuff on freepik. Highly recommend their art for a simple replacement!

Gritty’s gotten real weird, and I kind of love it.
the worst fictional deaths are actually the ones you see coming, where there is enough foreshadowing that you have time to hope, against all odds, that the character will survive, even as you realise that there’s no way out this time, they’re not going to make it, this was always how it was going to end

A friend of mine from the Walker community told me about an image editing app called ibispaint x. For a mobile software, it's quite impressive. Reminds me of earlier iterations of Photoshop. I've made dozens of memes and edits with it and have been experimenting with it's features. This was my first attempt at digital art, and I'm very pleased with the results.
is 28°c/84°f too hot or too cold for you?
Depends on the humidity level. It's warm but pleasant in dry air but fucking oppressive in high humidity.

…ask a stupid question, I guess
wait look i found the real answer:
“This is from a Norwegian television show called “Ikke Gjør Dette Hjemme” (Don’t Try This At Home). It’s basically Mythbusters with a sprinkle of Jackass on top. Every season is filmed at abandoned homes scheduled for demolition, where the two hosts seek to answer the burning questions most people have.”
…but what question led to THIS?
The question seems to be “what happens if you mixed elephant toothpaste, gasoline, and fire together in a staircase”, which, I don’t know why you would ask that very specific question but maybe it’s a burning question in Norway.
huh. That’s a hell of a thing.
