if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
I hate learning about instances of "oh yeah we know how to do that, we just don't".
I took a year of architecture classes and this very thing pissed me of SO FUCKING MUCH.
The program was in this old converted elementary school built in like 1900. The modified rooms with blocked windows got obnoxiously stuffy but the unmodified rooms were always comfortable. Then I switched schools and took one class in the newest building on campus and got so fed up with how unbearably hot and stuffy the classroom was I walked out in the middle of lecture and dropped out of the class.
The teacher had asked the AC to be turned off in the room because it was "too loud" and she didn't like the air blowing on her. Meanwhile the room had super tall windows that couldn't be opened. So she expected us to just suffer.
I had a job in the weirdest office configuration I've ever seen. The office was only about 15 feet from window to wall but stretched the whole length of the building that took up an entire city block. And those windows were floor to ceiling but each 4-foot wide frame was rotated so it faced EAST. So in the mornings we absolutely ROASTED. Except in the winter, where the massive window to space ratio meant we froze. The only window coverings were designed to prevent glare, not stop heat and they refused to change them. They also refused to adjust heat or AC for our office specifically, because it was connected to the rest of the floor and calibrated for much larger/deeper offices. AND THEY SHUT IT OFF COMPLETELY AT 5PM. My department worked until 8pm. So zero air flow at all.
So not only do they don't do that anymore, they take designs that were originally built correctly and intentionally make them NOT work. The windows designed to intentionally catch as much morning sun as possible are perfect for when you have a huge, open office floor that stretches back half a city block. The heat diffuses through the space. And when it's cold, less heat is lost overall because most of it is retained in the broader space. But when you cut that down to fifteen fucking feet you turn the shallow office into a den of temperature misery and cut off the rest of the office from light and passive temperature control.

Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)

i hope i think of this video in the last moments before i die
Ye knowe eek, that in forme of speche is chaunge With-inne a thousand yeer, and wordes tho That hadden prys, now wonder nyce and straunge Us thinketh hem; and yet they spake hem so, And spedde as wel in love as men now do.

You know the form of language, too, can change. Within a thousand years, even the words that were most precious then, seem strange and foolish to us; yet they spoke them so and did no worse in love than we now do.

I’m glad that OP:
1) Figured this out.
2) Shared so others can learn from their mistake.
Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
It's rude.
