I love helping everyone rediscover the fact that the opening passage of My Immortal is a parody of the opening passage of The Vampire Lestat and not just a generic exaggeration of the typical fanfic Mary Sue introduction. One of the many delightful goth kid Easter eggs the author planted for the audience.
I am the vampire Lestat. Iβm immortal. More or less. The light of the sun, the sustained heat of an intense fireβthese things might destroy me. But then again, they might not.
Iβm six feet tall, which was fairly impressive in the 1780s when I was a young mortal man. Itβs not bad now. I have thick blond hair, not quite shoulder length, and rather curly, which appears white under fluorescent light. My eyes are gray, but they absorb the colors blue or violet easily from surfaces around them. And I have a fairly short narrow nose, and a mouth that is well shaped but just a little too big for my face. It can look very mean, or extremely generous, my mouth. It always looks sensual. But emotions and attitudes are always reflected in my entire expression. I have a continuously animated face.
My vampire nature reveals itself in extremely white and highly reflective skin that has to be powdered down for cameras of any kind.
And if Iβm starved for blood I look like a perfect horrorβskin shrunken, veins like ropes over the contours of my bones. But I donβt let that happen now. And the only consistent indication that I am not human is my fingernails. Itβs the same with all vampires. Our fingernails look like glass. And some people notice that when they donβt notice anything else.
Right now I am what America calls a Rock Superstar. My first album has sold 4 million copies. Iβm going to San Francisco for the first spot on a nationwide concert tour that will take my band from coast to coast. MTV, the rock music cable channel, has been playing my video clips night and day for two weeks. Theyβre also being shown in England on βTop of the Popsβ and on the Continent, probably in some parts of Asia, and in Japan. Video cassettes of the whole series of clips are selling worldwide.
I am also the author of an autobiography which was published last week.
trying to explain why i like horror to people who donβt: ok so you know how itβs fun to be deeply disturbed and unsettled

February 9, 2000 - The London Lesbian Avengers stopped the no. 15 bus in London's Piccadilly Circus, and painted it pink. This was done to demand the repeal of homophobic Section 28, and to protest the involvement of homophobic millionaire Brian Souter in a Scottish campaign against the repeal. Souter was also the owner of privatised bus company Stagecoach, operating route 15. Section 28 was finally repealed in England and Wales in 2003. [video]
It is kind of funny how all of the civil disobedience by previous civil rights movements just gets memory-holed so liberals and the press can wag their fingers are the present ones for not doing things "the right way"
"Militant" really is a word that needs to go on a top shelf
damn.
did stan have beef? or maybe he just loved a good punchline
If the lettering is by S. Rosen then he wrote that like he used his hands and pen to write that he was 100% on board especially with that last bit
so many people have inspired me to be nothing like them

Even in a post-capitalist, post-consumerist world, you still need to produce goods, as a result of this, you need factories because it is more effective to have a few people making a lot of clothes in a factory than every woman being forced to sit down and spin wool all day.
The issue with factories is poor wages, unsafe working conditions and environmental impact, all of which can be fixed through things like regulatory bodies and unions, the issue is not the fact that goods are no longer all made at home
I don't know; I kind of think that our culture is based around systematic denial of human limitations. I mean, there's the eight-hour work day (which is about 4 hours longer than most people are consistently able to remain productive); buffing your qualifications on job applications (which everyone needs to do to some extent, because everyone else is doing it); the expectation of multitasking, even though it's not really possible; academics are running around with impostor syndrome, ultimately because there's only so many books that an individual is capable of reading, while a bunch of liars and grifters pretend that they're experts at *everything* and are held up as thought leaders. Billionaires are held up as if they're just incredibly hard workers, photoshopped movie stars held up as if they're just incredibly beautiful. We feel guilty for not being something that never has and can never exist.
