Carry on my wayward sonâŚ
âchuffed doesnt mean what you think it meansâ
it means exactly what i think it means its just some stupid word that literally has two definitions that mean the opposite thing
what the hell
This makes me really chuffed
This post is quite egregious
Well Iâm nonplussed by this whole post.
goddamnit.
all of you go to hell
And you wonder why i am boggled at times
These are called contronyms! A word that is its own opposite.
Why the fuck do these exist
One theory is that the sarcastic use of the word became exceedingly prevalent and because another dictionary definition.Â
Are you telling me that we were such sarcastic shits it literally changed our language.

I now know firsthand that going to a car dealership isâŚan experience.
I went going exactly what car I wanted and I imagine that if you donât know that much itâll be easier for a dealership to screw you over when you get there by feeding you misinformation about a car, manipulating you into buying a more expensive model, and etc.
I had already done all my research online so I knew what I wanted. Down to the color. (Green is my favorite color!)
So boyfriend and I went (I followed Tumblrâs advice about bringing a man lol). And I test drove the car and loved it just like I knew I would. And THEN the real dealership experience began.
The bottomline is that I knew my credit score and so I knew what kind of interest rate (APR) I should expect. I also knew the manufacturer price of the car (MSRP) and I knew how much they were selling for on average in my area ($3k less than MSRP).
So I knew what I was going to pay and I had already decided on that in my head.
So dealer #1 (a white guyâthis is relevant to mention lol) brings back the first set of numbers. He cushions it with making small talk and flattering me on starting my PhD in August. He also chats up boyfriend.
The numbers were bad. I could tell looking at it. Although they didnât say the APR, I knew that my monthly rate shouldnât be that high based on the number of months Iâd be paying it. Also they only gave me $2k off MSRP.
I noted that the sticker price was too high because I can go to another dealer and get it cheaper and they knocked off another $1k.
And then I asked him what the APR was. He was very evasive and kept telling me to look at the monthly payments because thatâs what âreally matters.â No, what really matters is what Iâm paying for the car overall which is the sticker price + state fees (unavoidable) + interest rate.
Dealer #1 finally told me the APR and it was 3x the rate I knew I was eligible for. I told him thatâs not gonna work. He turned aggressive and said that Iâm a first time buyer and I canât expect better and that Iâm being unrealistic to expect a lower rate and etc etc.
So I said that my bank quoted me a rate half that much and Iâll just go through them and buy later (at a different dealer). Because I want the car but thereâs 2 other places I can go to get it in my area.
Then all of a sudden dealer #1 could get me a better APR. His next offer was 2x what I wanted to pay. I said nah that good enough.
Then they brought out dealer #2, who was a Black guy. He didnât sit down and instantly start talking about the price. He said a bunch of small talk and said some stuff about being Black lol. Tryna be chummy chummy and connect with us on a racial level.
Then he tried to push the same numbers as dealer #1. I said I know Iâm young and I donât have a math background but youâre charging me way too much for this car and Iâm not going to buy it at that price. Period. I said: get the APR down and Iâll buy the car. He kept telling me it wasnât possible and I said okayâŚI wonât buy it.
But then he was like waitâŚlemme run the numbers. And ta da! He came back with the right APR. Also zero down. And payments lower than my target.
This whole process took 5 hours.
Moral of the story:
- know as much as you can before going to a dealership so you can focus on the numbers - know your credit score so you know what your APR should be - get approved through an independent bank for a loan so you have leverage to negotiate with a better rate from the dealer - donât focus on monthly payments. Times that by the amount of months so you know what youâre REALLY paying - threaten to walk because stuff magically happens at dealerships when you do lol

REPORTERS YELL INDISTINCTLY
I still think Moana deserved an Oscar for this part
To me, the moral of Moana is that only women can help other women heal from male violence.Â
The movie starts with the idea that the male god who wronged Te Fiti must be the one to heal her. This seems to make a certain sort of intuitive sense in that I think we all believe that if you do something wrong you should try to make it right. But how does he try to right it? Through more violence. Of course that failed.Â
It was only when another woman, Moana, saw past the âdemon of earth and fireâ that the traumatized Te Fiti had become (what a good metaphor for trauma, right?) and met her with love instead of violence that she was able to heal. Note that they do the forehead press before Moana restores the heart, while Te Fiti is still Te KÄ. Moana doesnât wait for her beautiful island goddess to appear in all her green splendor before greeting and treating her as someone deserving of love.
Moana is only able to restore the heart because Te KÄ reveals her vulnerability and allows Moana to touch her there. Maui and his male violence could only ever have resulted in more ruin.
The reason most millennials donât make a scene when an establishment doesnât treat them right is because we function more on positive reinforcement than negative reinforcement. For Boomers, they can make a scene because they know negative reinforcement gets them what they want; they want to PUNISH these establishments or workers, but Millennial purchasing patterns are very different.
Growing up in the computer age, weâve become masterful at filtering junk information, and that includes advertising. It doesnât matter how much a politician or restaurant or whatever memes, weâll find them funny, but weâre still not going to shop there or give them our money of we dislike them. The way brands become successful with Millennials is actually just word of mouth.
So when an establishment treats us poorly, we donât make a scene. We simply never go back and donât tell our friends about it. Conversely, places that treat us well we immediately go tell others about.
The simplest ways to get Millennials to support your business is to give them good economic value for what you sell (Boomers can think weâre irresponsible, but weâre actually quite thrifty), you have to treat us with dignity, but ALSO, you have to treat your WORKERS with dignity. Unlike Boomers who get off on laughing at someone working at McDonaldâs, weâve all had to work shitty, underpaying jobs and we donât like when we go to an establishment and see workers mistreated and poorly paid, because WEâVE BEEN THERE, and we donât want to contribute to that gross abuse of the working class.
These rich CEOs can complain that Millennials have âno brand loyaltyâ or that weâre âkilling XYZ industry,â but the truth is that selling to us consistently requires ethical business practices that most of these companies are unwilling to partake in.
Wow I have a degree in economics and studied this stuff for years and years and read up on it all the time and this still impressed me. This was such an enjoyable read and all TRUE. Fuck
