all of a song of ice and fire (started thinking in meanspirited misogynist medievalish prose)
the patternist series (i'm glad to be informed about science fiction canon but specifically the third one is very grim and gory)
one of t. kingfisher's horror novels read in the dark outdoors...
high points of past backpacking reading:
the lord of the rings for the first time (lots of walking in it)
random copies of whatever found in the glamping destination (unrecommendable; past treats have included the dark tower & civilwarland in bad decline)
the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (you could really see how annoyed douglas adams was at having to keep writing them)
rereading attachments by rainbow rowell again
successful vacation reads this year: the vorkosigan saga, less & less is lost by andrew sean greer, milkman by anna burns
