Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!
If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.
Reblog to save for later. Your WIP will thank you.

new uterine lining just dropped
That has to be the most humiliating way to describe one of Earth's most terrifyingly effective predators.
Picture of her from the USA Today
Ohhhhh she is one of natureβs most successful predators known for taking down animals EASILY ten times her size and could take me out like a Taco Bell burrito and all I wanna do is smootch her lil bitty faaaaace jjuigfhdtgdgvtuhfhftbyjghfdyk
What the hell dude my kitten is 7.4 pounds and she can't take down a catnip fish. What is this tiny little fluffball with the Lisa Frank eyes and the button nose going to do to me, hide under my car and cut my tendons?? Does she make SAW traps???
You're fucking with me right now, that's a Golden Book illustration. There's two little mice and a rabbit in a dress in that den and they're playing cards and having chamomile tea. Where is the murder
REVISION:
Oh fuck. Oh fcuk I made an error in judgment. Those are the eyes of a spring-loaded murder loaf. That is bloodlust. Oh fuck how am I gonna get out of my car
An update on the original story: she did get a mate, and they had a kitten in April 2026 which has been named Maverick!
And I deserve an award for NOT kidnapping any of them on recent trips to the zoo. Even though they would have totally fit in my bag and niblings offered to distract people.

PSA for anyone in Florida who likes animals and can reasonably access nearby beaches: Florida Audubon and the Florida Shorebird Alliance are looking for volunteers to sign up for timeslots as shorebird stewards! As a shorebird steward, you can take shifts monitoring the nesting areas of shorebirds like terns and plovers to make sure that random beachgoers don't disturb the nests (these areas are generally roped off) or accidentally harm the chicks.
So you would get to hang out on a beach for a couple hours and see some of these guys and also help keep them safe! (And also get something volunteering and wildlife-related to put on a resume if you need/want that)
(Least Terns, photo by Dann DeBlois)
Shifts are whatever you can sign up for, so you don't need to have the same time available every week (or even take a slot every week) and Audubon provides training, so there's no prior experience needed!
You can sign up here for more info if you're interested!
Pls reblog if you can, since they're really in need of volunteers atm

What if little tundras looked like small furballs?...
happy 20 year anniversary of Neil banging out the tunes!
though every rat is special, it's a wonderful and unusual thing for their accomplishments to be remembered and cherished by so many people so many years later. we're all so fortunate to know about the rat who banged out the tunes!
thank you to all the people who sent me reference photos of their beloved rats for this piece!!! credits under the cut!
