walkin my normal dog
Youโre just not ready. At no point in this video when he says the next thing are you ready.
Morning Glory
I feel like with the new ~fandom drama~ or whatever going around, I should re-introduce my favorite theory of fandom, which I call the 1% Theory.
Basically, the 1% Theory dictates that in every fandom, on average, 1% of the fans will be a pure, unsalvageable tire fire. Weโre talking the people who do physical harm over their fandom, who start riots, cannot be talked down. The sort of things public news stories are made of. Weโre not talking necessarily bad fans here- weโre talking people who take this thing so seriously they are willing to start a goddamn fist fight over nothing. The worst of the worst.
The reason I bring this up is because the 1% Theory ties into an important visual of fandom knowledge- that bigger fandoms are always perceived asย โworseโ, and at a certain point, a fandom always gets big enough toย โgo badโ. Let me explain.
Say you have a small fandom, like 500 people- the 1% Theory says that out of those 500, only 5 of them will be absolute nutjobs. This is incredibly manageable- itโs five people. The fandom and world at large can easily shut them out, block them, ignore their ramblings. The fandom is aย โnice placeโ.
Now say you have a medium sized fandom- say 100,000 people. Suddenly, the 1% Theory ups your level of calamity to a whopping 1000 people. Thatโs a lot. Thatโs a lot for anyone to manage. It is, by nature of fandom, impossible toย โmanageโ because no one owns fan spaces. People start to get nervous. Thereโs still so much good, but oof, 1000 people.
Now say you have a truly massive fandom- I use Homestuck here because I know the figures. At itโs peak, Homestuck had approximately FIVE MILLION active fans around the globe.
By the 1% Theory, thatโs 50,000 people. Fifty THOUSAND starting riots, blackmailing creators, contributing to the worst of the worst of things.
Thereโs a couple of important points to take away here, in my opinion.
1) The 1% will always be the loudest, because people are always looking for new drama to follow.
2) Ultimately, it is 1%. It is only 1%. I canโt promise the other 99% are perfect, loving angels, but theย โterrible fandomโ is still only 1% complete utter garbage.
3) No fandom should ever be judged by their 1%. Big fandoms always look worse, small fandoms always look better. Itโs not a good metric.
So remember, if youโre ever feeling disheartened by your fandomโs activity- itโs just 1%, people. Do your part not to be a part of it.

every person can feel freddieโs presence in their souls when they sing MAMAAAAAA UUHHHH, I DONT WANNA DIE, I SOMETIMES I WISH IโVE NEVER BEEN BORN AT ALL with all the air in their lungs iโm not joking
itโs fucking crazy to think about the amount of people who have sung bohemian rhapsody? like itโs such a unifying song, by nature of the fact that so many people know it. it holds so many good memories for me and other people. itโs a song you scream in the car with your friends while you drive around your boring hometown, itโs a song you drunkenly sing with your arm around your best friend, or a song you sing along to with strangers when itโs on in public. itโs bittersweet to think about freddieโs legacy carrying on like that through his masterpiece. freddie carries on because heโs a part of so many peopleโs good memories and bohemian rhapsody is a huge part of that.
Reblog if you have sung bohemian rhapsody with your friends
every time i see this post iโm reminded of the video of 65,000 people singing bohemian rhapsody in near-perfect harmony
like, what other song can make that claim?
Some of the highlights of that video include:
The crowd cheering after the first stanza when they realize what theyโre all doing
So many people audibly โdoing the guitar partsโโฆ like ya do
The sheer number of voices joining the rediculous falsetto (thanks, Roger)
How they all start jumping at the ramp-up โso you think you can stomp meโ
Hands up, hundreds, thousands deep for the final โoooooโs and the last line to close the song
Henri Guillaume Schlesinger - "The Five Senses: Hearing" (1865)
Okay, I just gotta add to this (because some of you haven't seen the video):
It's correct that the grandpa and grandson were only taking pictures and not provoking the bison in any way.
It is NOT correct that they were hundreds of feet away; they were standing on the other side of the campsite road, which is MUCH MUCH MUCH TOO CLOSE for safety! And I am not victim-blaming in any way here, especially because maybe they honestly didn't know how fast bison can move.
But a PSA for the rest of you: if you are taking a picture of bison with your phone, and you can clearly identify the animal as a bison on your phone screen without having to squint or zoom in, YOU ARE TOO CLOSE!
Be like the "I ain't messing with you" guy and be smart. Get into your vehicle (big, metal, designed to protect you in case of impact), drive a safe(r) distance away, and *then* you can take some pictures -- while remaining in your car with the engine running.
Bison can run up to 30 mph. Let's say you're standing 300 feet away. (That's the length of an American football field minus the end zones.) A bison can travel that distance in just under NINE SECONDS!
I told my little nephew that I'd wave at his airplane when it flew over my house today, and he very calmly and politely explained that it wouldn't be possible to see me due to the limitations of human vision. I said he just had to squint real hard, and he took a deep breath and went into the toddler version of "see, what you're not understandingโ"

Frog Paints a Water Lily Pond ๐ชท๐จ๐ธ

Ok, I adore the Frogs to begin with, but the sheer finesse and dedication of this one boggles my mind.
me: this is cute and precious
my brain: 45 years ago this person could've made a public access television show that ran for half a decade on the strength of this concept with the right framing device and it would've been paid for with federal arts grants and maybe even national syndication rights. now they're begging for a single minute of engagement on tiktok in the hopes that maybe someday the abstract metrics of digital media platforms will translate into a tangible career
me: yeah me: cute frog though
my brain: it is a cute frog
ok but give me one good reason why you wouldnโt date Kermit the frog besides that he is a puppet and a frog
โmiss piggy would make it look like an accidentโ
This keeps going past on my dash and I canโt let it go any longer. Itโs time to see the record straight.
Miss Piggy doesnโt have a subtle bone in her floppy felt body. There is no possible way she could ever make it look like an accident.
Miss Piggy would make you into an example.
Brother Gregor never spoke and often spooked the neophytes with his appearance, but he was a gentle soul and a phenomenal cook and knew more ways to prepare a fish than the abbot knew hymns
this is the funniest thing Iโve seen in weeks
The โThunkโ will always kill me.
