Fantastic article!! The guys looking for it were fish researchers who saw it one time, knew instantly it was an undescribed species, and then tried for nearly 20 years to find and document it!

It's a type of ghost pipefish, related to seahorses, and it floats around coral reefs looking like a piece of algae and hunting unsuspecting prey

They are, of course, named after Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street!

Later on it the project, they got citizen science involved, and people across the Pacific started reporting sightings of snuffy fish from all over!

Hooray for science and hooray for S. snuffleupagus !

this beautiful cat has been visiting my parents' house recently and her coloring is so cool? is there a name for this type of coat? she's also got a real wide head so idk if that points to her bein a specific fancy breed but it feels relevant 😂

she is a VERY beautiful domestic shorthair! and her colouration is called 'tortie point'. it's a combination of tortoiseshell and siamese type pointing!

junk food is always better than no food

I’ve met people who will actually argue against this (and I suggest just blocking anyone who does) but if your choice is between going hungry and getting fast food or snack food….PLEASE JUST FEED YOURSELF. No food is actually bad enough that it’s better to skip eating entirely. Malnutrition is more dangerous, more immediately, and more long-term than any consequences of eating a damn twinkie or a cheeseburger.

At the peak of my disordered eating, I had a nutritionist who was like “milk and cookies is a good snack because fats+sugars+proteins, but more importantly, it’s food that you’ll eat.”

On the bad days where I don’t want to eat cuz food is repulsive, the first thing that doesn’t sound completely disgusting is the thing I’ll eat no matter how healthy or junky it is for THIS EXACT REASON. You can always work out or eat better later, but you can’t do anything to get there if you pass out or worse due to not eating at all.
