not even two years after the 2024 racist riots and attempted pogroms, we are back to more racist riots and attempted pogroms.
a mosque in scotland had to be put into lockdown. they are going door-to-door with hit lists and addresses in northern ireland, setting houses alight. they firebombed an imam's house in manchester. people of colour are being targeted and attacked by racist mobs in the street in broad daylight.
and instead of widespread condemnation or wall-to-wall coverage, the UK media and political establishment is filling air time talking about the "legitimate concerns" people have about "illegal migrants"

deathly curious how good the average tumblr user is at distinguishing dinosaur skulls from non dinosaur skulls

me: im disabled and have limits
the smartest most intelligent guy in the world with the most hugest dick ever like so big, like the biggest dick ever, man and also soooo intelligent and thoughtful and just so so intelligent: have you tried pushing yourself?
from my own experience and also from what i hear from others, the issue seems to stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of how i know my limits. i know because i have discovered and tested them. i push them sometimes, carefully. and occasionally i get ok results or at least nothing bad happens. but sometimes something does happen, so i MUST respect my limits.
but when i talk about disability to abled people, they assume its just a bad attitude. like ive defaulted to a "i cant" attitude. and that stems from a fundamental mistrust of disabled people, and the cultural grift of acting like bad things can only exist in the mind. yes i know this is old news. anyways.
i've seen people say that the only minority that you can become is disabled. and i focus a lot on disability here, but that's just not true? like, migration is the number one way to make a person who was previously part of a majority become part of a minority. you can also change religion from one that's a local majority to one that is locally quite rare
and that's because "minority" isn't an innate status that's immutable, it's a descriptive term that attempts to make inferences about your relationship with the world and society around you. when we talk about minorities, oppression, structural ableism, etc. it's not a commentary on the nature of things, it's an observation about how society and people and countries and culture works. and if you don't understand that then you won't understand how to liberate people from oppression

the bad thing about having unhealthy habits due to mental illness, is when you DO do something healthy style you can't brag about about it because then people will then know you've been doing it yucky style all along. Like you can't brag you changed your sheets or brushed your teeth because then ppl will be like oh did you not brush your teeth regularly before? Thats yucky disgusting! So you just gotta keep it to yourself. And be proud alone, I suppose.
[Image IDs: all three are screenshots of responses to the article "A white doctor based in Colorado has teamed up with a conservative legal group to sue the online directory, "Find A Black Doctor," by Black Enterprise.
Image 1: response by Doll Face (@ Smoke_nd_pearlz) "In 2012 i was diagnosed with a deadly blood disorder known as TTP. I was in the hospital for a month. A white nurse almost killed me because she thought i was drug seeking. I kept telling her my central line in my groin was hurting& she wouldn't give me any morphine just Tylenol.
I went septic later on that night because of the central line. I went into SVT and had to go to cardiac ICU for a week. I was 18. My TTP flared up again in 2016 and i went to the ER. I told the (white) doctor that i had TTP and that i needed to be admitted. He had my records right in front of him. I was just there 4 years earlier, the same hospital diagnosed me.
He told me that i didn't have TTP...i had ITP. He sent me home with steroids and pain meds. I cried and cried and sat at home all weekend until i could get to my hematologist. I called them and they had me come in immediately. Got labs drawn...my hemoglobin and platelets were VERY low. They did a direct admit: I had to get 14 bags of platelets and 3 bags of blood. My hematologist and his NP told me if i would've waited any longer i would've died.
More recently in 2022 i went to a freestanding ED because i thought i had the flu. I was in pain, my blood pressure was elevated, i had a fever. I told the black NP that i have TTP and asked them to do a cbc and ADAMTS13 level if they could. I got pain meds, waited for the (white) doc to come and see me. He told me ny labs were "fine" and that i just had a stomach virus. I didn't believe that so i asked him what my platelet count was. He told me 30k (normal platelet count in non chemo patients are 150k-400k) i almost lost my shit on him.
He went back and further with me for 10 minutes about how i wasn't having a TTP flare up and i told him to call the fucking hospital that I'm usually treated at and find me a bed. He begrudgingly did it. He came back not even 10 minutes later and said that the hospital i usually go to was full (it was around Christmas time) but after the on call hematologist at the level 1 trauma center downtown saw my blood work they wanted me to come in IMMEDIATELY. Hematologist told me if i would've waited any longer i would've been dead before Christmas.
Every time that I've almost died it was either at the hands of a white nurse or doctor. They don't take our pain or complaints seriously! They think we are drug addicts. I literally became a nurse because of this. We need black doctors. That lawsuit is just a bunch of fucking racists who are mad. Fuck them."
Image 2: response by Emmanuel Felton (@ emmanuelfelton), "A peer-reviewed study found Black patients matched with Black doctors were 27% less likely to die in the hospital. A separate study found Black residents live longer in counties with more Black primary care physicians. "Find A Black Doctor" exists because the disparities are real"
Image 3: response by Patrick (@ PatrickJnmarie), "If white doctors took the complaints of black people, especially black women more serious they wouldn't have to worry about people finding doctors that look like them and who they're more comfortable with" /end IDs]

PUT MY HANDS TOGETHER
AND ASK FOR YOU BACK JUST ONCE
MY DREAMS THAT I PRAYED FOR
i'm generally pro drug freedom but it does really bother me that kratom is so widely sold all over the place now while at the same time flying under the radar so nobody really warns you about quite how bad it is or how much it can fuck you up and there aren't significant enough warnings on the packaging about how addictive it is. by the time i ended up in the hospital i was in such intensely bad withdrawal they said it rivaled fentanyl and that's what they'd have guessed i was on if they didn't know. i was in the emergency room for days. i was diagnosed with incredibly severe opioid use disorder and given a pretty aggressive dose of buprenorphine that i'm still on 10 months later like its Bad. it turns out kratom isn't just "like an opioid" it actually triggers your brain the same exact way and exhausts the same receptors and you WILL give yourself OUD if you aren't really fucking careful with it. don't start taking it as an opioid alternative, i promise it's not a good alternative. by the end of my addiction i was spending hundreds of dollars (that i didn't have! that could've been rent!) a WEEK on it, and i hadn't been high in months. i almost died. it's just not worth it. if you're gonna do it please please be safe and watch for the signs.
helpful video for people who are unfamiliar with kratom and kratom addiction!
Can't watch the video yet because i'm at work, but i'll pass it along- mostly, though, i rblogged to thank you :o). I'm happy to report my recovery is going very well!!!! I'm ten months clean and i don't ever wanna look back. The urge to relapse is gone, and i'm actually currently participating in a research study about the relationship between addiction and chronic pain, as well as the potential benefits of treating chronic pain with buprenorphine, the main drug used for Opioid Use Disorder recovery, since it is also a painkiller! My addiction was very painful and destructive to my life, but i'm incredibly grateful that at least my experiences can help other people who end up in this situation for the same reason as me- self-treating chronic pain. The relationship between chronic pain and addiction is severely under-studied and i'm really hopeful that this will help a lot of people, especially because, after having been on it for ten months, i can firmly say Buprenorphine is a life saving drug that deserves more recognition and usage.
Thank you so much for your kind words <3
