The UK is banning people under 16 from sver social media sites, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. While I certainly agree that the modern internet causes a lot of health and development problems in young children, this ban is not about protection, it is about control.
The internet represents one of the few ways young people can escape the totalizing power their parents have over them. That these apps have been crafted to control their attention does not mean children should be banned from them, it means they should actually be regulated. If the internet is like "junk food" in their analogy, then the government needs to make the food safe to eat, not ban children from eating them.
Of course, British Prime Minister Kid Starver doesn't really care about protecting kids. His policy on Gaza is evidence enough for that. The real point of the law is to provide the state with the means necessary to control the internet and monitor citizens' activity on it. Children are the targets not because they are the only group which the internet is negatively affecting, but because they are the softest target.
My egg cracked because of a YouTube video. I was still a minor at the time, but it was instrumental in helping me realize that, and was instrumental in saving my life as a result. My love of history, of strategy games, of science and politics, all can be directly traced back to or was facilitated by YouTube. In many ways it was a better parent to us than our actual parents were, something which speaks both to the postive impact it has had on our life, and to the ways the nuclear family failed us.
I would not be here if the US had implemented the ban the UK is planning to. I would be dead. If the UK actually wanted to protect children, that might matter to them.
the north of ireland has the second highest rate of femicide in all of europe. it was dubbed one of the most unsafe places to be a woman in western europe. 30 women and girls in the north have been victims of femicide since november 2020. none of the people who set belfast on fire last night have ever gotten violent about that or made threats against the perpetrators. they don't care that the family of the victim of the attack this week (stephen ogilvy) have begged for there to be calm and no riots. they don't care that the brother of natalie mcnally called them out as toxic. they're just taking any opportunity they can to be brazenly racist out in the open. they aren't acting out of ignorance, a lack of education, or empathy for victims; they're simply racist. they are adults making a choice to intimidate, destroy, and target marginalised people. they are endangering black and brown families, setting their homes on fire, and destroying buses and public facilities to terrorise communities. black and brown families with young children are seeking refuge in their white neighbours' houses because they're so terrified. what's happening in belfast is a pogrom by the same people who burn effigies of irish people every july. they don't give a shit about victims, they only want an excuse to surveil and threaten black and brown people, who had nothing to do with the horrific incident, and tar them all with the same brush and claim that they're the dangerous ones. call it what it is: RACISM.
everyone eat more vegetables NOW!!! and mention the last vegetable you ate in the tags so we're all on the buddy system. I'll start: bok choy
"I just wanna focus on transmasc issues!"
Then. Do that?
And Stop;
• comparing everything to trans-misogyny when you don't even get the concept - you just want an equivalent to stop feeling obligated to care about it
• getting upset when transfeminism is largely from transfems that made literature about their experiences and transfems who still speak about it
• thinking a transfem talking about trans-misogyny is a personal attack on you
• insisting every structural issue unique to transfems is actually something "we all" face
• On the flip also insisting that transfems just wouldn't understand your connection to femaleness/womanhood and the oppression there - you face UNIQUE things that we do not
• Framing all your conversations around "transfems dont want us to acknowledge we experience oppression!"
• Framing conversations around "sex based oppression" and "male socialization" to prove your points
• Getting upset transfems have their own culture and insisting you NEED your "own version"
• Getting upset when transfems are taken care of and are having their voices listened to and insisting it should be about YOU instead
• Getting upset transfems talk about THEIR issues and not yours
I can go on... You're not called trans-misogynistic because you wanna discuss your oppression (crypto-TERF take btw), it's because you are obsessed with framing everything as you in opposition to transfeminized people and our conversations, our community, our activism, our culture...
Whenever transmasculine people actually create things for themselves instead of being upset transfeminized people didn't create anything for them, you know how transfeminist spaces react? HAPPY. With PRAISE. We discuss it, suggest it to each other, hype it up.. We care, too. The reason you don't recieve the same is because you are doing something that needs to be criticized (comes with the activist space btw - cant handle it dont speak i guess). And the fact you refuse to listen to that and wish to utilize and perpetuate trans-misogyny to deflect from your (now-willful) ignorance is an issue.
It's why you don't see any progress and you are only capable of posting about discourse and the same 5 points and why nobody engages with you how you want - because you functionally went into an activist space, decided to learn nothing, be harmful to others, and then expect praise for it. Nobody will engage with half-baked "if you don't affirm my oppression you're saying I'm not valid!" because we have bigger conversations to actually discuss. So maybe be ACTUALLY caring what you claim to and listen to the actual words other people tell you and you'd get farther... idk..
Also, stop looking at transphobic oppression thst transfems also face (often to a larger extent too) from the vantage point of "transmasc issues" instead of just trans issues. In doing so, you are erasing transfeminine oppression in favour of your own, and centering yourself over us. If you want to talk about how transphobia interfaces with your experiences and your identity? Fine, just don't assume that your experience is one that is "afab" exclusive.

I wanted to draw today but didn't know what. I looked at the dino list and it said Rainbow Lorikeet and then I said heck yeah!
2026 dinosaur prompt list
incredibly soggy about this thing

this is what I mean about how right now in the united states (won't speak for elsewhere but feel free to lmk in the notes if you'd like) a lot of us trans adults who are able to access transition care can only do so at the direct expense of trans minors. this clinic would not have opened if they held the line and offered equal access to healthcare to trans minors.
"Martin announced the direct-care clinic, calling it “one of the first times a public health department has ever taken that step.” But when Cabán pushed back, pointing out that trans youth are the ones most under attack right now—noting that there are “almost no providers” left for youth the entire city—Martin indicated the clinic would not serve youth, citing the need to “strike a balance” between providing care and avoiding “clawbacks from the federal government.” This morning, EITM can directly confirm that the age cutoff is 19—matching the Trump administration’s executive order threshold, not the standard legal age of adulthood in New York."
a lot of the structural transphobia we are experiencing is hitting minors even worse. their care gets banned first. if you want a preview of what access to healthcare will look like for us trans adults in 2 years, look at what access looks like for legal minors right now.
please have the compassion to show them solidarity now. do for them what you hope a cis person will do for us. like at the very least, talk about it.
As summer is approaching, I’d like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I don’t care if they’re big, I don’t care if they’re noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You can’t police people’s bodies.
This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
when you look at a psychiatric diagnosis and you see that it has a 3:1 diagnostic rate of women to men, it's more likely to be diagnosed in trans people than cisgender people, and it's most prevalent in hispanic people out of any ethnic group. you really do have to consider who benefits from a label that amounts to "Biologically and Pathologically Hysterical". yknow.
it’s not a “stigmatised” disorder. it’s a disorder that was designed to stigmatise, to shame, and to oppress. acting as though the diagnosis is a stigmatised one is missing the part where this diagnosis is in fact meeting the exact purpose it was designed to fulfil
OP's tags from both the original post and the reblog were too good to hide.
that's really exactly it.
as someone who could very easily qualify for a diagnosis of bpd or cptsd, and even very often resonates with both, everything described in bpd is just a demonization of the same patterns of behaviour described by cptsd. it is just describing you as evil for struggling with being hurt so much, and in doing so, takes the focus away from the person hurting and puts it onto how it inconveniences everyone else.
we really need to be critical of how these labels come to be, because they are deliberately created, and they are created by people with biases. they are so often just a tool of oppression, another extension of a discriminatory machine.
I hope it isn't derailing, but I think this is also really illustrated with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. "narcissist" was a word for an asshole before it was a word for a disorder. rather than describing how someone might struggle to relate to others or be open to true connection, and centering the person who needs to heal, they instead called everyone who struggles with that an irredeemable dick and dressed it up in medical expertise so you wouldn't think to question it. frankly I think it's silly to call for treating "narcissist" like some sacred medical term instead of looking at how fucked up it is that they called a disorder that???
it was ages ago, but there was a post on here talking about just how many "disorders" and diagnoses boil down to "shitty bitch disease". and well, once you see it, you never stop seeing it. anti-social personality disorder? shitty bitch disease. npd, shitty bitch disease. obstinate defiance disorder (come the fuck on) well that's shitty bitch disease. bpd is maybe the most classic example of this. you don't need to listen to her, she has shitty bitch disease. pay no mind to the fact that this label somehow only makes it onto the most marginalized. don't worry about that, because you don't need to listen to those people anyway. they don't have reasons or pain or bad days or feelings or any of that pesky stuff that real people have to explain their actions. no no, we haven't abused them, not at all. haven't you heard? they were broken from the start, and I can prove it. see? they have shitty bitch disease.
[ID 1: OP's original tags reading: #dead horse etc #but I've been reading a lot about bpd today and. lol. #have you seen the prevalence rates for bpd diagnosis in trans women. it won't surprise you. #there's actually a lot of research about what makes psychs choose bpd over cptsd (& other comorbidities). and like. #it's straight-up bullshit /.End ID]
[ID 2: OP's reblog tags reading: #bpd is not stigmatised bpd itself is stigma #we do not need to de-stigmatise bpd we need to abolish it. lol /.End ID]

not even two years after the 2024 racist riots and attempted pogroms, we are back to more racist riots and attempted pogroms.
a mosque in scotland had to be put into lockdown. they are going door-to-door with hit lists and addresses in northern ireland, setting houses alight. they firebombed an imam's house in manchester. people of colour are being targeted and attacked by racist mobs in the street in broad daylight.
and instead of widespread condemnation or wall-to-wall coverage, the UK media and political establishment is filling air time talking about the "legitimate concerns" people have about "illegal migrants"

me: im disabled and have limits
the smartest most intelligent guy in the world with the most hugest dick ever like so big, like the biggest dick ever, man and also soooo intelligent and thoughtful and just so so intelligent: have you tried pushing yourself?
from my own experience and also from what i hear from others, the issue seems to stem from a fundamental misunderstanding of how i know my limits. i know because i have discovered and tested them. i push them sometimes, carefully. and occasionally i get ok results or at least nothing bad happens. but sometimes something does happen, so i MUST respect my limits.
but when i talk about disability to abled people, they assume its just a bad attitude. like ive defaulted to a "i cant" attitude. and that stems from a fundamental mistrust of disabled people, and the cultural grift of acting like bad things can only exist in the mind. yes i know this is old news. anyways.
i've seen people say that the only minority that you can become is disabled. and i focus a lot on disability here, but that's just not true? like, migration is the number one way to make a person who was previously part of a majority become part of a minority. you can also change religion from one that's a local majority to one that is locally quite rare
and that's because "minority" isn't an innate status that's immutable, it's a descriptive term that attempts to make inferences about your relationship with the world and society around you. when we talk about minorities, oppression, structural ableism, etc. it's not a commentary on the nature of things, it's an observation about how society and people and countries and culture works. and if you don't understand that then you won't understand how to liberate people from oppression
