correct
What is the actual argument for why E33 shouldn't count as Indie? What definition of Indie is being used there.
I'm not Zoethiah, Bilagras, or Demily, but it's probably budget. (Or team size, but the two scale together for pretty obvious reasons.)
Clair Obscuir has 416 people in its credits, and its budget was "under $10 million". Not much compared to a titan like the newest Call of Duty (8,365 in the credits, budget ~$700 million), but it still feels big for an "indie" game.
Compare Deltarune, one of the biggest recent games that I feel confident called "definitely indie". As of chapter 3+4, it has 73 people in its credits (including seven thanks), and AFAICT no budget information has been released, its budget is probably in the high five-digit or low six-digit range.
The gap between Deltarune and CO:E33 is (very roughly) an order of magnitude, just like the gap between CO:E33 and CoD:BO7. And the difference in budget/labor is evident; CO:E33 doesn't have quite the level of polish or photorealism as the most CPU-melting AAA games, but it comes damn close!
There's no clear line between "indie" and "not indie," but CO:E33 seems like it's over that line.
