Welcome to the second primer in my series of extremely specific primers. This post hopes to illustrates just how wild it was that Jamie spent the bulk of his recovery time still in California. We all thought he'd go home to recover (like any other injured 20 year old) but no! He hung out for an entire season in California with his favorite roommate, Trevor. Here's a non-comprehensive list, complete with links & photos, of what he got up too.
The scope of this primer is extremely narrow, but I think it serves as a good planning resource. You can find the first edition of my highly specific primers series here, it outlines Jamie and Trevor’s history as roommates.
October 2022
October 28, 2023 - Jamie exited a game against Vegas (at T-Mobile Arena, Vegas) during the second period (link). The update came after the game that he tore the labrum in his left shoulder, and would miss 4-6 months. He had surgery to fix the problem. He did not play another game that season, meaning he only played 8 games during the 2022-23 season.
Head Coach Eakins on Jamie’s injury (link): “For our team, that is a massive blow. That kid is a big part of our team. Especially our back end. His last three or four games had really started to turn it up a notch. No. 1, it’s devastating for our team and that’s where we’re going to have to have other people step up and take those extra minutes. For Jamie, individually, this is going to be a young man we’re going to have to keep a really close eye on. He’s a hockey nerd. He loves to play. He loves to compete. He thinks about the game every day and now to have to go through this process of not only getting things fixed but then going through the rehab, the re-strengthening and then getting ready to play again. That can be mentally exhausting sometimes.”
On the injury (link): he took a clean hit against the boards, Eakins said “He’s a really strong kid,” Eakins said of Drysdale. “For that to happen on a nothing play is mindboggling. He can take 1,000 of those in a row and that wouldn’t happen.”

November 2022
November 6th - Jamie, in a sling, took a photo with a young fan during the Ducks 3-5 loss to the Panthers at Honda Center.

“Devastating. And on such a nothing hit too. He’s such a tough kid that he wasn’t even really rattled by it. Driving to the rink the next day, we weren’t sure where it was gonna go. He told everybody that he was playing so getting the diagnosis that the labrum was pretty much torn off, we couldn’t believe that he was thinking that. Kid’s definitely a warrior and it’s obviously tough to see one of your best buddies going through that.”
“I gotta carry all the waters up from downstairs. Anything that has to do with carrying or upper body, I gotta take the load of that.”
Some cleaning or laundry? “Nonono—none of that. Or at least, he hasn’t asked me to do that yet. Honestly we’re still kinda fresh into that injury, so we’ll see.”
November 24th- Jamie, still in his sling, volunteering at the Ducks Thanksgiving event at Honda Center (link , link). He’s participating in Movember with the team.
December 2022
December 6th- spotted with Trevor, Mason, and a young fan.
December 10th- Jamie visits children in the hospital with the Ducks. Still no sling.
December 13th- Ducks prank video is released; Jamie has a starring role (link)
December 27th- Ducks post video of Trevor and Jamie hanging out with Ethan, 21st Duck. Video says they hosted Ethan “today,” so Jamie is likely back in California (link)
December 31st- One of Jamie’s home friends includes Jamie in an Instagram post, likely indicating he went home for the holidays. Exact dates he went home are unknown.
January 2023

January 12th- Ducks at Disney Day. Jamie sits with Ethan, the 21st Duck, on the float and participates in fan meet and greets. Trevor is sick and not at the event.

Welcome to the post that answers “how exactly did Trevor and Jamie become the roommates with sentimental artwork hanging on their walls and a rooftop perfect for sunsets that we know and love?” This dates back to their time as Gulls, goes through their (forced) separation period, and why it didn’t last. A note on scope: this primarily focuses on TZJD as roommates, and is in no way an exhaustive list of all notable moments. This is likely the first of a series of primers.
Brief context: Trevor Zegras (9th overall in 2019 draft) and Jamie Drysdale (6th overall in 2020 draft) are known for speed running the enemies to lovers trope and catapulting themselves into one of the most functional, co-dependent living situations you’ll ever see. They competed against each other at the 2021 World Junior Competition where Trevor and Team USA won the Gold medal in a shocking 2-0 defeat of a dominant team Canada. Trevor’s most iconic moment of the tournament is his pregame interview where he states “I honestly don’t think [Canada has] been tested with a real team yet" (link)
2021 WJC was played in a bubble, due to COVID, and after the tournament ended all of the top Southern California prospects were put on a private plane to join their NHL teams (link). Once they arrived in Anaheim, Jamie self-reportedly did not want to talk to Trevor but Trevor made them break bread at a Chick-fil-a (link).
2021 Season: Hotel Living
After WJC, Trevor and Jamie lived in a long-term residence hotel in Irvine. Both of them play for the San Diego Gulls at the start of the abbreviated 2021 season. The Gulls played the 2021 season out of Great Park Ice & FivePoint Arena. They both bounce between the AHL and the NHL for the remainder of the shortened 2021 season. They live together the entire time.
Notable moments
Living in the hotel together - Jamie, Trevor, and two other prospects (Tracey and Perreault) lived together since training camp
The teenagers have formed a close bond, according to Perreault. Drysdale has stood out as the best cook in the household, Perreault reported with a chuckle (link).
Trevor came back from WJC with Covid - they didn't let him on ice (but he watched training camp from the stands) but no confirmation if he had to quarantine in a different hotel room at the beginning (link)

February 22, 2021: Trevor’s NHL debut against the Arizona Coyotes (link).

March 18, 2021: Jamie’s NHL debut, scored a goal and had an assist against the Arizona Coyotes (link). Trevor scored his first goal in this game as well. Their goals were scored just over two minutes apart. Their celebration after Trevor’s goal hangs in their living room as a painting.

Trevor played with the Ducks from Feb 22nd-April 4th; only missing the games on the 6th and 13th, the back-end of two doubleheaders. He gets sent down to the Gulls on April 4th. This is for development as a center, but also it delays his free agency until after the 2027-28 season (link)
Jamie played with the Ducks March 18th-May 8th.
This means they only overlapped for 13 NHL games during the 2021 season
2021-22 season: Brief Separation Period
It’s their first full season in the NHL and they will not be living together (until they totally move back in together).

The season starts off strong, but Jamie suffers a torn labrum on October 28, 2023 in a game against Vegas. Surprisingly, he never leaves California for long, and despite not playing another game this season, remains living with Trevor.

2023-2024 season
Jamie and Trevor are confirmed not living together to start the season (we've lived this story before). After contract hell (conversation for another time), they started the season as strong as can be expected.

September 2023: Without contracts, Jamie and Trevor were in California right before training camp formally began. They allegedly attend all the players practices, and we spotted skating at a local Catholic school rink together (link)

The long-lost remains of King Alfred the Great have been found buried under a car park, investigators claim.
Alfred died in 899, and his bones were repeatedly moved. He was buried in Winchester Cathedral until 1110, when his remains were moved to Winchester's Hyde Abbey, where they were interred before the high altar between the bodies of his wife and son.
The abbey was demolished after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, and the place was left in ruins.
In 1866, during construction of a workhouse on the site, the English antiquarian John Mellor excavated the area, found what he thought were Alfred's bones and had them reburied at nearby St. Bartholemew’s Church.
But in 2013, when archaeologists exhumed and carbon-dated the bones from St. Bartholomew’s churchyard, they proved to date from over 200 years after Alfred’s death - sparking Graham's interest and search.
He said: "Whoever’s bones they were, they weren’t Alfred’s. So, I decided to discover what happened to them.
"The quest has taken me 13 years.”
