i am big on citing my sources, but i'm also big on making stuff up. if it's not clear in my posts, i am rpf-ing here. that means i'm creating narratives based on facts, so while it might be rooted in truth, at the end of the day it's still fiction. if you have trouble differentiating fact from fiction, or are new to rpf and still learning, please familiarize yourself with how rpf fandom works so you too can have fun playing in this sandbox!

i've just seen a video of leo carlson calling cutter gauthier the biggest diva of their team and it made me wonder how his relationship with the bc line was and in general how did he fit in the equation

i know he was the most experienced one being a year older and that he was chosen as the hobey finalist from bc even if he had less points than will, but i guess people's attention was more towards the freshman line rather than towards him and how did he react about that? where they friends, was there some jealousy? I'm genuinely curious

a great question that i can't really answer lol. i started following bc about halfway through will/gabe/leno's freshmen year (leno blowing kisses to the crowd at the 2024 world juniors is what snagged our notice and got us paying attention) and yes, while there was plenty of hype about the freshmen line, bc's social media in general was pretty lacking, especially compared with umich. we got pics and goal gifs and a rare player question video, but we were mostly just having fun and making stuff up based on vibes back then lol. and even if we had more access, a player reacting with jealousy towards his teammates is just... not really something the public would see, even if that were the case? you could certainly rpf about it, but that's the kind of thing that would be kept in the locker room, imo.

it feels like some people feel somehow threatened by the bc line and how much some people still care about them and their friendship (which they ARE friends) because they don't want will to be friends with other people (and especially gabe/leno)

but those are the same people who keep talking about sid being macks "mama" so i don't even take them seriously (it's still annoying tho)

yes, i suspect that many of the people with the anti-bc line sentiment are young/new to hockey fandom and don't like leno or gabe as they are a "threat" to will/mack (from a shipping perspective). i mean, there have always been people who are mono-shippers! we used to call that having an otp. there's nothing wrong with only liking your ship and not being open to others if that's your preference. i just think it's rude to go a step further and bash on other ships then lol

but from how i see this stuff phrased... i don't think in today's fandom environment people are very good at saying 'i don't like this, it's not for me, i'm just gonna mute/block and move on' like instead they start moralizing and trying to justify their opinion, or just don't even examine why they have this bias in the first place and take their feeling of dislike as some moral indicator. 'that player gives me the ick so he must be bad, and anyone who likes him is doing something icky and wrong' type of thing.
