I’m getting really sick of being called a “chronic illness warrior.” I mean I get that every day is a struggle, struggle :: battle, so patient :: warrior and all that. But a battle implies an end - being a warrior implies you can win. Even if I manage to minimize my symptoms, I will never win. Ehlers Danlos is genetic. It will always be part of me and it will slowly grind my body down to nothing.

I prefer to think of myself as a Chronic Illness Salmon. I’m just flopping upstream as best I can, trying to be the best salmon I’m capable of being, hoping I don’t get eaten by a U.S. Healthcare Bear. Just flopping along doing the best I can until I reach my spawning grounds and it’s time for me to die.
