Lament of Icarus

3 long months of toiling on and off on this Neoclassicist master study by the majestic Herbert James Draper. Have always wanted to make this tribute piece ever since Icarus was announced but was derailed by a roller coaster of life and emotions up until this year. Then, I visited Monet's exhibition and it reminded me why I love and found art fascinating in the first place. Still dk if it's worth the amount of time spent lmfao but I can say I'm very satisfied with how it turn out. Learnt a couple things from him heh.

Happy 10th Birthday, Nachtmar!

The second doll turning 10 today. His head arrived together with Sammi's. Shelling Nachti in his merman form was a big dream for me for very long, there wasn't many choices back in the day so I decided to make him a project doll. I modded him, gave his ears fin shapes, added more fins here and there. Ara modded the eyes open.

A Jumanji can be dangerous and high-stakes (to the characters), but it doesn't need to have a metaphor or lesson, it can easily just be a "Would this be fucked up or what?" situation (e.g. a lotta Goosebumps stories). If there IS a lesson/metaphor, it will be on a smaller scale like psychological issues (e.g. Magnus Archives), family/relationship issues (e.g. Zathura), or about a specific topic (e.g. Magic School Bus). Large-scale social issues may be present (after all, Everything Is Political), but they take a definite backseat.

I respect the hell out of farmers and I'm glad that's someone's dream. because it's sure not mine

I would not be taken in by the tradwife influencer grift about milking a cow in a sundress. I have been around cows. my uncle was a dairy farmer. I love not milking a cow. I love getting milk from a store. I love getting vegetables and fruit and meat and bread from a store.

would I rather it be a local farm's store or a local bakery or butcher shop? yes! maybe when I make more money!

I finished a new illustration! Wow... that one took me long enough.

This is, in a way, fanart for Effi Briest by Theodor Fontane... which will probably surprise anyone who had to suffer through that book in German classes. And I have to admit: I never actually read it back in high school. I made it through the first three or four chapters, which was enough to survive the group assignment, and left it at that.

I only recently picked it up and read it properly.... and I still didn't like it that much.

But somehow Effi put herself firmly in my head and refused to leave until I drew her. So this ended up being something between fanart and an attempt to process the story through art.

And since Fontane and I happen to come from the same town, maybe this is also my way of paying tribute to a fellow Neuruppinian XD

As for the background, that's actually a landscape I drew last year for an idea that never happened. It sat unused in my files and I'm happy I finally found a way to use it.
