Greetings! We are here for the 2026 round of WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang, and our goal is to take the projects we've already started and to finish them by December 31st, 2026. We are an all fandoms welcome exchange and will have artist/fic claims and everything. It's both a Big Bang and a Reverse Bang, with a twist: you only need at least the bare bones of a project you've already started or drafted prior to posting, and the goal is to finish the thing.
Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!
What is the WIP Reverse Bang?
It’s similar to the regular Big Bang, except it’s for artists to finish WIP artwork (either traditional art, digital art, fanvideos, fanmixes or filk) and get a fic in exchange of at least 1000 words.
Is there anything not allowed?
Content wise, no. We're proship. Problematic fandoms are fine. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest and underage pairings are fine. Graphic violence is fine. Non-con/dubcon is fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs and original fic/art is also allowed (though it is harder to pair you with someone for fic/art). We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic. Just bear in mind that while original work is allowed you may not get art for it. However, we absolutely do not allow AI generated writing or art for either bang; it will result in a permanent ban if you are caught using AI in any capacity.
How many fics/art pieces can we sign up for?
We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups; I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic/art piece you give each fic/art piece a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics/art pieces...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins.
We encourage you to sign up for all the fics and art projects you plan on completing before May 21st and then dropping the ones you can't complete prior to snippets submissions; however, if you finish projects well before snippet submissions, we may consider letting you add new projects into the bangs on a case-by-case basis.
Is a piece that is part of another event (like a zine, FTH, or even another Big Bang) allowed as long as all the dates for posting line up?
Yes, we have no problem with you combining our event with other ones as long as you don't post new parts before July 1st (we will definitely give permission for early posting in that case).
Will I get emails about the bang?
We only email participants when their WIP has been claimed for art/fic. Please keep this fact in mind when deciding whether you want to participate; it is your responsibility to keep track of the schedule and know when check-ins and other events in the Big Bang/Reverse Bang are taking place.
If you need a reminder about due dates, the FAQ/Schedule is pinned on top of the Tumblr and Dreamwidth blogs and we use the Discord to remind participants of important dates in the Announcements channel. The pinned post on Tumblr is updated as we add links to specific things for the Big Bang/Reverse Bang, and if you join the Discord you can choose to get pinged when we make announcements regarding the events. The Discord is open year-round to both participants and non-participants, and the permanent invite link can be found above under the schedule next to the Mod email.
On that note, if you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! Our email is [email protected]. We will do our best to respond quickly.
Do I need a Tumblr/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord?
No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.
The Discord server is optional, as it is just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.
The fic I'm writing is actually multiple fics, but all part of one cohesive story. Is that accepted in the event?
Submitting fic in a series/interconnected fics under one idea is perfectly fine. When it comes time to do art claims, you can submit snippets from either the new fics you wrote or the ones you already finished, and then you and your artist can decide whether you want art just for the new fics or the project as a whole.
Is a co-written piece allowed (i.e.: a piece that is currently in-progress, co-written by two or more authors, that otherwise fits all the other criteria)?
Absolutely! The way we essentially want co-authored fics to work is this: when you sign up, you use one primary email address and pick one check-in ID to be used by both of you for the event. We're trusting if you co-author a fic together that you will talk to each other regularly, so we don't need both/all authors' emails, but if you want to give them to us I can make a note of it in the spreadsheet. (but please do let us know you are co-authoring a fic so we can let your artist be aware they will be communicating with two authors instead of one when we get to that point...you can give an artist specific info when you both contact each other).
The check-in ID and email will be used every time you fill out a form requiring them, and only one of you has to fill it out for each form (so you're only submitting your info once that way). If you have to contact us via mod email you can use either author's email, but either way you must include the check-in ID so I can look up your info by check-in ID instead of email.
Is there any way to enter the bang anonymously? Like would it be okay to put our work in an anonymous collection on AO3 or something?
There is a way, apparently, that you can anonymously post a fic to AO3 and if you want to go that route you may. However, the collection that we use to collect works each round is not anonymous, and there are the bragging posts that you post on your posting day, which you would have your username on whichever platform you use, and you do have to post bragging rights to complete your participation in the event. But if you want to, you can email the bragging rights to the mod email and we can post them on Tumblr and Dreamwidth on your behalf, which would give you anonymity on the bragging rights end as well.
I was just wondering whether I'm sworn to secrecy on which projects I'll be finishing up, or if I can shout it out to the world?
No one is sworn to secrecy once they’ve signed up (aside from posting new parts to fic that’s already up somewhere…we ask that you refrain from doing that until at least July 1st)! You can post snippets to your audience as you write them and you can talk about the specifics of your WIP wherever you want. When art claims for WIPBB and fic claims for WIPRB come around, you can advertise for your fic or art project by using specific tags for the fandom/characters/ships for your project on Tumblr posts with the links to the claims lists and you can post the link to claims in Discord servers outside of our Discord server or wherever else you can advertise with the specific info for your project..
We also have a Discord server where you can chat with other current and former participants, and we occasionally run writing sprints, where you can add more to a fic in a certain amount of time. We also have a channel for being able vent in, where you can complain or ask for help or whatever else you feel like talking about when it comes to struggling with a fic. Once you sign up (either as someone trying to finish a WIP project or someone making art for WIPBB or writing a fic for WIPRB), you can use the link at the top of this page to join the Discord.
What do you mean by minimum word count to enter the WIP Big Bang? Can an outline count towards those first 500 words that are needed at sign up?
This is a WIP Big Bang, therefore we ask you to have at least 500 words of your story drafted when you enter. You can have it written out and posted to a fic site of your choice or just have it stashed in a file in your computer, either option is fine as we're not asking for proof at sign-up. We have also admitted work on an outline before so yes, if your outline is fleshed out enough to cover a 7,500 word+ fic, we’ll allow it.
Is there a minimum word count for the finished fics?
7,500 words for each finished fic, but the sky's the limit, right?
I see that the fic minimum is 7500 words and that published WIPs are acceptable - but what if the WIP I’m considering is already more than 7500 words? Is the expectation to add an additional 7500 to it?
No. You can add as much or as little as you need to finish the story, though we do expect at least 1,000 or so new words if your WIP already meets the word count.
What happens if an author finishes the fic they signed up with but it’s less than 7,500 words? The intent was to go over the minimum but once they got into it the story was shorter than they thought and stretching it out would make it less good. Do they have to drop out at that point?
If your WIP is under 7500 when you finish you can drop out of the main Big Bang and, if you would like, post it during the Mini Bang in January/February, but it won’t get art.
What about fics that are already posted on AO3 in part? Do those qualify for the bang?
It's okay if you have posted a few chapters of your fic already (you never know when the muse deserts you, after all), we just require you to refrain from posting more until posting begins here. All we ask is that you not post any public updates to the fic until August 1st (or July 1st with the mod’s okay). We don’t want you to lose kudos and comments so don’t worry about pulling the fic down, just hold off on updates for now.
I have a fic I wrote a few years ago, but only the first couple chapters are posted on AO3 because I was never happy with the rest of it and knew it needed major revision. Is that something I could use for WIP Big Bang? The entire fic has been posted, but only on one platform, and it would be rewritten for AO3 and WIPBB.
I think revising a fic for posting would work, as long as you have at least 500 words done, will have 7,500 words at a minimum when it’s done, and are planning to add more to the fic. Simply rewriting what you have would be a gray area, but if you’re going to take stuff out and add new scenes, either in the old scenes place or on its own, you should be fine.
Are multi-chapter fics allowed?
Yes, multi-chapter fics are allowed and even more so encouraged if your fic is lengthy.
What's the etiquette around OC-centric stories? Ones that are set in a well-known fandom and use several characters, but still lean a lot on original characters? Are they discouraged, or fine?
Based on my own personal experience making art for a story that had a heavy OC presence, it’s not something we discourage at all, but be forewarned when it comes to the art accompanying your fic your artist may not be able to incorporate the OCs into your art. Not everyone makes art of a hand-drawn or digitally drawn nature, so it helps if you have people for face claims ahead of art submissions, and you and your artist communicate regularly. You can also end up with art not featuring the OCs at all, just the canon characters, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Your other options are to bring in an artist you trust with your vision of your OC or to make your own art (we do allow that, we just need to be told during the check-in before art that you’re bringing in your own artist if you go that route, or that you’re doing your own art…there will not be a need to sign up in the artist’s sign up, however), or to opt-out of art entirely. So there’s plenty of options to call on when it comes time for art.
What is the minimum requirement for the WIP Reverse Bang?
We’ll allow an outline of what you want to create or a rough sketch if you have it for digital/traditional art, and at least 15 seconds of fanvideos or filk (fic songs) recorded, or an outline and notes. Fanmixes can be partially finished with either some of the music picked or some of the art made/a combination of the above.
What do finished products for the WIP Reverse Bang look like to be considered complete?
Art must be fully drawn and at least shaded, if not fully colored. Filk and fanvideos must be at least one minute long and fully finished to the fanartist’s vision. Fanmixes must have a front and back cover and at least 8 songs picked out, and there must be an available playlist on Spotify, YouTube or for download.
Can I swap out a fic/piece of art if my muse abandons it again?
When you sign up, you give us the information on the potential fic(s)/art piece(s) you want to finish. If, say, one piece isn’t working but one you didn’t sign up for is, you can switch them out as often as you desire. It is absolutely okay to switch fics all the way up until snippets are due. By then, we hope you’ll have however many fics you plan on doing to at least 80% completion since rough drafts are due not much later. You only need to let the mods know if you need to change a check-in ID you used; in that case, just drop an email to the mods at [email protected] with the new information (title, fandom, etc.) as well as what your old check-in ID is and what you want your new check-in ID to be.
What are 'check-ins’?
These are a way for us to see what you've been up to and for you to make sure you're still on track. It will give you a little nudge/reminder if you need it, but they are not compulsory. Basically a form is posted that you fill out with your check-in ID (unique for each fic) and a checkbox to let us know you’re still participating, plus a section for any notes for the mods.
How are the check-in IDs used?
They are solely for the organizational purposes of the mods, which is why we ask you use a unique check-in ID for each project, especially if you're doing multiple projects in WIPBB or WIPRB or participating in both events. Each ID being for a separate project allows us to keep all the information you submit during check-ins and for snippets in one line on our spreadsheet. You don’t have to share your check-in IDs with anyone else if you don’t want to.
How much progress should authors be making between each checkpoint? (Percentage-wise from our estimated total wc, I guess?)
Ideally, with each check-in, you should be at least 25% closer to finishing. The end word count for fic only really matters in that the fic needs to be at least 7,500 words when done, so it’s more your progress towards finishing that should be measured, not so much the word count.
What are 'art claims' and ‘fic claims’?
The claims are when anonymous summaries of the story go up for artists to choose from for WIPBB and fic writers to claim for WIPRB. Artist sign-ups and art claims are the same thing, as are author sign-ups and fic claims for WIPRB; we use one form each for both things, and that way the artists and authors don’t have to sign up for an event they may not end up participating in. However, as the event has expanded much more than we ever could have dreamed when we started, we can no longer guarantee every fic will get a piece of art/every art project will get a fic. Mod Ragna will usually try and claim at least one project from every participant in the WIPBB for art, but that is not always feasible.
It is based on a 'first come, first served' basis and artists/authors may choose up to three potential stories/pieces of art, in case their first choice is unavailable. If there are more stories than artists, there will be a second round of claims wherein artists may choose a second story to work with, and on until we have completed four full rounds (we have changed the process we use as of the 2026 round and no longer have a pinch-hitting period in order to streamline the schedule). Same goes for fic claims; we’ll do multiple claiming periods until all four rounds of claims are done. You are more than welcome to bring in an artist/fic author of your own, and we also encourage sharing the links to the summaries outside of Tumblr (which is the only platform we do advertising one right now for fic/art claims) to get more people potentially interested in claiming it.
If a fic or piece of art up for claiming is rated explicit (R, NC-17, etc.), please only claim the story if you are over 18 years of age. Some authors and artists may be uncomfortable working with underage artists or authors on explicit works. We do not verify ages in any way for the bang, so this is solely on the honor system.
What are the snippets requirements?
For the WIP Big Bang, we require you to supply one to three snippets from your fic (preferably three), between 500 – 1500 words each. The snippets will be sent to the artist after they have claimed your story. They're to help the artist match your story for artwork the best way he or she possibly can. It’s helpful to choose scenes or parts of scenes that you feel best represent your fic, but don’t feel like they have to be perfect to be submitted. Along with the snippets, we will send your artist the basic fic info and your email, so the two of you can collaborate more if you would both like.
WIP Reverse Bang snippets is the art (at whatever level of completion you are at) uploaded to an image hosting site/YouTube/an audio steaming site and you only need to upload one piece of it. We’ll link to the site in the claiming post that you use so art will be thumbnailed/snippets of video or audio will be used. If you’re submitting a fanmix, we ask for at least the back cover graphic with the song listing.
Will the three snippets per story we have to send in for WIPBB be the ones we want the artist to make art for? Or can it just be random snippets and then later the artist and I can check together to see which scenes would work best for art?
Ideally, you and the artist will be communicating once you’re each sent each other’s contact information, and you’ll give your artist a chance to read all that you’ve written at that point. That’s what happens in most cases. If your fic gets picked by an artist and they don’t work with you, then the snippets you sent will be what the artwork will be based on. It’s a good idea to know that, while most of the time the artists work closely with the authors, there are a few exceptions to that.
Can I submit snippets on a Google Doc document/Google Drive link/Ellipsus link?
Yes, if you want to go that route instead of uploading fic snippets directly to the form or linking directly to your art you may! We only ask you make the link public and viewable to all before you submit it for claims consideration. If you do not, we will give you until the end of Round 1 of claiming to fix the issue before your summary is removed and you will then not receive art for your WIPBB project or fic for your WIPRB project.
My fic is not in English. How do I get art for my fic in art claims?
If your fic is not in English and you are not offering an English translation as well, please contact the mods via the mod email so Mod Ragna can make a cover and maybe a graphic/chapter covers while working with you on pictures of characters and English translations of snippets (you would just email the translated snippets directly to her and wouldn't submit snippets for art).
If you are including an English translation, submit snippets in English for art claims, and feel free to post both the English and non-English fics to the AO3 collection as well as provide a link to both in the Tumblr/Dreamwidth bragging rights.
Why aren’t the WIPBB fic snippets posted on the claims page like the WIPRB art snippets?
Currently, we do not post fic snippets to the claims post, nor are we planning to; we send snippets privately to the artist who has claimed them. As snippets are 500 - 1500 words each and there are one to three of them submitted per fic, the sheer amount of participants precludes us from posting them directly onto the claims form for space/organizing issues. Furthermore, some snippets submitted include explicit scenes and scenes of graphic violence and we respect the fact that our participants may not want them posted publicly outside of where they’re posting their fic.
Is there a minimum/maximum requirement for my art for WIPBB?
There is no strict minimum, but we do ask artists to remember that the authors are writing a minimum of 7,500 words and your artwork should reflect that. You can do anything you like, including banners, wallpapers, icons, mixes, vids, gif sets, picspams, etc. Suggested guidelines for art are 500x500px (or equivalent of smaller pieces like banner + spacers, cover + icons, etc.) for traditional art, digital art, and manips; 2 minutes for vids; 8 songs + cover art for mixes; and 6 images for gif sets and picspams. We also ask that when you are in contact with the author, you work with them to see if there is anything specific they would like (i.e. a wallpaper, book cover, etc.). The art is your work, but having ideas doesn't hurt!
My fic had art made earlier, before I added new chapters. Can I ask for new art?
Yes, you may put your art up for art claims even if you have art previously made, as there’s a good chance new art will be including the newer stuff you’ve written.
I want to make my own art for the WIPBB. Can I sign up for someone else to make art for me too?
Respectfully, if you plan on making your own art we ask that you do not put your fic up for art claims, in fairness to people who are unable to make their own art and are up for art claims. Each fic gets one artist, and if you make your own art and request art from someone else, that would mean you have two artists, which is unfair to the other participants.
I signed up just to finish my fic and don’t necessarily need art. Do I have to have my fic claimed for art?
No, absolutely not! If you don’t want art at all or want to make your own art, all you hae to do is ignore the snippet submission portion of the event.
What do I do if I have problems or concerns about my author/artist?
Sometimes authors and artists do not get along and this may cause problems with working together. If this happens to be the case with you, please email the mods and we will try to do what we can so that everyone has a chance to have fun at WIP Big Bang!
If you have not heard from your author/artist in some time after trying to contact them, you can reach out to us via email and we will try to get in touch with them for you.
What are the rough drafts requirements?
For the rough drafts, stories or art should be at least 75% complete. You will not have to turn them in to us, just assure us that you are at that point. Anything less is at the discretion of the mods and those authors should speak to one of the mods asap.
What is, and do I need, a beta?
A beta is basically a person who goes over your work to make sure that there are no spelling/grammatical errors and they can even be of assistance in helping you with story lines, etc. It is highly recommended that a beta looks over your work before posting. If you are having trouble finding a beta, try this post.
How early can I start posting new chapters of my work?
Posting of chapters on AO3 or your own blog (or wherever you usually post) generally starts August 1st, but you can post earlier (as early as July 1st) if you let us know you have a long story.
Where can I post my fic/art?
Stories and art can be posted to your own personal journal, Tumblr, ff-net, AO3, or wherever you like. For those of you with AO3 accounts, we will set up a collection that will go live on the day of the posting. If you don’t currently have an AO3 account but would like one, you can contact the mods for an invitation code to see if they have any available. You can also add yourself to the AO3 Invites Request queue.
What does posting look like? Do we have to post the whole thing on the day, or can we stretch it out between when posting starts and our date? I’ve had a few longfics get killed by big bangs forcing posting to happen on a given day, and would prefer to avoid that if possible.
For most fics, posting to AO3/FF.net/other places will be allowed to start on August 1st and you can stretch it out as many posts as you want as long as the complete fic is up by your posting date. However, you can send us an ask/e-mail about posting as early as August if you have an extremely long fic/something with a long posting schedule. Mostly what we want is the fic to be completely up on the website of your choice by your posting date, and I know some people don’t want to overwhelm their readers. So we want to work with writers to give them ample time to post the story up to their posting date.
Now, as for posting to the communities, you get to choose which day your link to the story and bragging rights are posted. Posting will be tiered; you'll each get your own posting date that you and your artist will decide on together, and we have a range of dates from September 8th to November 30th with five stories and art projects posting a day between both WIPBB and WIPRB participants. The post with date claims will go up on August 23rd and you'll have to choose your date by September 1st.
Posting has to be finished by your chosen posting date to the comm. Projects for WIPBB and WIPRB should be posted to YouTube/Soundcloud/Spotify/Tumblr/Dreamwidth, and on your claimed posting date you will make a post to Tumblr or Dreamwidth using the Bragging Rights form. Please do not add your project to the WIPBB/WIPRB AO3 collection until the project posting is completely finished!
If you want to embed the art for your project into an AO3 post, you can do that as well. Fic should be posted to the writing site of your choice on your posting day, and art should be posted to a site where it can be hosted permanently; if you post to AO3 we’ll have an AO3 collection open for each specific year which is open to all WIPBB fics/WIPBB art projects and WIPRB art projects/WIPRB fics. You are allowed to archive lock your WIPBB/WIPRB projects as well. Art for WIPBB and fics for WIPRB will be due on the chosen posting date to the comm between the authors and the artists as well.
If you are posting your Bragging Rights to Tumblr, you can submit the Tumblr post to our blog before your posting date as well, or post to your own Tumblr and tag the WIP Big Bang blog by adding @wipbigbang in the body of the post. Either way works for us. If you are posting to Dreamwidth the post will be queued until you chosen posting date. If for some reason you can’t post your bragging rights to Tumblr or Dreamwidth, you can email your Bragging Rights to the mod email and we will post them on your behalf to both Tumblr and Dreamwidth and send you the links. Posting your Bragging Rights is mandatory.
If for some reason you miss your posting date, you have from December 1st until December 31st to post to the community, during the month of emergency posting dates. So hopefully there should be plenty of time to get a longfic up and posted to the website of your choice and our BB.
What am I posting to the Dreamwidth/Tumblr community if I’m posting the fic elsewhere?
You’ll be posting what we call bragging rights. It’s a small form you fill out and post to the community with a link to your fic. We will post a template for posting artwork and stories to the comm closer to the posting date. Once your Bragging Rights have been posted to Tumblr or Dreamwidth, you will take the link to that post and submit that link into the final check-in form to signify you finished your project before posting ends at midnight PST on January 1st. If you do not submit a link to your bragging rights, you will be banned from being a WIPBB author/WIPRB artist for one round,
Bragging Rights are mandatory for WIPBB authors and WIPRB artists, who had agreed in the posting dates claim to post their fic/art by December 31st. The Bragging Rights posted to Tumblr or Dreamwidth are how we know you completed your fic/art, and that's why the link is supposed to be to your Bragging Rights, not just the fic art. Bragging Rights are not mandatory for WIPBB artists and WIPRB authors, as they did not sign the agreement to post by December 31st. We love having them, post Bragging Rights but as they did not sign the agreement when posting dates were chosen, they are not required to post them and don't have to post anything to the final check-in form.
Can I get an extension?
Absolutely! We will try our best to accommodate you as long as they are discussed with the mods via [email protected]. Extensions when it comes to submitting snippets is a little tricky, as there's just about a week of turnaround time from when we stop accepting snippet submissions to when we put the first round of claims up; however, if you contact us via the mod email, we can accept your summary without having your snippets sent at the same time, and sometimes we can take the information after the snippets submission form has closed as well (though this is much rarer and must be done sooner rather than later).
We can definitely offer extensions when it comes to posting dates, and the entire month of December is available for emergency posting or posting if you missed your assigned date in September, October or November. Just let us know through the mod email if you need to change your date (you can also choose to post in December directly in the posting dates sign-up form).
There is no need to have extensions on our four check-ins, as they're all optional.
Can I drop out?
We have high hopes that everybody who signs up can actually finish the round and share in the joy of the reveal with us, but real life can unfortunately get in the way and we completely understand! You must drop out via sending an email to [email protected], and we would prefer you drop by before art/fic claims start (July 16th) if you want art for your fic/fic for your art project, or August 14th if you aren’t getting any art or fic. But we take drop outs all the way to December 31st, realistically.
If you are dropping your project and you have been assigned an artist/author, it is your responsibility to inform your partner that you are dropping your project. In this case, all we need for the email is your check-in ID, whatever posting date you've been assigned (if you have one) and whether you are participating in WIPBB or WIPRB (so I know which spreadsheet you're on).
If you are dropping and your project is still up for pinch hitting, give us your check-in ID (for the spreadsheet) and your fic fandom/title (for the pinch hit form) and let us know whether it's WIPBB or WIPRB.
If you are dropping and you haven't been assigned an artist/author, all you need to do is send us your check-in ID, whatever posting date you've been assigned (if you have one) and whether you are participating in WIPBB or WIPRB (so I know which spreadsheet you're on).
If you are a WIPBB artist, WIPRB author or a pinch hitter and you just can't complete your project by December 31st, let us know immediately and also inform your project partner as well, as that is your responsibility.
Is it possible to be banned?
We do have a banned users list. We hope to use this to encourage participants who are having issues to communicate with the mods. We want to help you! The way the ban works is that participants, either WIPBB authors or WIPRB artists, will be banned for dropping out without notifying a mod via the mod email account at [email protected]. This means that anyone who has signed up to post and picked a date for posting and has not posted or talked to a mod by the time the posting period ends (January 1st of the following year) will be banned. Dropping out is not in and of itself a banning offense, so please do not panic if you have to drop out! We understand that there are many reasons you may need to drop, and we want to work with you.
Bans will last one round or until the issue is resolved, whichever comes first. To resolve a ban, authors will have to finish and post the story they signed up with, and artists will have to finish and post the art for the story they claimed. Three bans will result in a permanent ban from the bang.
As of the 2026 round we have expunged the block list, so everyone who may have been banned before is allowed to try again. It will definitely be in effect for the 2027 round, however.
I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here.
If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, [email protected].
WIP Big Bang/WIP Reverse Bang 2026 - Sign-Ups Are Now Closed!
Both the forms for WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang sign-ups are now closed! We had 430 sign-ups for WIPBB and 43 sign-ups for WIPRB! I had bad health issues the last two days so I will go through the Notes to Mods later today and answer them, so my apologies for not doing them the last two days.

Reminder to self: A file folder of outlines and character notes and half-written scenes is the equivalent of an artist’s sketchbook and holds just as much value to the creative process.
If a framed canvas isn’t the only worthwhile expression of visual art, then a fully edited and polished piece of significant length is not the only worthwhile expression of writing.
We're back for 2026's Valzhang event! Do you love Valzhang? Do you want an excuse to finally make art of them? Do you want to see Valzhang works made by other fans? If yes, then consider joining this year's Bang! More details below.
LINK FOR APPLICATION
What's a Bang and how does it work?
During this event, creators will be trading their works and making art inspired by others'!
The event is split into two: during the first creation period, artists will make a Valzhang work (visual art or writing). It can be anything, any idea or concept the artist wants.
Then the art gets swapped around. During the second creation period, every participant receives a work created by another person during the first half, and they create another work based on it. Depicting a scene from it, making concept art of it, writing a story based on it, etc.
So in short, every person creates two works and receives a "gift" inspired by the first one. If you wrote a fic, you'll receive a companion art piece; if you drew art, you'll receive a companion fic!
What's the schedule?
June 9 - June 31: Sign-ups
July 1 - September 1: First creation period
September 2: First work submission
September 3 - November 3: Second creation period
November 5: Final posting!
What are the rules?
Please keep all works relatively SFW (no explicit sexual content, or graphic violence/gore, for example).
Every fic is expected to be at least 1k words, in English, and with grammar sufficient enough to be comprehensible.
Every art piece is expected to be finished/sufficiently cleaned. The definition of this is subjective and differs case-by-case, so there are no strict standards; just be sensible and make your own judgment about it.
If you need an extension for your work, please let me know at least three days before the deadline of the submissions.
Avoid discussing or posting your work before the final posting date. During the submissions, your work is sent to me personally. Fics can be sent through a PDF/text file. Any image file is fine for art.
If you have a problem with the work you've been paired with, let me know as early as possible so something can be figured out with other participants.
On the day, if posting your works on Tumblr, tag with "vzbang2026".
Have fun!
If you're interested, sign up with the form above! If you have any questions or concerns, just let me know in my askbox (or type it out in the form)!
Let's all have fun Valzhanging out together this summer 💕

Just because of some stuff I saw yesterday: if you are a minor online, please do not openly identify yourself as such. It is not safe, it allows adults who want to interact with minors for bad purposes to know you are one.
There are different, safer ways to accomplish your goals than to do that.
You do not need to identify yourself publicly as a minor online to:
Ask that people respect your boundaries
Not create or interact with adult material
Not be a victim of harassment
Not give away personal information
All these are normal things anyone of any age can do online.
If you are being invited into spaces you don't want to be in as a minor, or which people have asked you not to be in as a minor, decline for any or no reason. If an adult wants to do something with you they should not with a minor, decline for any or no reason. If people do not accept that, they are not people you should be interacting with. Don't pretend to be an adult, just don't say you aren't.
I understand that recently, more people under 18 tend to say that they are under 18 to protect themselves online. People who are not dangerous don't need that information. People who are dangerous will gladly use it because they know you are vulnerable. You are not protecting yourself.
As an adult who doesn't really care to interact with minors, I probably won't interact a lot with you if you are "young." That's not hard to catch from the way people act online. If you are "young" I care about you being safe and not victimized by opportunists, regardless of your birth year.
Protect your identity and safety on the internet, and if you are a person who is vulnerable, be a mysterious figure. Make silly posts. Complain about "people you know." Complain about "living with your parents."
I know you want to interact online. You have to be safe if you do.
You don't owe anyone personal information ever at any time. But also, be wary of cheeky fun posts that try to prompt you into sharing where you live or your age by proxy — posts like "oh tell me where you're from and your thoughts about X" or "tell me your thoughts on generation whatever" may seem innocent but you may end up exposing yourself when you interact with them.
Welcome to Dead Dove Summer! A casual 18+ fanwork event!
The purposes of this event are as follows:
Present a list of prompts that are kinky, dark and/or taboo.
Present a casual timeline of creation to take the pressure off of creating something immediately.
Have fun and share our stuff with each other while keeping everything labeled. Think of this like a cake convention. If you don't want red velvet, don't take a slice. It'll be labeled. ;)
In the next few days I'll be posting the bingo boards and some basic guidelines/ideas for how people can do this event. As the mod, I plan to be participating myself, so I will be fairly hands off save for answering asks, posting submissions to this blog and maybe creating a collection on Ao3.
Possible FAQ:
First and foremost: This hasn't been a question yet but works generated by AI are not welcome in this event.
People dreamed and created works Only.
Q: The mod is StarlightCaptivator? Does this mean this event is Transformers fandom only?
A: Nope! Though I don't expect this event to go much further than TF fandom. TF is a fandom ripe for dark and kinky topics explored in a way that is much more palatable for some folks. Do what you want though, I'm not your mom.
Q: So is this a Fanfiction only event?
A: Nope! Fic or art is welcome. Of course, being hosted on Tumblr means we have some.... visual restrictions, but as long as the links are above board, links to bluesky, pixiv or other sites that host content tumblr doesn't are cool. Or try on tumblr, still not your mom. (another perk of tf fandom, to be honest)
Q: What If I don't want to tag stuff?
A: Then this event may not be for you! It's literally on the bag! Tags within chapters are cool, Art will need to be tagged by the artist, not just tossed into submission willy-nilly. I'm trying to have fun here too you know.
Q: Dead Dove: Do Not Eat means "bad/wrong" to me.
A: "Dead Dove: Do Not Eat" Is a content warning system that means you will find exactly what is written on the bag in it. If it's labeled with {X}, it means there's an expectation that there will be {X} in the fic/art. I'm not interested in moralizing kink and fiction in this event as "good" or "bad", so I will not be.
I'm sure this will grow as we go, I'm looking forward to what everyone will be making!
“i promised myself that i would get along with my roommate in college but you like star trek and i like star wars and this is never gonna work” au

ABOUT | FAQ | RULES
Instructions for getting and filling out your bingo cards are below the cut, as well as in the FAQ!
🎲 Getting your bingo sheet 🎲
There are 85 cards total broken up into six categories: Wild Card, Knives Out, Glass Onion, Wake Up Dead Man, NSFW, and Angst.
The Wild cards (Cards 1-15) include general prompts, prompts specific to any of the three films, and some mild mature/angst prompts.
The Knives Out cards (Cards 16-30) include general prompts and prompts specific to Knives Out. You may or may not get one prompt to check out something from another film!
The Glass Onion cards (Cards 31-45) include general prompts and prompts specific to Glass Onion. You may or may not get one prompt to check out something from another film!
The Wake Up Dead Man cards (Cards 46-65) include general prompts and prompts specific to WUDM. You may or may not get one prompt to check out something from another film!
The NSFW cards (Cards 66-75) include general prompts and NSFW prompts, not exclusively NSFW prompts.
The Angst cards (Cards 76-85) include general prompts and Angst prompts, not exclusively Angst prompts.
Getting your bingo card:
Use a random number generator and roll for a number (either 1-85 if you want to get wild, or you can specify the listed ranges if you want a card from a specific category).
Open the bingo sheet google drive folder and select the card corresponding to the number you rolled.
✍️ Filling out your bingo sheet ✍️
Each box on the bingo sheet is a prompt for either a type of work you should leave a comment on (i.e. “fic with <1000 words”), or a type of comment (“ask a question”). When you’ve completed the prompt, cross out the box.
One comment fulfills one box. So, if you leave a comment asking a question on a “fic with <1000 words,” this comment can count for either “ask a question" OR ”<1000 words,“ but NOT both.
A “comment” to fulfill a bingo box can be: A comment on AO3 or a reblog on tumblr with a comment in the tags or text box (for fic/art posted to tumblr). There is no length requirement on a comment—even something as simple as “love this!” counts as a fill.
🚂 Participating in the hype train 🚂
You are encouraged to make posts that share recs and fanworks as you work on your bingo sheet. If you get a “bingo” (5 boxes on the bingo sheet in a row) or “blackout” (all the boxes filled), you can make a post showing us! If you @ us, we’ll reblog the evidence of your amazing success. We’d love to see the titles or links to the fics and fanworks you commented on!
You are also encouraged to comment on, add to, and share posts about the event! Help your friends hunt down or discover fanworks they might like. The event tag is #benoit blanc bingo, so have at it!

So I stumbled across this really useful thing which I use for writing and wanted to share it with you all.
(source: changingminds.org)
The eyes are often called, with some justification, ‘the windows of the soul’ as they can send many different non-verbal signals. For reading body language this is quite useful as looking at people’s eyes are a normal part of communication (whilst gazing at other parts of the body can be seen as rather rude). When a person wears dark glasses, especially indoors, this prevents others from reading their eye signals. It is consequently rather disconcerting, which is why ‘gangsters’ and those seeking to appear powerful sometimes wear them.
Looking Up
When a person looks upwards they are often thinking. In particular they are probably making pictures in their head and thus may well be an indicator of a visual thinker.
When they are delivering a speech or presentation, looking up may be their recalling their prepared words.
Looking upwards and to the left can indicate recalling a memory. Looking upwards and the right can indicate imaginative construction of a picture (which can hence betray a liar). Be careful with this: sometimes the directions are reversed — if in doubt, test the person by asking them to recall known facts or imagine something.
Looking up may also be a signal of boredom as the person examines the surroundings in search of something more interesting.
Head lowered and eyes looking back up at the other person is a coy and suggestive action as it combines the head down of submission with eye contact of attraction. It can also be judgemental, especially when combined with a frown.
Looking Down
Looking at a person can be an act of power and domination. Looking down involves not looking at the other person, which hence may be a sign of submission (‘I am not a threat, really; please do not hurt me. You are so glorious I would be dazzled if I looked at you.’)
Looking down can thus be a signal of submission. It can also indicate that the person is feeling guilty.
A notable way that a lower person looks down at a higher person is by tilting their head back. Even taller people may do this.
Looking down and to the left can indicate that they are talking to themselves (look for slight movement of the lips). Looking down and to the right can indicate that they are attending to internal emotions.
In many cultures where eye contact is a rude or dominant signal, people will look down when talking with others in order to show respect.
Looking Sideways
Much of our field of vision is in the horizontal plane, so when a person looks sideways, they are either looking away from what is in front of them or looking towards something that has taken their interest.
A quick glance sideways can just be checking the source of a distraction to assess for threat or interest. It can also be done to show irritation (‘I didn’t appreciate that comment!’).
Looking to the left can indicate a person recalling a sound. Looking to the right can indicate that they are imagining the sound. As with visual and other movements, this can be reversed and may need checking against known truth and fabrication.
Lateral movement
Eyes moving from side-to-side can indicate shiftiness and lying, as if the person is looking for an escape route in case they are found out.
Lateral movement can also happen when the person is being conspiratorial, as if they are checking that nobody else is listening.
Eyes may also move back and forth sideways (and sometimes up and down) when the person is visualizing a big picture and is literally looking it over.
Gazing
Looking at something shows an interest in it, whether it is a painting, a table or a person. When you look at something, then others who look at your eyes will feel compelled to follow your gaze to see what you are looking at. This is a remarkable skill as we are able to follow a gaze very accurately.
When looking at a person normally, the gaze is usually at eye level or above (see eye contact, below). The gaze can also be a defocused looking at the general person.
Looking at a person’s mouth can indicate that you would like to kiss them. Looking at sexual regions indicates a desire to have sexual relations with them.
Looking up and down at a whole person is usually sizing them up, either as a potential threat or as a sexual partner (notice where the gaze lingers). This can be quite insulting and hence indicate a position of presumed dominance, as the person effectively says ‘I am more powerful than you, your feelings are unimportant to me and you will submit to my gaze’.
Looking at their forehead or not at them indicates disinterest. This may also be shown by defocused eyes where the person is ‘inside their head’ thinking about other things.
The power gaze is a short but intense gaze that is used to impose one’s will on another, showing power without aggression.
It is difficult to conceal a gaze as we are particularly adept at identifying exactly where other people are looking. This is one reason why we have larger eye whites than animals, as it aids complex communication.
People who are lying may look away more often as they feel guilty when looking at others. However, when they know this, they may over-compensate by looking at you for longer than usual. This also helps them watch your body language for signs of detection.
The acceptable duration of a gaze varies with culture and sometimes even a slight glance is unacceptable, such as between genders or by a lower status person.
Non-visual gaze patterns (NVGPs) involve rapid movements (saccades) and fixations while we are ‘inside our heads’, thinking. Rapid movements happen more when we are accessing long-term memory and fixations more when we are accessing working memory. This is useful to detect whether people are thinking about older events or recent events (or old events that are already brought to working memory).
Glancing
Glancing at something can betray a desire for that thing, for example glancing at the door can indicate a desire to leave.
Glancing at a person can indicate a desire to talk with them. It can also indicate a concern for that person’s feeling when something is said that might upset them.
Glancing may indicate a desire to gaze at something or someone where it is forbidden to look for a prolonged period.
Glancing sideways at a person with raised eyebrows can be a sign of attraction. Without the raised eyebrow it is more likely to be disapproval.
Eye Contact
Eye contact between two people is a powerful act of communication and may show interest, affection or dominance.
Doe Eyes
A softening of the eyes, with relaxing of muscles around the eye and a slight defocusing as the person tries to take in the whole person is sometimes called doe eyes, as it often indicates sexual desire, particularly if the gaze is prolonged and the pupils are dilated (see below). The eyes may also appear shiny.
Making Eye Contact
Looking at a person acknowledges them and shows that you are interested in them, particularly if you look in their eyes.
Looking at a person’s eyes also lets you know where they are looking. We are amazingly good at detecting what they are looking at and can detect even a brief glance at parts of our body, for example.
If a person says something when you are looking away and then you make eye contact, then this indicates they have grabbed your attention.
Breaking eye contact
Prolonged eye contact can be threatening, so in conversation we frequently look away and back again.
Breaking eye contact can indicate that something that has just been said that makes the person not want to sustain eye contact, for example that they are insulted, they have been found out, they feel threatened, etc. This can also happen when the person thinks something that causes the same internal discomfort. Of course, a break in eye contact can also be caused by something as simple as dried out contacts or any new stimulus in one’s immediate area, so it’s important to watch for other signals.
Looking at a person, breaking eye contact and then looking immediately back at them is a classic flirting action, particularly with the head held coyly low in suggested submission.
Long eye contact
Eye contact longer than normal can have several different meanings.
Eye contact often increases significantly when we are listening, and especially when we are paying close attention to what the other person is saying. Less eye contact is used when talking, particularly by people who are visual thinkers as they stare into the distance or upwards as they ‘see’ what they are talking about.
We also look more at people we like and like people who look at us more. When done with doe eyes and smiles, it is a sign of attraction. Lovers will stare into each others eyes for a long period. Attraction is also indicated by looking back and forth between the two eyes, as if we are desperately trying to determine if they are interested in us too.
An attraction signal that is more commonly used by women is to hold the other person’s gaze for about three seconds, Then look down for a second or two and then look back up again (to see if they have taken the bait). If the other person is still looking at them, they are rewarded with a coy smile or a slight widening of the eyes (‘Yes, this message is for you!’).
When done without blinking, contracted pupils and an immobile face, this can indicate domination, aggression and use of power. In such circumstances a staring competition can ensue, with the first person to look away admitting defeat.
Prolonged eye contact can be disconcerting. A trick to reduce stress from this is to look at the bridge of their nose. They will think you are still looking in their eyes.
Sometimes liars, knowing that low eye contact is a sign of lying, will over-compensate and look at you for a longer than usual period. Often this is done without blinking as they force themselves into this act. They may smile with the mouth, but not with the eyes as this is more difficult.
Limited eye contact
When a person makes very little eye contact, they may be feeling insecure. They may also be lying and not want to be detected.
In persuasion
Eye contact is very important for persuasion. If you look at the other person and they do not look back at you, then their attention is likely elsewhere. Even if they hear you, the lack of eye contact reduces the personal connection.
If you want to persuade or change minds, then the first step is to gain eye contact and then sustain it with regular reconnection.
Staring
Staring is generally done with eyes wider than usual, prolonged attention to something and with reduced blinking. It generally indicates particular interest in something or someone.
Staring at a person can indicate shock and disbelief, particularly after hearing unexpected news.
When the eyes are defocused, the person’s attention may be inside their head and what they are staring at may be of no significance. (Without care, this can become quite embarrassing for them).
Prolonged eye contact can be aggressive, affectionate or deceptive and is discussed further above. Staring at another’s eyes is usually more associated with aggressive action.
A short stare, with eyes wide open and then back to normal indicates surprise. The correction back to normal implies that the person would like to stare more, but knows it is impolite (this may be accompanied with some apologetic text).
When a person stares at another, then the second person may be embarrassed and look away. If they decide to stare back, then the people ‘lock eyes’ and this may become a competition with the loser being the person who looks away first.
The length of an acceptable stare varies across cultures, as does who is allowed to stare, and at what. Babies and young children stare more, until they have learned the cultural rules.
Following
The eyes will naturally follow movement of any kind. If the person is looking at something of interest then they will naturally keep looking at this. They also follow neutral or feared things in case the movement turns into a threat.
This is used when sales people move something like a pen or finger up and down, guiding where the customer looks, including to eye contact and to parts of the product being sold.
Squinting
Narrowing of a person’s eyes can indicate evaluation, perhaps considering that something told to them is not true (or at least not fully so).
Squinting can also indicate uncertainty (‘I cannot quite see what is meant here.’)
Narrowing eyes has a similar effect to constricted pupils in creating a greater depth of field so you can see more detail. This is used by animals when determining distance to their prey and can have a similar aggressive purpose.
Squinting can be used by liars who do not want the other person to detect their deception.
When a person thinks about something and does not want to look at the internal image, they may involuntarily squint.
Squinting can also happen when lights or the sun are bright.
Lowering of eyelids is not really a squint but can have a similar meaning. It can also indicate tiredness.
Lowering eyelids whilst still looking at the other person can be a part of a romantic and suggestive cluster, and may be accompanied with tossing back the head and slightly puckering the lips in a kiss.
Blinking
Blinking is a neat natural process whereby the eyelids wipe the eyes clean, much as a windscreen wiper on a car.
Blink rate tends to increase when people are thinking more or are feeling stressed. This can be an indication of lying as the liar has to keep thinking about what they are saying. Realizing this, they may also force their eyes open and appear to stare.
Blinking can also indicate rapport, and people who are connected may blink at the same rate. Someone who is listening carefully to you is more likely to blink when you pause (keeping eyes open to watch everything you say).
Beyond natural random blinking, a single blink can signal surprise that the person does not quite believe what they see (‘I’ll wipe my eyes clean to better see’).
Rapid blinking blocks vision and can be an arrogant signal, saying ‘I am so important, I do not need to see you’.
Rapid blinking also flutters the eyelashes and can be a coy romantic invitation.
Reduced blinking increases the power of a stare, whether it is romantic or dominant in purpose.
Winking
Closing one eye in a wink is a deliberate gesture that often suggests conspiratorial (‘You and I both understand, though others do not’).
Winking can also be a slightly suggestive greeting and is reminiscent of a small wave of the hand (‘Hello there, gorgeous!’).
Closing
Closing the eyes shuts out the world. This can mean ‘I do not want to see what is in front of me, it is so terrible’.
Sometimes when people are talking they close their eyes. This is an equivalent to turning away so eye contact can be avoided and any implied request for the other person to speak is effectively ignored.
Visual thinkers may also close their eyes, sometimes when talking, so they can better see the internal images without external distraction.
Damp
The tear ducts provide moisture to the eyes, both for washing them and for tears.
Damp eyes can be suppressed weeping, indicating anxiety, fear or sadness. It can also indicate that the person has been crying recently.
Dampness can also occur when the person is tired (this may be accompanied by redness of the eyes.
Tears
Actual tears that roll down the cheeks are often a symptom of extreme fear or sadness, although paradoxically you can also weep tears of joy.
Weeping can be silent, with little expression other than the tears (indicating a certain amount of control). It also typically involves screwing up of the face and, when emotions are extreme, can be accompanied by uncontrollable, convulsive sobs.
Men in many culture are not expected to cry and learn to suppress this response, not even being able to cry when alone. Even if their eyes feel damp they may turn away.
Tears and sadness may be transformed into anger, which may be direct at whoever is available.
Pupil Size
A subtle signal that is sometimes detected only subconsciously and is seldom realized by the sender is where the pupil gets larger (dilates) or contracts.
Sexual desire is a common cause of pupil dilation, and is sometimes called ‘doe eyes’ or ‘bedroom eyes’ (magazine pictures sometimes have deliberately doctored eyes to make a model look more attractive). When another person’s eyes dilate we may be attracted further to them and our eyes dilate in return. Likewise, when their pupils are small, ours may well contract also.
A fundamental cause of eye dilation is cognitive effort. When we are thinking more, our eyes dilate. This helps explain ‘doe eyes’ as when we like others people, looking at them leads to significant thinking about how we may gain and sustain their attention.
Pupils dilate also when it is darker to let in more light. Perhaps this is why clubs, bars, restaurants and other romantic venues are so dingy.
People with dark irises (the colored circle around the pupil) can look attractive because it is difficult to distinguish the iris from the pupil, with the effect is that their dark pupils look larger than they are. People with light irises make the pupils easier to see, so when their pupils actually do dilate then the signal is clearer to detect, making them more attractive ‘at the right time’.
The reverse of this is that pupils contract when we do not like the other person, perhaps in an echo of squint-like narrowing of the eyes. People with small pupils can hence appear threatening or just unpleasant.
Rubbing
When a person is feeling uncomfortable, the eyes may water a little. To cover this and try to restore an appropriate dryness, they person may rub their eye and maybe even feign tiredness or having something in the eye. This also gives the opportunity to turn the head away.
The rubbing may be with one finger, with a finger and thumb (for two eyes) or with both hands. The more the coverage, the more the person is trying to hide behind the hands.

Hey guys! We’re doing a Klaroline fanfic event for July 2026! Each week in July will be a different theme and you can create as many Klaroline works as you’d like (fics, one-shots, drabbles, a few paragraphs, entire WIP chapters, aesthetics/mood boards, art, etc.) for each theme.
Week 1 [July 1-July 5, 2026] – Canonish: We’re looking for Klaroline-centric works that operate within canon — sort of. Have you always wanted to fix the irritating things that canon got wrong? Or, maybe show that conversation or scene that canon selfishly denied us? Here’s your chance!
Week 2 [July 6-July 12, 2026] – Historical: We’re looking for Klaroline-centric works set in a historical time period. Human, supernatural or something in between — just put Klaroline in any time period you find fascinating!
Week 3 [July 13-July 19, 2026] – Crime: We’re looking for Klaroline-centric works that feature criminal and/or law enforcement elements like mafia, spies, courtroom, murder mystery, grifters, prison, etc.
Week 4 [July 20-July 26, 2026] – Science fiction: We’re looking for Klaroline-centric works with science fiction elements. Time travel, aliens, space travel, insidious AI or other diabolical technology, futuristic, dystopian, genetic experiments, etc. — pick any kind of sci-fi you like and put a Klaroline twist on it!
Week 5 [July 27-July 31, 2026] – Soulmates: We’re looking for Klaroline-centric works about soulmates. Do they have soul marks, share thoughts or injuries? Were they fated to be soul mates, or did nature force the issue? Pick whatever soul mate elements you can come up with and feature Klaroline.
To participate in the event:
For each designated week, post your works on tumblr and be sure to tag us within the post @klarolinefanficweek.
Be sure to like and reblog everyone’s works so we can enjoy everyone’s creativity!
