My friend has just started watching GoT and she already knows that the Red Wedding is this big plot twist but she doesn't actually know what it entails or whose wedding it is exactly. Considering a ST x ASOIAF AU and I NEED some advice in placing certain characters into houses or fractions.
I've already sorted some things out. First things first I'm gonna have Jane/Eleven be a wildling beyond the Wall, idk it just feels right. I was also thinking Hopper could be First Ranger in the Night's Watch? And maybe Brenner as Lord Commander? I haven't decided on that bit, but I'd feel like it'd be better if only one of them was in the Night's Watch. Maybe Brenner could be a Maester elsewhere or sum.
I've already decided to put Will in house Reed, and maybe he could also be a warg with some other magical elements in there that I haven't really considered yet. Honestly I just like the concept. Also Lucas is gonna be from the Summer Isles, possibly traveling to Westeros for diplomatic purposes (since I'm gonna have to somehow make the party eventually meet), maybe traveling with his mother or father to experience court in King's Landing or sum.
Dustin is DEFINITELY going to be a Maester in training or a Maester that has just finished forging his chain and is being sent off to a specific house (possibly to one of the locations where one other member of the party is). Dustin was also previously of house Manderly so there could be some North solidarity with Will there. I've considered Mr. Clark to be a Maester and act as kind of a mentor figure in Oldtown.
Now Max and Mike are the ones I'm struggling with the most. I was thinking of putting Mike in house Baratheon, but I want him to be situated in King's Landing at the start of the story so I don't know how the circumstances might work there. When I first started thinking of this I considered making him a Targaryen bastard or a pure Targaryen bcs I wanted him to be on the Iron Throne for some reason, I was thinking of leaning in the "rebel king" or "runaway king" trope, not sure how that might work with him being a Baratheon, maybe I could make him one of Robert's bastards post-rebellion that manages to take the throne back? Not sure.
I have NO idea where to put Max, I was thinking of Tully at first but I didn't want to have two party members in great houses. Though I'm definitely gonna have her be a ward somewhere so wherever she's from she's not gonna be there at the start of the story. I also thought of house Martell at some point but I scrapped that idea as quickly as it came to me. Maybe she could be from the Reach? Redwyne possibly? Also whatever place she's a ward in has to be Billy's home/house, since it seems a great concept to me for Billy to think she's an outsider just like in the show.
I'll just take any suggestions at this point, or anything in the ASOIAF universe that seems similar to elements in ST. But yeah I haven't really looked at cleradin lore lately I'm not sure if that might help.

And just my two cents, but Max immediately screams Northerner to me. idk why but I never pondered this before and that's what directly appeared in my mind: no nonsense, practical, psychologically super strong, fiercely loyal, she belongs in the North
(and she would look fucking badass with a sword)
I actually thought of that too at first, maybe it was the red hair that made me scrap it? Since it's a Tully trait. But yeah, her personality definitely screams north, you're right. And maybe if I put her somewhere relatively close to the Wall (Karstark for example), there could be some elmax potential interactions. I'll definitely reconsider!
she would be so good as a Karstark! Like, she doesn't scream big house (like Stark, meaning privilege) to me, but definitely a smaller one that lives and dies by their word. And yeah, having her close to El could be super compelling!
I get the thing about the red hair, but Ygritte and Tormund had it too! So it might even be used as symbolism for her free nature and connection to the wildlings (if you want to go there)

I HATE the amnesia trope, I'm only slightly tolerant of it when it's a plot device at the START of the story. If I start reading or watching something that very steadily makes sure to develop the character's feelings in a realistic way, have them second guess each other, slowly learn to trust one another, get to know and care for each other, develop romantic feelings in the sweetest way possible, and then suddenly TAKE IT ALL AWAY, all of that progress GONE, ESPECIALLY when it's enemies to lovers, bro I'm genuinely gonna demolish my own apartment complex out of pure ANGER, when I tell you it leaves me SEETHING. I don't CARE if it serves the narrative, I don't CARE if it's plot relevant, I HATE IT.
When I crack open a drarry fanfic but instead of intrinsic spellbinding soulmates peculiar magical workplaces enemies to friends to lovers powerful rugged sassy harry posh classy remorseful draco found family slow burn idiots in love subconscious past crush/obsession at hogwarts, I get gary stu alpha male malfoy lobotomized harry with the author glazing draco every nanosecond while implying that harry is a stupid ahh chud that wouldn't have accomplished anything without Hermione insta love quick pace micharacterisation with every coming line out of a subject's mouth.
