Today's aesthetic: cosmic horror tabletop RPGs from the 1980s whose creators wrote the "madness rules" by simply plagiarising a list of disorders and their descriptions from the DSM-II and turning it into a d100 lookup table, except the DSM-II still listed "homosexuality" as a mental disorder (it wasn't removed until the DSM-III), with the result that there are several published tabletop RPGs where there's a small but non-zero chance that seeing Cthulhu will make you gay.
i love pictures of the international space station which are just completely overexposed because that is just.. unequivocally an angel.

Every repressed nerd on this website: This is a song about my dnd party. It's a metaphor for gay.
Horny bard is cancelled. Weâre bringing the dad bard to the table.
Bardic Inspiration? Because I believe in you, champ!
Vicious Mockery? Itâs all dad jokes.
Seducing NPCs? Nope, weâre using Persuasion to get them to give you information you need, because âIâm not angry, Iâm just disappointed.â
Jack of All Trades? Yeah, yer old dad knows a little bit about everything.
Song of Rest? Itâs called âtucking you in and giving you a bedtime story.â

Video Game Idea.
A game that is marketed as your standard fishing game and for the first 20 minutes or so you catch normal fish like bluegill and bass and what have you. But the further you go into the lake you start to catch fish with mutations and it gets more and more intense until youâre pulling in Eldritch horror monsters and sometimes severed human limbs. You realize you donât recall how you got to this lake in the first place and the objective becomes to find your way back to shore. You have no real weapons but you can throw the creatures youâve caught far away from the boat as a means to distract whatever is underneath you, bumping into the boat sometimes. Additional items for the game.
A fishing pole with a radar that starts out with just beeps but later includes noises with hidden messages.
A GPS that displays texts and story elements.
You meet other boaters, all from various backgrounds, countries, and time periods. Some are friendly, others want to sacrifice you to the lake monsters.
You can also take the route of sacrificing others to the lake monster.
Or you can assemble a party and work to keep them safe.
The more fucked up looking the fish you catch, the closer youâre getting to a boss fight, which is usually running from something you can only see part of in the water.
????
And thatâs my game idea.
More details.
It never stops being a fishing game. You are always fishing and searching for new areas where there is more activity in order to progress the story.
Depending on the choices you make and the amount of mutant fish you consume, you may start to mutate yourself. The fishing pole is part of your arm, you donât notice it until later. If you consume mostly non-mutated fish and donât sacrifice to the monsters you can keep the mutations to a minimum.
You can go full mutant and the boat becomes part of your body as well. This makes the monsters pay less attention to you, but you can no longer befriend or trade items with humans. You can still catch human remains and most of them are carrying items.
If you stay mostly human you can work to gather as many surviving humans as you find and assemble a fleet. The possibility of one of them turning on you always stands.
If youâre mutant you gain the ability to capsize yourself and view things under water. This is how you find ultimate monster.
If youâre human you can explore small abandoned docks and islands. These are where you find portals leading to different time periods and countries. You deliver members of your party to these. Only the person who originally belongs there can go through it.
Possible end game situations.
You find the portal leading back to your world, where you wake up on the river bank. You can catch normal fish before going home, making sure they are all free of mutations (they might not be.)
You join the monster, eventually overtaking it. You gain the ability to open time portals near water. You use lures to draw in humans.
I canât think of anymore endings right now, I may have ruined the game with these new details so feel free to just enjoy the first part.
Terrible concept art. Mini game idea. Compete with members of your party to catch the most fucked up fish. Points awarded based on how many extra body parts it has and if it communicates telepathically with you.
Added my No-Romo posts to this because I feel they are the most important additions. (I am not a writer or game designer or really capable of making anything so this idea is just wishful thinking at best.)
Concept art if it was a more stylized, cute game. You would be able to customize your character and your boat. Sorry this became so big Iâm tagging it with itâs working title âLureâ for now. I legit expect nothing at all to come from this, I just like to design and concept out things a bit.
The ultimate ending to the game would be to ignore all plot points and just keep fishing. Meet a person? Tell them youâre not interested in working with them. Feel like youâre getting close to a boss monster? Turn the boat a different direction. Just keep catching and cataloging the fish until you run out of room in your journal. After that the sky opens up and sucks you into it. You wake up exactly where the game started but the first page of your journal now says âYOU DID A REEL GOOD JOB!â And thatâs the ending I would shoot for.
More shitty concept art! Iâm done now. Anything else pertaining to this will have itâs own post. (I ruined it after the first post, I know I did.)

I NEED THIS GAME
do you ever get incandescently furious about how utterly unquotable some of the most hard-hitting lines from the magnus archives are. how the fuck do i explain to someone without context why iâopenâthe door is legitimately horrifying. how am i supposed to explain why âi see you, jon. âŚi see youâ can elicit tears without sounding batshit. how do i convey the unspeakable emotion in âhelen⌠was that a lie?â without first giving 186 episodes of backstory
Okay so me n the group chat couldnât find a good OCtober prompt list so we made one!! If anyone wants to have a go at these have at thee

Mechtober Day 9: HNOC/Favourite Headcanon
I saw this post by @alrightcampers1 about the idea of Raphaella being a mechanised Icarus and I loved it so much that I absolutely had to draw it for this prompt.
A murder mystery where every character believes themselves to be responsible for the death, and tries their best to cover it up.
The real kicker is that the guy died from natural causes.

Hey hi how are ya. I drew another dress up game.
Itâs made with meiker.io, (which has a move tool now that Iâm really happy about), its called dress up, schmess up and you can play it here! Iâm bad at coming up with names ok..
This is the largest meiker game Iâve ever drawn and I worked real hard on the layering on this one, it was A Lot. No real theme here, just modern fashion stuff, just wanted to draw what I felt like without worrying about it too much.
Also, now for the price of a single kofi you can purchase my eternal love and devotion! But seriously if you like these type of games, and youâd like to see me make more of them, it would mean a ton to me if you feel like doing that. (I mean..i will make more anyway..butâŚu knoâŚ)
If ya wanna tag me in stuff you made with this game Iâd love to see it :)
someone recommend me some good fantasy books that arenât centred on a war, please, my crops are dying
The Greta Helsing novels by Vivian Shaw - practical doctor to the undead defeats mildly ominous interdimensional threats with the aid of domestic vampires and a demon accountant.
Sunshine by Robin McKinley - practical baker is captured by vampires, escapes, reluctantly teams up with better vampire to kill the bad one.
Howlâs Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - young hat maker ages 60 years overnight, proceeds to upend the life of a disaster wizard while learning self-confidence.
the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett - hard to encapsulate, but equally funny and hard-hitting, tackling race and gender and corruption and other forms of inequality while also, like, making fun of post offices and Hollywood and Shakespeare. Three or four tackle war, true, but thereâs something like 35 others to choose from.
the Accidental Turn series by J.M. Frey - recent Ph.D of colour lands in the Fantasyland⢠she did her thesis on, goes off about agency and diversity while recovering from the Dark Lordâs attentions and learning the truth about her fictional crush.
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire - evil alchemist creates superpowered children to assist world takeover; children just want to be a family; family is complicated.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik - young woman takes over family business, must outwit fairies with a love of gold.
the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede - princess runs away to become a dragonâs housekeeper, fights off rescuers, solves problems large and small, melts wizards.
the October Daye novels by Seanan Mcguire - Half-fae detective solves murders, finds missing persons, develops found family, canât stop self from upending the social order.
The Golem and the Djinni by Helene Wecker - A quiet golem, a tempestuous djinn, Gilded Age New York. Immigrants, identity, friendship, hope, and self-discovery.
An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard - A witch from an outsider House enters New Yorkâs magical Hunger Games, to prove a point. The problems of magic were not intended.
Zoo City by Lauren Beukes - Part-time con artist gets hired to find two missing pop stars, with the help of the magical sloth on her back. Noir ensues.
Child of a Hidden Sea by A.M. Dellamonica - Nature photographer lands on water-world, discovers lost family, tries to convince self magic is impossible.
Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips - Greek gods, washed up in North London, curse Apollo to fall for the cleaner. Existential crisis, meet rom-com.
Among Others by Jo Walton - Loner teen sent to boarding school, discovers science fiction, might know fairies and do magic.
Tooth and Claw by Jo Walton - Austenesque story except all the characters are dragons.
Every Heart a Doorway (and sequels) by Seanan McGuire - the children of portal fantasy end up in boarding school coping with being kicked out of their various worlds, then some of them start getting murdered.Â
The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan - the world is flooded, thereâs a lady who works with a bear at a circus that sails to different places to perform, and a lady who is sort of an undertaker, and they fall in love
Lud-in-the-Mist by Hope Mirrlees - there are fairies but no one talks about them anymore because Thatâs Just Not How We Are except this state of affairs cannot possibly last and people start getting lured to fairyland
The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison - fifth son of emperor whoâs lived his whole life away from court abruptly becomes emperor when his father and older brothers are killed in an accident, spends entire book trying to make friends and figure how the fuck to do a) confidence and b) ruling ethically
The Various by Steven Augarde - girl spends summer at uncleâs farm, finds the group of âvariousâ (no direct parallel, but think somewhere between gnomes and pixies) that live in the woods, mysterious history, flying horse, The Cat Is Evil (this is technically middle grade but itâs so good I canât even)
Turning Darkness Into Light by Marie Brennan - working on the translation of an ancient text is complicated when it might have a huge impact on the public perception of a highly stigmatised group; subterfuge, found family, mythology, and the rejection of men who steal other peopleâs work.Â
So You Want to Be a Wizard or Stealing the Elf-Kingâs Roses by Diane Duane. Â
Tam Lin, Juniper Gentian and Rosemary, and The Secret Country by Pamela Dean (all different stories). Â
The Spellkey by Ann Downer. Â
Swordheart or Summer in Orcus by T. Kingfisher. Â
The Curse of Chalion or the Penric series by Lois McMaster Bujold.
Green Year Dragonfly by Kaye Bellot. Â
If by âno warâ you mean âno or not focused on violenceâ:
The Terrier/Bloodhound/Mastiff series by Tamora Pierce Teenage former street rat aspires to and joins law enforcement in pseudo-medieval fantasy land, proves to have moral code forged of adamantium and more determination than an entire battalion. Also talks to unquiet ghosts carried by pigeons.
the Winding Circle books by Tamora Pierce (with the exception of Battle Magic) Four teenagers are snatched from the jaws of peril, discover they have incredibly strong yet overlooked magical powers, slowly become a found family, survive an earthquake, pirates, forest fires, plague, and puberty.
The Keeper Chronicles, by Tanya Huff Magic user accidentally gets roped into running a boarding house in Toronto. The decor is from the 50s, the handyman is an incredibly handsome and pureminded myopic Newfoundlander, and there is a (literal) portal to Hell in the basement. The third book adds lesbians and a mall that eats street kids to the mix. (Enchantment Emporium and its sequels are in the same world btw)
ââââââââââââââââââââââ
If by âno warâ you legitimately just mean that war is not the driving plot force:
the Hawk and Fisher books by Simon R Green Fairytale-destined prince and princess decide that destiny is bullshit, ditch their kindgoms, become the only honest pseudo-cops in fantasy-Gotham because strangely being a prince/princess doesnât actually give you life skills that are not applicable to being a mercenary. Buildings eat people, gods are murdered, street drugs turn people into animals, Hawk and Fisher are so very tired.
Oath of Swords and its sequels, by David Weber
Guy from a species generally (unfairly) derided by âcivilized peopleâ as barbaric and evil thinks heâs going mad, but actually heâs been chosen as paladin by a god and heâs just stubbornly refusing to listen. Continues to go off and do heroic shit while doing the equivalent of jamming his fingers in his ears and saying âLA LA LAâ. This does absolutely nothing to dissuade the god in question.
The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner A thiefâs prison sentence is cut short when he is sent on a mission to steal an important (and magical?) object for the King. BIG plot twist at the end. Imagine going on a fun road trip through the fantasy pseudo-Byzantine Empire, except that all your fellow travelers have their own secret agendas.
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, by Catherine Webb In this universe, there are a handful of time travelers â people who are forced to live the same life over and over, retaining their memories with each rebirth. As Harry nears the end of his eleventh life, a little girl appears at his bedside with the following message: the end of the world is getting faster.
Dark Lord of Derkholm, by Diana Wynne Jones The citizens of a fantasy world are getting really tired of being overrun by non-magical tourists from our world. This year, the role of Evil Wizard falls to Derk, who wants nothing more than to be left in peace on his farm/magical genetic engineering laboratory. Derkâs 2 human children, 5 griffin children, and 1 enchantress wife feel much the same. Wouldnât it be a shame if someone were to sabotage this planetâs shitty contract once and for all?Â
(For personal records)
The Athena Club series, by Theodora Goss Daughters and/or female creations of mad scientists from 19th-century literature team up to figure out what their âfathersâ were up to and what, exactly, the secret society that seems to control all such experiments intends to do next. Sort of an all-female League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in the best way. Kind of an odd frame narrative, but you get used to it pretty quickly.

i think we, as a culture, have moved too far away from fantasy films where every plot thread is like âthe dragon rider and the werewolf joined a crew of sky pirates and hit a storm of cloud-eels but luckily they were saved by a friendly pod of star whalesâ or whatever the fuck was going on with movies like stardust and time bandits . itâs doesnât necessarily make a good film but i feel like thereâs something deep in our lizard brains that craves stories entirely made up of weird bullshitÂ
anyone who told you much ado about nothing is good and worth watching was RIGHT and you should listen to them
In Much Ado About Nothing, Beatrice and Benedick are adamant in their mutual dislike, while Claudio and Hero are deep in love, and the two s
