Its another Friday. Who made it?
We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.
"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.
It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.
As lovelyshananigans says, "intersectionality, babes"
WHY YOU SHOULD WRITE HORRIBLY:
1. You’ll never write anything if you don’t

Something nobody prepares you for is that the better you get at writing the harder it becomes. beginners write freely because they don't know enough to know what's wrong. then you learn. and suddenly you can see every single flaw in real time as you're making it and you have to write anyway while your own brain is in the corner going "that's a weak verb. that transition is lazy. you've used that word three times." getting good at this is mostly just getting better at ignoring yourself.
Sometimes I have to do the thing where you set a timer -- ten minutes is about the max in my experience -- and while it's running you have to keep writing and you cannot stop and you cannot pause and you cannot edit you just have to keep putting words down one after the other.
It's surprisingly hard but sometimes you gotta pull out the big guns.
This is most definitely true of drawing and/or painting as well. Like you just gotta keep doing it. Sometimes the perspective is wrong, or the scaling, or that one curve is to deep, or not deep enough, or whatever it is, and you just got to keep doing it. When I was in drawing and painting classes in college, some of my favorite days where when the professor set up a still life in the set a timer and was like, you have 10 minutes, or 5 minutes, or an hour.
One of my favorite paintings I did in college was this one where we were set up in a circle around a still life, and our professor would give us like, 5 minutes to paint, and then move us to a completely different point in the circle so our perspective kept changing. Our paintings were never going to look like the still life, and to embrace that was true artistic freedom.
The painting I did that class. 4 years later and I still love this painting
