ꜱᴜᴍᴍᴀʀʏ: Second chances are dangerous. They ask you to trust the same person who taught you what heartbreak feels like. Also based on this ramble of mine.
ᴀ/ɴ: One ramble later and here we are yet again hehehee. Honestly my merder heart had so much fun writing this, but also my 1D heart to hehehehe, (If you couldn0t tell by the title) this is inspired by 'Where Do Broken Hearts Go', that song just holds a special place in my heart. Also should I start a taglist???
The sky had turned pitch black, stars shining as you looked at them, the cold air making your skin cold to the touch. All of it as you stood there watching Michael step out of his fancy shiny car with Bill still inside, who offered a ‘hello’ with a gesture of his right hand. To which, of course, you reciprocated eyes glued on Michael a cold stare could be seen in your eyes.
You knew why he was here, he wanted to apologize. He wanted something more out of you… to which you were sure you were gonna say no to. But a tiny part of you faltered, that tiny part of you wanted him so badly back into your arms. But really he was the first one to deny you of such privilege the moment he had decided to go to her. Diana Ross.
It even wasn’t a competition in your eyes because she was the only right decision in his heart. They had almost everything, they had history, they had chemistry, they had love. The only thing lacking there was the fact that she didn’t choose him back, only toyed with him when she was bored, alone, or jealous. So the moment you appeared in the picture the ugly green monster had taken over her and took what you believed was yours in the start to what you realize now it never really was.
As you looked at Michael leaning against his car door all you could think was ‘how much more of you was he gonna take?’
“You know why I’m here…” He said looking at you with those eyes that had you hypnotized from the moment you met him. “If you want me on my knees, I’ll get on my knees. You want me to leave, I wil,l not before asking you to hear me out. You want me to beg, I’ll beg. Anything but please…”
You couldn't even bear to look at him so you started to walk away from Michael as you looked over to the streets of L.A. Yet no words came out of you, but you knew you had something left in you that you hadn’t said to him. Thus you turned slightly, “so what was I to you?” You asked him as you were completely facing him a few meters of distance between you both. The frown on you started to form so softly barely noticeable to the naked eye but Michael saw it in your face. He knew it carried the pain he had made you endure the last few days and the sadness that came with his actions and decisions. “The girl you screwed to get over being screwed?” The question flew out of your mouth and you didn’t regret it at all, you needed to know so that you could keep some part of your sanctity intact since you couldn't get your pride back.
“You were like coming up for fresh air.” Michael looked at you as he kept on leaning on his car with Bill inside. The look in his eyes almost killed you and the distance between the two of you even more because it was his choice. “It was like I was drowning and you saved me.” The frown on your face became even more visible to the view as you tilted your head slightly. Michael could read every microexpression on you, he knew the effect his words had on you and still he didn’t regret saying them. “It ’s all I know.” You nodded to his words keeping every thought and feeling inside of you, you didn’t want him to see you even more vulnerable than how he has now.
You took a deep breath as you looked Michael in the eye, no words coming out of your mouth and at that moment Michael felt the tension that started to grow inside of you.
“That 's cruel.” You nodded while you closed your eyes for a brief moment looking at the pavement in front of you.
Everything in Michael went still because there was no argument to that, because it was the ugly truth. He was being cruel and selfish. He came back expecting that something so simple as begging would get you back. His idiocy surprised him immensely. He just hadn’t realized at the moment that you were the key to his heart, his everything. Thus the moment Diana came to him running back out of jealousy he decided to give it an opportunity. He couldn’t blame no one for his choices and decision making because the same thing that got him at the top of the music industry is what made him lose the most important thing in his life, his muse, the love of his life.
“Then why did you?” the words left your mouth barely a whisper as you took a step back slowly, as if you did it slowly you would be able to make him go away. For a second Michael froze, not because he didn’t hear you, he did just perfectly. He froze because he didn’t expect the question and because the answer wasn’t something he was ready to admit. “Because I thought she was the love of my life.” Michael whispered as he pushed himself off the car looking at the pavement.
“And when I realized I was wrong… you were already gone.” Michael looked up and he noticed how you had stopped all your movements to move away from him and everything that surrounded you in the moment. He observed how your eyes had turned slightly red, the way your head moved with the night breeze, how your arms wrapped around yourself for comfort, and the way your mouth slowly parted but no words came out of it. At that he took a step closer to you and when you didn’t move he took another step. Then another. And another, Until he was mere inches away from you.
“I was wrong.” The words came out as little more than a whisper. Blinking as you looked into Michael's brown doe eyes, tears began to gather in them. You swallowed hard trying to maintain the facade that had already been taken by the man in front of you. The moment your breath mingled with his, Michael let out his next words carefully. “I don’t want to keep on being wrong,” The words barely rose above a whisper. “Let me… please.” The plea escaped his lips as he closed his eyes, softly winking away the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes.
The frown that started to form in your forehead started to mix with every little feature on your face as you tried to keep everything inside of you. “You don’t get to do that.” That statement made Michael frown. “Do what?” You scoffed bitterly as the heaviness in your chest started to grow every second now. “You don’t get to come here and… and say all of this and actually expect…” You said as you took three steps back, whipping your face aggressively with the back of your hand. “You don't get to tell me I was the love of your life after you chose her.”
Michael looked at you surprised by the sudden change in you, he wanted to shorten the distance but stayed glued to the pavement. “Yes” His answer was almost immediate, because why would he deny something that was true? There was no point, he knew he wasn’t gonna get you back by lying to you. “I did.”
“What am I supposed to do with that? Huh?” Pointing your finger at Michael as you looked at him the tears started to fall quietly, not because you were but because you were furious. The more you looked at him the angrier you got because he looked genuinely sorry, he was being honest with you. You wanted to hate him so badly that you couldn’t and you hated it.
“And the worst part of it all is that I can’t even hate you to begin with?” You placed your hand over your eyes trying to keep the little composure and pride left in you. Failing to notice how the tears started to flow silently through Micahel’s cheeks.
In the midst of it all Michael understood how you felt, it wasn’t fair to you. It wasn’t fair what he was doing, but he was a selfish man. How much more selfish can he be? He wanted you despite the fact he had ruined it for himself.
“I hate that I still love you”
“...I know, let me right my wrong… let me start over…”
The reader right before Michael chose Diana, damn…
