The RCMP underwater recovery team conducted several water-based searches in the area on Thursday and will continue to do so on Friday.
[Transcript: (Posted April 22, 2022) This little boys name is Frank and he is missing. He is five years old and he's from Red Earth Cree Nation in Saskatchewan.

Once again John Oliver proves that you can do anything with money and lawyers
Oliver then proceeded to detail how with $50 and knowledge of the law he was able to successfully apply online to create a debt buying company named āCentral Asset Recovery Professionals,ā or as Oliver put it, āCARPā named after āa bottom-feeding fish.ā
After setting up a rudimentary website for CARP, the satirical, but still real company was offered a $15 million package of medical debt for $60,000.
Oliver explained that the debt was out of statute, which means it is the kind of debt that a collector can only continue to collect, but not sue the debtor for.
Then, instead of chasing down the 9,000 debtors in the debt package as a normal collection agency would, Oliver decided to stage the largest one-time giveaway in television history and work with the nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to forgive the $15 million with no consequences for the debtors.
Okay but now I know what I want to do of I get rich?
You dont have to be rich to do a bit of this actually
RIP Medical Debt is a charity (and therefore takes donations). They buy the rights to medical debt and then forgive them. So far theyāve forgiven over 1B in medical debt.
So a little ray of hope for someone out there today.
Donating $10 buys $1,000 of medical debt. This is real, it works, and weāve done it ourselves. You can too.
They were the ones who absolved all of my medical debt from when i was raped and went in afterwards. they are absolute saints. spread this, folks!!

Help bring Indigenous horses home!
Hi all!
My friend is Ojibwe and a dedicated Indigenous researcher and activist. She recently has discovered a number of Ojibwe ponies (also known as the Lac La Croix pony) for sale by a white-owned farm.Ā
This is really important because these ponies are very important to the Ojibwe ā these ponies are also the only known Indigenous-developed breed of horse in Canada, and there are only 200 left in the world.Ā
[Image: A girl sitting on an Ojibwe pony and hugging its neck. Image credit to Broadview.]
The fact that there are 200 left at all is incredible at all, because in 1977, Canada took the last known four ponies away to be destroyed, and they were rescued by an Ojibwe man living in Minnesota.Ā
Read more about the history here.
My friend is arranging to have five of these horses brought back home to the Ojibwe, and her elders are already planning a welcome ceremony for these horses. If anyone has anything to spare, it would be a huge help to bring them home.Ā
Donate here!
Alternately, you can get the horses a gift from their wishlist!Ā
i wish i wasnāt so broke, please spread for those that are able to contributeš

I have been a sheep caretaker for like two days and already I'm like. Wow. I get it.
I get why these were some of the earliest mammals to ever be domesticated. They look up to humans with this sort of dumb but all at once innocent and pure and trusting expression. They're happy to see you. They follow you around. They like to be rubbed under their chins. Maybe its just some latent Scottish highland shepherd DNA I still have in me but I look at my sheep charges and suddenly I see why the love of God for humanity is so often described as a shepherd and his sheep. I'd fight a wolf for these guys. I'd go way the Hell out of my way for them. I'd carry their young for miles on my own back.
I feel this way about the dogs at the daycare/boarding place i work at.
like itās so deep and primal. iāve never seen it in words until now

āAn analysis by Front Line Defenders and the Human Rights Defenders Memorial recorded at least 358 murders of human rights activists globally in 2021.
Of that total, nearly 60% were land, environment or Indigenous rights defenders.
The countries with the highest death tolls were Colombia, Mexico and Brazil.
Advocates say the figure is likely far higher, as attacks on land and environment defenders in Africa often go unreported.ā
Itās worse than it looks at first glance. About the news of the āNo Indiansā policy at a Rapid City hotel and the subsequent eviction notice served by local Lakota people: I donāt think that local/national media outlets have been direct enough in pointing out just how insulting an anti-Native policy is in Rapid City specifically, given how much it profits off of white tourism and a history of Native dispossession.
This is the place where the revered Native landmark of Six Grandfathers was destroyed to create Mount Rushmore, officially a monument to the dominion and power of the US, and unofficially a monument to US āvictoryā over Indigenous people.
But thatās not all.
So, the owner of a hotel in Rapid City, in March 2022, posted on social media, saying that she would ban Natives from her property. In response, local Native people have rallied, marched, and posted an āeviction noticeā banner on signage at her hotel. Technically, the leaders of five Native communities/reservations signed a formal Notice of Trespass, issued to the hotel owner, indicating that the owner violated the terms of the 1868 Fort Laramie treaty. This Notice of Trespass was signed by leaders of Oglala Lakota, Rosebud Sioux, Standing Rock Sioux, Crow Creek, and Cheyenne River communities/reservations.
And Rapid City?
Rapid City is functionally/de facto the only sizable, significant US urban area in a vast area across the northern Great Plains. Along with, like, maybe Billings, it is one of the only āmajorā metro areas in the hundreds and hundreds of miles between Minneapolis to the east and Denver to the west, or between Omaha/Kansas City to the east and Boise, Spokane, and Salt Lake City to the west.
How much money has Rapid City earned for white US settlers and entrepreneurs?
Rapid City is the city primarily servicing travel, tourism, business, etc., for these famous sites: āMount Rushmoreā, Devilās Tower, historic Deadwood, the Sturgis bike rally, the Black Hills and Black Hills National Forest, Oglala National Grassland, Thunder Basin National Grassland, Nebraska National Forest, Wind Cave National Park, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and Badlands National Park. Rapid City is one of the only āmajorā cities functioning as a stopover for highway travelers between the Midwest and Billings, Yellowstone National Park, and the Rockies.
The Sturgis bike rally is held about 25 miles away from Rapid City. In 2021, attendance at the rally was estimated at 550,000 visitors. In 2015, there were 750,000 visitors. Each year, the rally directly earns between $1.5 and $2.5 million in tax revenue from temporary vendors alone. But thatās a fraction. This revenue doesnāt include the vast sums of money spent on camping, hotels, restaurants, and attendeesā likely additional visits to the areaās national parks/forests.
And thatās just the bike rally. Imagine the visitors that sites like Badlands National Park and Black Hills National Forest attract.
Thatās an awful lot of tourist money.
How closely tied is Rapid City to a legacy of Indigneous dispossession?
In early 2019, residents at Pine Ridge were trapped by incredible springtime flooding; access to healthcare and grocery stores was interrupted or impossible. Immediately afterward, in 2019, the South Dakota governor, Kristi Noem, strongly and repeatedly advocated for the passing of statewide anti-protesting legislation meant to target Native organizers and criminalize protest against the installation of the Keystone XL pipeline and other fossil fuel projects in the region. (Keystone XL would pass through both Pine Ridge and Rosebud Sioux areas.)
In 2019, Oglala Lakota leadership voted unanimously to ban Governor Noem from Pine Ridge Reservation over the issue.
Even though the state did pass the anti-protesting legislation, a judge struck it down in October 2019. In December 2019, the South Dakota Water Management Board continued to discuss/allow issuing water access permits to the Keystone pipeline developers. In January 2020, several Lakota communities refused to attend or participate in South Dakotaās formal āState of the Tribesā event hosted by the governor, and instead held their own āGreat Sioux Nation Addressā. In February 2020, the South Dakota state legislature ended up passing a newer version of the draconian anti-protesting legislation.
Pine Ridge reservation is right next-door to Rapid City.
Pine Ridge is the site of Shannon County, occasionally cited as āthe poorest or second poorest county in the US.ā Nearby Oglala Lakota County is also cited as one of the poorest counties in the US. For many years in the 1990s/2000s, the US county with the lowest median household income was Buffalo County, also in South Dakota and home to the Crow Creek Reservation.
The Wounded Knee Massacre, often cited in settler-colonial textbooks as the event which ended the so-called Indian Wars and ushered in āthe closing of the frontierā, took place on 29 December 1890 on land now within Pine Ridge.
Is the US assault against the Lakota really over?
The frowning faces of four US presidents sit chiseled in stone atop Six Grandfathers, glaring down upon the Black Hills.
If you arenāt Native, it would be great if you could read and research and reblog this. Weāre so often invisible and big media will not cover these events.
what weāve done to the indigenous people of this land is obscene
*are still doing. And yes.
I did a little digging and found some articles on this:
The comments by Connie Uhre, 76, led to a protest, widespread condemnation by city leaders and a federal civil rights lawsuit.
Red Elk Zephier, the hotel manager, said the entire staff at the hotel bar and some hotel workers quit over the proposed ban.
She also wrote that she 'canāt tell who is a bad Native or a good Native.ā A hotel owner in Rapid City took her frustration to social medi
