imagine being on your lunch break, and your supervisor comes over to your table, tells you to stand up in front of everyone. they draw everyone's attention to your thighs. they tell you that you have broken the dress code because of the length of your shorts. they tell you to go change (so you do not get the rest of your lunch break). they do this every single day at lunch. every day. so you read the whole dress code front and back, and you choose your clothing carefully to not break it. you bring a cloth tape measure with you to work because they will not believe you. this time when your supervisor tells you that you're breaking dress code, you pull out your tape measure and show that you are within the limit. your supervisor says "I bet you wouldn't want me to bring you to the boss and let him measure it, would you?" it's clearly a threat: if you don't obey then you will be put alone in a room with your boss and he will touch your thighs. you don't know how to respond. you're taken out of lunch again.

Every step of the way, from fighting against global warming to buying more canadairs to raising more funds and awareness amongst the population as to what might start a fire : it was all completely preventable.

At every single fucking check the government failed to put the most basic protections into place so that it wouldn't happen, and now that it's happening they still fail to fight against it.

This is the real "insecurity", the knowledge that the people in power would rather send the cops after the firefighters who dared to ask for the means to do their job instead of taking any of our concerns seriously and actually protecting us as is their duty.

There is no democracy if its people are burning.

La police française fait très bien son travail. Son devoir n’a jamais été de protéger la population, elle a été créée spécifiquement pour maintenir l’ordre entre les classes sociales. Elle n’a toujours été rien d’autre que la milice personnelle des riches et des bourgeois. Quand la police tire avec allégresse sur des manifestants, quand elle empêche des secouristes de venir en aide aux manifestants blessés, quand elle tue des personnes racisées dans les quartiers et les banlieues, elle ne fait qu’accomplir la mission qui lui a été confiée par les élites.

Il n’y a pas de démocratie dans une pays gouverné par la terreur et la surveillance de masse. Il n’y a pas de démocratie dans un pays qui refuse de mettre les moyens nécessaires pour protéger sa population de la précarité et de la rue, des violences systémiques, de la désertion médicale, de la dégradation du système éducatif, du dérèglement climatique et de toutes les catastrophes naturelles qu’il engendre.

Il n’y a pas de démocratie dans un pays dont le gouvernement a constamment recours aux manœuvres les plus antidémocratiques qui soient pour faire passer ses lois abjectes, dangereuses et étroitement liées avec les idéologies d’extrême-droite.

Cet été, le gouvernement a fait passer des lois pour restreindre la liberté d’expression sur Internet, pour permettre à la police de tuer encore plus légalement qu’avant, pour tuer les malades et les handicapés après les avoir complètement vidé du moindre sou qu’il pouvait leur rester. Et pendant ce temps-là, on se retrouve contraint de devoir regarder notre pays partir littéralement en fumée.

The French police do their job very well. Their duty was never to protect the population, they were specifically created to maintain the social order. It’s never been anything more than the upper classes and rich people’s personal militia.
