we have to write poems in my creative writing certificate program, so I pieced something together from Belphie's medical reports
my professor really liked this and said that it should be 'the nucleus of a chapbook' (so like 15-30 poems of the same theme that I would attempt to get published) but now I feel awkward because I think that she thinks HE DIED? but it turns out, everything will be alright! his heart recovered! the FIP meds are working!
if I do make a chapbook, this will be the next page:
and then this will be the page after that:
I couldn't believe how fast he went from death's door to running and playing once we got the GS441525 into him. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who's spent their time researching and legislating it!!
Belphie is over two years old now, and sometimes when I look at him, I still think he lived.

Hello! I hope you are doing well.
The Scottish Greens are currently gathering support to protest an AI data centre being built in Fife (it could use more than 20% of Scotland's annual energy usage), and I am hoping you would be willing to share the link to their page?
This should take you to where you can sign: https://greens.scot/stopfifeaidatacentre
As a heads up, in the email text section of the form at the bottom it is structured in a way where a name for signature is expected.
Thank you!

Idk if you saw but it popped up on Twitter for me, but apparently the US senate just voted to pass a bill to merge the US and Israeli armies???
Think itβs βenhanced cooperationβ rather than a merge which would be insane although can imagine a lot of politicians wanting it to happen.
And it was the House of Representatives rather than the Senate as far as I can see.
Bill to fund war on Iran and a handful of Trump priorities passes largely along party lines, faces Senate uncertainty.
Remember though, thereβs definitely no money for teachers, textbooks, housing, healthcare, nurses, railways etc
On this day, 23 July 1944, 19-year-old French communist resistance fighter Madeleine Riffaud saw a German military officer taking a walk over a bridge on the river Seine in Paris and got off her bicycle. As he looked at the Louvre, she took out her gun and shot him twice in the head, killing him. As she cycled away, she was pursued and knocked off her bike by French collaborators in a car. Riffaud tried to shoot herself to avoid torture but was captured and handed over to the Nazi SS. She was beaten repeatedly, escaped but was recaptured and deported to a concentration camp. There, she was released in a prisoner swap, and took part in the armed uprising which liberated the city in August. She later recounted to Agence France-Presse in an interview, βIt was joyousβ¦ People were falling in love and kissing each other without knowing each other. After years of having to do everything in secret, we could fight in the open.β Riffaud survived the war and later became a journalist, supporting and reporting on anti-colonial rebellions in Algeria and Vietnam. She eventually passed away in 2024, at the age of 100. Learn more about resistance to the Nazis in episodes 63, 64, 72, and 77-80 of our podcast. My naem is Bread And wen I dreem I do not think Of milk and creem For just one thing I wheek and screem Beloved leefs I crunch the green
i hate when people ask me really deep-cut hyper-nuanced wibbly-wobbly impossible-to-answer questions about dc canon, such as "how old are the characters supposed to be"
wanna be clear too this isnt even about characters like bart or kon who have complicated ages due to speedster stuff/cloning/whatever. like yeah ok those are objectively weird situations but BECAUSE they're weird the comics do at least tend to clearly spell out whats going on. both impulse 95 and yj98 clearly spell out multiple times that bart is chronologically 3 but physically/mentally 15 because his speeding accelerated his age and he was raised in vr. ok makes sense. now explain to me how the fuck old tim drake is supposed to be in current canon
(@sentient-stove) ok you know what. dc's infamous lack of age continuity leading to the implication that 17 year old tim drake snuck into a bar with his boyfriend so they could illegally drink together is actually fantastic specifically because every single part of that sentence would make chuck dixon physically explode with rage

So every year, my aquarium does a captive lobster hatchery project (hence all the loblings). The reason weβre doing it is because in the wild, loblings only have a 1 in 25,000 chance of surviving their larval phase. Theyβre plankton as babies and everything eats them. Additionally, as the Gulf of Maine warms, they are having even lower survival rates because the blooms of copepods they feed on as babies are happening earlier in the year, and theyβre missing it.
Obviously, the goal of this experiment is to grow the lobsters until theyβre big enough to settle to the seabed and then release them, because they have a much higher likelihood of surviving to adulthood when theyβre able to hide. Ideally, captive lobster hatcheries can boost the wild population and keep things stable, so we donβt have a major crash in a decade or two.
The first year we tried this was pretty bad. We had a lot of eggs, but very few babies. It turned out that the CO2 levels in the building spiked as more guests visited throughout the summer, and that settled into the water and threw off the pH and caused a chemical reaction that prevented a lot of the eggs from hatching. I think we ended up releasing three baby lobsters (which is still better than their wild survival rate but not great).
The second year was a little better. We added a de-gasser to the aquarium and got a ton of larval lobsters, but right as they were settling to the bottom we had a disease outbreak that killed most of them. We ended up releasing four babies at the end of the season.
But this year? Oh boy. We have so many lobsters that we had to release the first round early (usually we wait till September or October so guests can see them). We just released a total of FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE baby lobsters, and we still have over a hundred who havenβt settled to the bottom yet. I genuinely donβt even have words to explain how cool this is. OVER FIVE HUNDRED. We just added hundreds of lobsters to the wild population that wouldnβt have been there otherwise.
Conservation is so fucken sick
