Let’s talk about ADHD "Waiting Mode"
You have an appointment at 3:00 PM. It’s currently 9:00 AM.
You cannot do anything else today. You can’t work on your passion project, you can’t clean your room, you can’t start a new task. You must just sit and wait for the 3:00 PM appointment, because your brain has categorized the rest of the day as "Booked."
And then, when 3:00 PM finally arrives, you are completely exhausted from doing absolutely nothing.
If you do this, you’re not lazy! Your brain is just trying to manage its executive function by holding onto a single anchor point for the day so it doesn't lose track of time.
What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve "Waiting Mode"d for recently? (Mine was waiting 4 hours for a package that required a signature. 📦🫠)
If you’re tired of your whole day being held hostage by a single task, I’m an ADHD accountability coach and I can help. We can body-double to break the spell, or just talk through gentle ways to re-claim your day. My DMs are open! No tough-love, ever. 💛
