hey if you're not a mobility aid user, and you want a simple way to make public spaces more accessible to those of us who are, i have a tip for you:
push in your chairs when you get up from tables.
when people don't push in their chairs, people with bulky aids like wheelchairs and rollators can't get through. also a lot of people who use canes have wider gaits than able bodied people, and having a chair in the middle of their walking path is a real obstruction. while some of us are able to push chairs out of our way, a lot of us are not, and wind up boxed in/out because somebody didn't push in their chair.
so if you want to do something simple that can make a big difference in terms of like. navigating an outdoor food court or a cafe or what have you. push in your chairs.

Should we keep Daylight Saving Time (a.k.a. Daylight Savings Time)?
Since most people in the United States just changed their clocks again, it seems like a good time to ask: should we keep doing that? Or should we just pick a time and stick with it?
"Solar noon" is the time when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, halfway between sunrise and sunset. During Standard Time, solar noon happens at approximately 12:00 (clock noon). During Daylight Saving Time, solar noon happens at approximately 1:00.
(I say "approximately" because the exact time depends how far east or west you are in your time zone.)
Hawaiʻi and (most of) Arizona have already switched to permanent Standard Time. Should the entire country do the same, or switch to permanent Daylight Saving Time, or continue switching between them two times per year?

We should use permanent Standard Time (solar noon ≈ 12:00)

To anyone who needs to hear this, my aunt called my mom last year in tears and, as she talked about how things are going, she admitted that she didn’t know she could be so happy, and she didn’t know how good life could be.
She is 72. After a very rough go of things, she is now with someone who cherishes her (met him three years ago!), goes on bucket-list road trips multiple times a year, founded two nonprofits to help people who have been through similar struggles, and feels fulfilled.
30 isn’t too late. Neither is 40, nor 50, nor even 70.
