re: cultural nostalgia in false memory i think it's pretty pertinent that guan chao clearly lives in The Boonies now — hongpai port doesn't have a towering, pristine skyline like the city that guan chao worked in (and burned out in) does; we get a brief TV announcement about how hongpai port is trying to preserve its way of life while investing more in its small businesses; he's holed up in a cramped self-constructed shack on top of a relatively small apartment complex (esp where e. asia is concerned). the rapid, highly compressed industrialization of certain regions of asia a la the four asian tigers through the 60s-90s + china's economic boom circa beijing olympics creates ripe grounds for this type of nostalgia, as industrialization exerts enormous social pressure and rapidly introduces new stressors — and guan chao seems like an obvious casualty, but he's in hongpai port specifically to search for the burning stone (as is the GAO) — which implies that k7 (who i suspect is guan chao) is the original casualty, who chose this place first... i feel like there has to be some kind of sentimental value for hongpai port to be the place where k7 hid the burning stone, but not sure what that is at the moment

Funny how you can go anywhere online and find people claiming Hasan Piker is actually bought off by the Chinese government when he's hardly even a leftist and putting almost zero effort into trying to be one. If the Chinese government were paying people off to spout dirty communist rhetoric, they could do a lot better than that guy
