please do not ever forget that the “americas” are stolen land. that we survive despite genocide. that we still exist despite continuing colonialism. solidarity with indigenous people around the world.
“Wherever you come from in this country, whatever land you stand on, you are on stolen land. This land was never given to what is now called the United States of America. This is a false government that is on this land. There are over 700 sovereign nations that live here– that were here before– that had names for these places, that had their own language and spirituality.”
— Corrina Gould, spokesperson for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan/Ohlone (via hexenmeisterer)

You ever been in a room full of very smart, successful, influential Elders and they say nice/approving things about the work you're doing? Few things will ever make you feel as useful or encouraged.

This is why we keep talking about racism. This is why we take racist behavior from creators and public figures seriously, past and present, because it does not exist in a vacuum. It feeds into a culture that normalizes violence, ignorance, disrespect, and dehumanization toward Black people not only from white people, but from anyone taught to see us as less than.
This was a historic Black cemetery in Florida and people vandalized and destroyed the graves. That level of hatred does not come from nowhere.
So if conversations about racism, accountability, and protecting spaces from people who have shown they are racist or harmful make you uncomfortable, this probably is not the page for you, and that is fine.
Because every single day there is another story. A racist influencer hurting somebody. A Black child being called slurs. A Black family targeted. A graveyard destroyed. Every day Black people are reminded that simply existing can make us a target.
We will still laugh, joke, create, and enjoy ourselves. But when it is time to speak seriously about what is happening to us, we are going to do that too. And if that feels “too political” or “too much” for you, then this space probably is not meant for you.
This post doesn't say it so clarifying in reblogs, but the guy in the last screenshot actually went through with it. He's now facing attempted murder charges but the victim is alive thankfully. I kept saying he was gonna kill somebody eventually. Turns out that when someone makes a career out of going around livestreaming themselves macing random black people in the face while calling them chimps and threatening to shoot them to death it's not a joke. At a point I found myself wondering why he wasn't in jail, but it's Tennessee so it's really no surprise.
I love my family but god its so hard to get them to act like adults for one day.🙄
So I was thinking about more resources to show just how creative and unique Black hair can be in character design, and how much of an art style it really is. Then I remembered something:
Hair Shows and Competitions!
This hair look from the Bronner Bros. International Beauty Show in Atlanta is a true standout, and one to mimick.
Candace Morrow visits the World Natural Hair Show to check out amazing natural hairstyles and products
Colombia’s annual Weaving Hopes festival takes the tradition of intricate braiding styles to another level in its annual celebration.
Dear All,We are thrilled to announce that the second Braid Master Competition was a phenomenal success! Once again, your extraordinary talen
I assume other people have hair shows; I've never really thought about it. But yeah! You'll have to find social media of creators and stylists, but you can find a lot of cool things if you look 👀

July 1, 2021 - Indigenous and anti-colonialist protesters tore down and beheaded the statue of Captain Cook in Victoria, and dumped it in the harbor on Canada day. [video]
do you have any advice or tips on being less anxious about being seen putting up/taking down political stickers? I've gotten better at it, but I still overthink it so much. for reference I also live in the netherlands
To start with a useless platitude: Like with many things, the more you do it, the less scary it gets.
To make sure there's a minimum of people around to see you you could go stickering around dinnertime in the evening, in the morning before or after rush hour, or late at night.
I used the recent train workers strike to sticker on some normally busy train stations. I know some graffiti crews have done the same to put up pieces in normally busy places along the tracks.
To make putting up stickers quicker I usually already remove the backing, and then hide the sticker in my hand, makes the actual sticking very fast and not very obvious.
Go stickering / removing fascist propaganda with a friend or group of friends. Because you are in the Netherlands you could join up with an antifascist Wandelclub (like this one in Utrecht), their thing is going on walks and chatting and having a nice time while putting up antifascist stickers / removing fascist propaganda.
Anyone else have any tips or useful experience for anon?
also, let's be real; it helps to be a little bit drunk and go around late at night/very early in the morning. it's certainly not required, but it does make things easier.
for example earlier this week while on my way to work i saw a few places sporting fascist stickers. Today i watched football and drank beers wtih friends. then when i went home i remembered that there were a bunch of nazi stickers on my way home, so i took them all down, walked around to see if there were more in that area, and replaced them with antifa and palestine stickers.
you can't underestimate the power of being a little bit drunk to make things less scary. My collection this evening on my way home:
