Let's talk about science academia (and aesthetics in general)
What are we used to associate with deep philosophy, beauty, aesthetics? Of course, the humanities and the arts. They are, in fact, the central subject of academic aesthetics and not for nothing.
It is these things that are directly related to the human "soul", the disinterested attraction to the high, this is what people call beautiful in its manifestation. It is in itself an aesthetic that almost everyone who has immersed himself unwittingly begins to feel.
Then what is my problem, and perhaps someone else's? The things that the dark academia romanticizes are extremely impractical and often irrational, you want to imitate them, but you find contradictions in your worldview. The dark Academia attracts romanticism and a certain detachment from reality, its danger. After all, art, poetry, philosophy are often thankless deeds, and not many of us are ready to really plunge into them, sacrificing the rest. (I'm not talking about reading and comprehensive education in general right now).
But now about the science academia. What I am personally ready to dive into is the scientific side of human knowledge. There everything is more pragmatic, aimed at a useful result and rational. Moreover, science often brings fruits that are useful in practice, which makes it more mundane.
Maybe this is my personal feeling, but I think it will find a response in some of you. It seems as if science and art are on different ends of the scales. Art is a sublime, chaotic and sensual beauty, science is a mundane and rational beginning, devoid of soaring aesthetics.
But I fundamentally don't like this concept. Utility and rationality-Do they make things less beautiful? I think there is beauty everywhere where there is high intelligence. Even what you don't do for the sake of pure beauty can be beautiful.
Logic, the desire for rationality, cognition; the globality of scientific laws, structure - all this I want to consider beautiful.
I think the main problem is that I am always striving to snatch beauty from the outside, to find an aesthetic that corresponds to me, adjust somewhere. Find an external criterion that will show me what exactly will make me and my life beautiful. But as a result, it turns out that
You need to create the aesthetics yourself.
After all, things seem beautiful only in the picture. Irl they acquire other qualities.
I want to make an aesthetic of what is happening in my life for real.
(And that's not only about science academia (which is not popular compared to dark academia). It's about all aesthetics in general - we feel the difference between what in beautiful "for real", and what our lives or interests look like.)
P.s. Nothing wrong with dark academia and it's fans (and I'm one of them).
