Hi I just had to share these tags because !!! They are so sweet, but also really accurate to what my stepdad is like-- like yes, you so succinctly interpreted the love in these joking messages. Suddenly a day in July of 1997 when he was a young cafe-working 26 year old becomes special, even though he wouldn't know it for almost 20 years. He really stepped up (pun-intended) as a dad, too. He and my mom started dating when I was eighteen, and since I was an adult, its not like he had any obligation to parent me. But he looked at me and my three younger siblings, (all traumatized and troubled and distrusting because of our biological father) and said "yep, these are my kids now". I remember him calling us that long before he and my mom were even married, striking up conversations with strangers, and if they asked him about kids, he'd laugh and say "I've got four!" He always seems so happy that he went from a family of one to a family of six, basically overnight.

When he proposed to my mom, he bought matching necklaces for us (and a watch for my brother), because he felt he was marrying into the family, not just my mom, and our blessing was really important to him. He's helped me move, helped me with car trouble, talked me down from panic attacks, bought me a laptop for college, drove across LA at 6 in the morning to drop off my hearing aid because I left it at my mom's house and he knew I didn't like going to work without it: just doing a bunch of nice things that I had never experienced from a father-figure before. I wish everyone who has a bad or absent parent would get a loving step-parent replacement!!

“Famous more as a cultural feature than as a natural one, the pace at which the River Mersey is recovering to a fishy wonderland has ecologists stunned.

Splitting The Beatles’ home city of Liverpool in two, a recent survey found 37 different species of fish, more than two-and-a-half-times as many as were found in the previous survey 20 years ago.

Five different species of sharks were also found, along with huge eels and sea scorpions. ‘Holiday species’ as one local fishermen called them, like turbot, smelt, and cod, have also been caught.

Scientists at the Mersey Rivers Trust, a public/private charity-driven partnership for nature in the area believe that these species are breeding in the 3 mile-wide estuary.

The Liverpool Docks—the largest enclosed dock system in the world, were described by Herman Melville as comparable to the Pyramids in size and construction. As a result, industrialization heavily polluted the river. In 2009 however it was announced that the river was “cleaner than at any time since the industrial revolution” and is “now considered one of the cleanest [rivers] in the UK.”

“Over the last 30 years, there’s been this tremendous regeneration, this renewal of the River Mersey that started slowly but is now picking up pace. I still think we’re right at the beginning of something special,” said Mike Duddy at the Mersey Rivers Trust, who spoke to the Wirral Globe about the restoration...

Humpback whales were recently seen in Liverpool Bay for the first time since 1938, while the Mersey itself has also welcomed back otters, salmon, octopus, porpoises, and seals.

The Trust is currently compiling a species list, and is holding a competition with local fishermen to see how many can be recorded. Duddy expects to raise the count of 37 fish species to 50 next year.”

I saw @kakoshihatake-str8rico‘s raws of Pearl’s interview and I couldn’t not translate it! Right on time for the global splatfest too! Sorry if I misesed any typos. ‘Couple notes:

*1. I have no idea what they’re gonna go for with Pearl’s official full name in English. I went with Pigmy on the spot following the trend in the Japanese version because that’s the species her design was based on and in the Japanese version they tend to make references to species— both Pearl’s and Marina’s names are such references. Since the English localisation sent a nod to those with Marina Iida in the Octo Expansion, I sort of went with the reverse path on that. Also, Pigmy reminds me of “pigment” and, ye know, colours and all…

*2. What she calls the rooms the interviewer keeps asking about is actually a part of Japanese homes where you put away the shoes at the entrance. Those are usually cupboards/shelves, but god how could I refer to an open space as a cupboard I’m??? So yeah.
