Which castes have curly hair as part of their Dammakhert-assigned phenotype, or is hair straightness not really controlled by the Dammakhert?
Only the Bronze and Soud. Lemuel has pretty wavy hair, and you could see Duane's curling in the back when it was longer. The Bronze tend to go pretty wavy too, though no one has really cool tight curls.

There's a common belief that Plats are favored by the gods among the Gefendur right? That they're effectively on their last life and going to their side after death? Do Gefendur have a clause against Self Slaughter like the Ssaelit do, or is it not a concern for one to commit suicide, either violently or otherwise? Cause if there isn't, it seems all too simple to convince a Plat, who will die in twenty years anyway, to speed along to the gods by means of explosion...

How close was Will with Lemuel? Was Lemuel a role model in the same way Duane was, or were they more like friends due to the smaller age gap?
It's a little weird. Will's dad developed a dad-crush on Lemuel pretty quickly after he joined the Lions, so Lemuel is strictly "Father's Friend," in Will's head. This only deepened when Duane died and Lemuel became Mikaila's dad and even more dad-coded.
There's not a huge age gap there, no, but the social chemistry is too weird for Will to think of Lemuel as a friend, and their positions in life too different to think of him as a role model exactly either. Lemuel is intimidating and tricky to figure out. Only Mikaila seems to understand him, and just laughs whenever Will suggests Captain Adelier is kinda bloody scary.
Speaking of the Council Army, I think Claggart might have been the closest non-Soud Ald to acknowledge how dangerous the Etalarche Curse actually is, even to the point of claiming he might have questioned the purpose of such a thing had he not been linked to the Dammakhert. This makes me wonder: Had he or any of the Adelier brothers switched roles that day, would he have prioritized killing Foi-Hellick or saving Will? Just curious where the Captain's moral compass would lead him in that scenario
Claggart still would be a Jet and still controlled by the curse, so he'd go for Foi-Hellick over Will in any situation. Will's only still alive today because the Adeliers were Soud, and had the available agency to pick him over the Etalarche.
Which I think speaks well for our blondes. No surprise Duane would pick the kid, but no one ever gives Lemuel credit for picking the kid too! If Lemuel had killed Roger that day, he'd have enjoyed a lifetime of celebrity and privilege; instead he went for a kid that PROBABLY was actively dying as he'd just been literally eaten by a monster. Really low odds of plucking him from the jaws of death, but they did it!
By gang standards would Sette's gang still be considered "owned" by Nary, or would they be rivals to the great Frummagems?
They fall under the Frummagem family, so Sette is the boss, but she has to answer to Big Boss Nary A'Care, and pay him jukrum. The Big Boss doesn't typically order the smaller gangs around as long as they're up to date on their jukrum, but if there was a proper turf war, the smaller gangs would be expected to show up and throw down for the family. And if Sette ever took down Nary - or simply was named his successor - upon his death, her gang would move with her into Nary's gang's lair, and her people would replace his in the pecking order there. One can imagine the drama this sometimes causes, so it's more common for the big guy to name a successor from among his own gang.
But Sette is broken off now into her little satellite operation, so we'll see how it goes :)

The Lions suck! Why do they have to suck?
It's the first chapter, still! Maybe they'll get better as the story goes! Maybe we can even get them to stop sexually assaulting people!

Come to think of it, isn't Sette's Gang sizeable enough to be vaguely considered an actual "gang"? If we count Boo, Uaid, Swarm and Jivi's pymaric pipe as legitimate members, then the group had* technically 9 members in it.
Of course! That's why Sette calls it a gang! It's her gang! IT'S A GANG.
This is probably dumb to ask, but do the Ssaelit mainly specialize in martial pymary, or do they also practice other forms of combat? On another note, how long have the Lions of Mercy been having difficulties training battlewrights? At first I thought this was an issue that started after Duane's death, but then I recalled that this was a problem that tormented the Lions as early as the Foi-Hellick Affair.
Pymary is difficult. Martial pymary is exquisitely difficult. What the Lions - and many Kasslynian military bodies - have always tried to do is make randoms into wrights. Outside of Cresce, there is no public education, so great minds are not being discovered, cultivated, and captured by institutions. Orders like the Lions instead tend to be full of sons from rich families who didn't want their boys slumming it in the Council Army. So they get what they get, and then try to make them into wizards.
You combine this with the fact that most Plats are Gefendur, and the Lions have always been in a losing position.
Duane was truly a special snowflake with his patron and his education. And then he didn't even die in the Army, what a miracle. And he was also a fantastic teacher!
You just don't get guys like him often enough. And so the Lions are notoriously mid at pymary, particularly any kind of pymaric work that requires expertise beyond lobbing the ground or fireballs at each other.

Why does Argenti Sr. hate Will’s arm? I’d think a martial guy like him would almost see it as a badge of honor “my son’s a veteran who did his part for Alderode!” Plus it being a visual reminder of the punishment for his wife’s dalliance might be useful. Or is there a perhaps a hint of guilt/embarrassment to there, like he realizes the optics of the situation behind the arm cast him in a super negative light?

I don't know if you can answer this question since it is admittedly pretty spoiler heavy, but do the Gefendur have evidence of their own regarding the legitimacy of their faith, similar to how the Ssaelit have their beliefs "confirmed" by the Northsongs book?
Of course. Ancient writings explain the origin of the world, the nature of the gods, and various experiences mortals have had with them through the millennia. And of course most Gefendur have personal experiences of their own: answered prayers, healing miracles, divine encounters in nature. Just look at the trees, Anon.

This is not meant to be an offense or anything, but I always found it funny how you describe Duane & Sette as "easy mode" protagonists compared to Tree & Mikaila, given that the former duo has a fascist zombie and a betailed hoodlum for main characters. That being said, what made you come to the conclusion that these two would function as the initial protagonists the comic better than everyone else? No spoilers asked, obviously.
Roleplay, mostly. I found that Duane and Sette played off each other so wonderfully in roleplay that they would be hysterical and pretty winning in a story :) This was back in the day before the older man/little girl dynamic was EVERYWHERE, but I still think they bring something unique to the table since ultimately they are best friends, not father/daughter. They are really much more like peers, with hugging benefits.
How come Will’s arm has no palm? I think that would drive me insane.
Common design for them. You can swap different gloves for different effects. Modular!
