Pokéflags #2: Johto
Design breakdown:
Like the Kanto flags, the background from this flag was colorpicked from the flag of the Nara Prefecture for the Kansai region, which Johto is based on.
The lozenge (diamond) shape is a very old design, dating back to the Neolithic and Paleolithic periods. This references Johto's reputation as a very traditional region.
The overall design is a reference to the myth of the Burned Tower. The orange represents Ho-Oh, while the three dots represent the resurrected Suicune, Entei, and Raikou. The gray color references the ash after the fire. (I know I already referenced Ho-Oh in the Kanto flags but it was too perfect, and mythology doesn't respect political borders.)
