the internet HAS been turned into a series of easily swallowable pills for quick consumption and standardization and I don't think it's 'boomery' to discuss how the internet no longer feels like a wild wild west and has been massively gentrified for quick access to anything you could ever want or need and that next hit of dopamine. there is a difference between 'social media bad' and 'our experiences online are increasingly manufactured by algorithms looking to make money from scraping metrics of data about who we are to either sell us stuff or sell who we are to people who will sell us stuff'

it’s kind of weird how we’re culturally not supposed to admit that we do things for money and/or attention. Like I’m not going to work because i’m a team player or because I care about the company mission, I’m going so I can pay rent and buy food. I’m not publishing my fanfic because I’m passionate about writing or because I only care about art in its purest form, I’m publishing it because I want attention. If I didn’t want attention, I’d leave it on my hard drive. Really, why are we supposed to pretend to have “better” motivations?
absolutely fascinated by this raw pixels on an emulator vs how the game was actually supposed to look on old tvs twitter
People say that old games dont look as good as they remember
Its because they legitimately dont.
The “fuzz” from CRT monitors was something that was definitely accounted for and taken advantage of back in the day when it came to video games! While this effect is noticeable in 3D games, it’s MUCH more visible when it comes to 2D sprites:
Just look how much more depth these simple sprites of Princess Peach and Bowser from Super Mario RPG seem to have when seen through the “dots” of a CRT TV screen!
Best Pixar short?

So, who else here struggled to pick up the “go away, you’re not wanted” social cue as a kid, which has made them so overly cautious as an adult that they end up having cool conversations with cool people but don’t want to be too friendly in case they’re missing the cue, and so end up making those cool people think that you don’t want to be friends with them?
Because, like, this is the Number One Thing that has fucked me up as an adult and I am so grateful to my friends who didn’t stop talking to me while I slowly figured out that, yes, they did actually want to be friends.
;-;
This is so relatable…
First day of uni I sat next to this guy. I anxiously talked AT him for a while and gave him my full name for Facebook and spent several days pondering how uncomfortable he must have felt, how weird he must have found me, how he probebly just wanted me to go away.
The next week in class I stood at the other end of the hall trying not to make eye contact as the lecture went in, thinking I didn’t want him to think “oh god I can’t be stuck again!”
Eventually he beckoned me over, looking quizzical, and we sat together in a few lectures, and then a few tutorials, and then at lunches.
8 years later and he is still one of my closest friends.
I have asked him about that day, and mentioned my worries and thought spirals. He said he was somewhat nervous to strike up a conversation with people. He said he thought I was chatty, and fun, and cool. He said he thought I had really long eyelashes.
Very rarely are people’s thoughts about us anywhere near as deep and dark as we expect. Mostly they are worrying about their own lives, how they look to us, and maybe what they will have for lunch.
Sure we might annoy people sometimes or come across as odd or intense, but for every time that happens there are at least 100 times we assume that happened, and the other person was just wondering if we were wearing mascara or if our lashes really were that long.
