i don't have a tone or location in mind, but short prompt: any members of the evil emporium, talking (or pointedly NOT talking, if youd prefer) about season 8?
It takes a few tries to catch Xisuma when he isn't busy. It doesn't help that Beef's been plenty busy too. Maps are hard work, and the number he needs for a full booster set? That won't wait for any man, let alone him! So, it takes a few tries to find him not busy. When he does, it is slightly cloudy out, about midday.
"Oh, hey Beef," says X. "What's up?"
It's an awkward thing to try to bring up. He's not sure how to phrase it, so he just stands there for a moment before finally saying: "So, I think we ought to talk. You know. About..."
He gestures with his hands like they're mandibles and watches X shut down in front of him.
"I don't know what you want me to say," X says, and he's curled up and defensive and, ohhh, Beef regrets bringing it up, but he doesn't like leaving things between people, and this is one of those times they've got to clear the air.
"I mean, we've just gotta talk, right? We can't just ignore it forever."
X is silent for a while. "I don't know what you want me to say," he says again. "I trusted him. I shouldn't have. I loved him. He hurt me. He hurt me. What else do you want me to say?"
It takes Beef a moment, before he says: "Just... I trusted him too. He hurt me too."
"...that's the crux of it, isn't it?"
They're both quiet for a while longer.
"We're going to have to talk about it," Beef says.
"I don't want to," X says.
"Alright," Beef says, if only to make X stop standing like that. "Alright. We'll wait a little longer. Alright."
X nods. Beef takes a deep breath, and he pulls out his well-worn beta version of his rulebook instead. It has been too long since he talked to Xisuma, and he won't waste it, he supposes.
